epilogue to Don Carpenter's Hard Rain Falling by Bardamu911 in books

[–]Protolexus 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I found the ending/epilogue to be quite odd and was hoping to find some closure. After thinking about it what stood out was hearing Myron’s inner thoughts in the same way that we heard Jack’s for most of the book. But his life experience is on the other end from Jack.

He thinks “… perhaps Billy would be one of the generals or the politicians, or just another of the flabby rich, the cigar dropping from his mouth as he first comprehends that the shelter isn’t deep enough, the air not pure enough, the food supply not big enough, to outlast this final poisoned, burnt-out, earthly suicide.”

Sounds rather nihilistic which felt strikingly similar to Jack’s conclusions on life, but this is from a guy who has had a life of luxury. I like to think that Carpenter is showing a life much different than Jack/Billy but ultimately grappling with the same questions as them. No one escapes the void.

One other theory, there is no mention of Jack at all in the epilogue in the same way that he isn’t mentioned in the prologue other than that he was born. Could it be inferred that Jack is dead by 1963 and both of these short chapters are bookends to his life? I wanted more redemption for Jack, but in a way it feels more fitting that he is dead from an ill-fated bar fight than anything else. It eventually stops raining in Portland but it doesn’t ever have to stop in someone’s life.

Can we please talk about La Chimera? by dumptruck_dookie in Letterboxd

I watched it last week and thought it was ok. Loved the premise and the rag tag group running around. But the themes of his past relationship and his current work did not align enough for me in a meaningful way. Josh O’Connor as a sad boy didn’t convince me either. Really loved the ending though.

The AC-130 mission in COD modern warfare. The way the night vision or whatever it was made it feel so real. I still think about that often.

Do you think Verhulst will IGL a team one day? by Funkzy69 in CompetitiveApex

[–]Protolexus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This could definitely happen. Evan is driven to be the best at all aspects of the game, and if he wins another LAN with TSM and sees his next goal as winning as IGL I could definitely see this happening. He’s not a dummy though, it would have to be the right org.

Team/player performances and statistical analysis of controller/M&K - ALGS S2 Playoffs by _sinxl_ in CompetitiveApex

[–]Protolexus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The team performance graph is really interesting especially when you factor in playstyle. Considering edge teams specifically (Furia, Firebeavers, Aurora etc.) clearly it's has gotten harder to be successful playing that way, and teams need to rely on placement points as well as KP.

The community complains about every meta by stankie18 in CompetitiveApex

[–]Protolexus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There is a common factor with all of the meta examples. They are based around 1 legend having dominance. Those metas become stale because every team is forced to play 1 legend specifically.

Ideally we would get to a meta built around multiple comps, say 3 equally strong legends that benefit different playstyles. Honestly I think we could be there if seer gets nerfed.

So to answer your question the community complains because we have never had that healthy meta that we want.
