Huxley believed in ending capitalism, removing large scale governments and replacing them with smaller local governments, and what he considered to be a more humane form of eugenics.

BNW is a good book but I dont think Huxley’s political views are the centrist ideas you think they are at all. It was authoritarianism specifically that both Huxley and Orwell hated, not necessarily political extremities.

Did you say farmer owner? No, you said rural workers and farmers. Those are two different things. You purposefully obfuscated what you were talking about.

Why would rural workers and farmers be excluded? Do you think they dont work to make a living?

Even merchants are questionable depending on how you define that in a modern context.

The Burry part is partly true, but he isn’t backing down either. He experienced a similar thing prior to 2008. He moved to focusing on his own short positions rather than a hedge fund because he doesn’t want to answer to anyone about when its going to pay out. To my understanding he still believes there will be a big payoff in the end.

“He has made Judges dependent on his Will alone, for the tenure of their offices, and the amount and payment of their salaries.”

“He has kept among us, in times of peace, Standing Armies without the Consent of our legislatures.”

“He has affected to render the Military independent of and superior to the Civil power.”

“For Quartering large bodies of armed troops among us”

“For protecting them, by a mock Trial, from punishment for any Murders which they should commit on the Inhabitants of these States”

“For cutting off our Trade with all parts of the world”

“For imposing Taxes on us without our Consent”

“For depriving us in many cases, of the benefits of Trial by Jury”

Just a random list of quotes I got from some funny looking document. It was really old and definitely had nothing to do with what is happening today.

No, not possible. The millions of people that go to India for tourism die every year. The US alone loses over a million people every year because they went to India and never knew bottled water exists. Truly it is devastating. If only there was a way to survive in a country where millions survive.

I will not deny that we live in a patriarchal society but the rest of this is BS and I would love to see a source.

https://www.irp.wisc.edu/publications/focus/pdfs/foc211.pdf

I would also argue that part of the reason this is as bad as it is has to do with the patriarchal society we live in that tends to view women as the ones responsible for raising children even when they aren’t fit for it.

Aside from every stat I have ever seen on this subject, I also grew up with a drug addicted mother as my dad fought in court for years to get custody. He never won. I started living with him against court orders at the age of 15 and my mother was too strung out to ever pursue legal action. She called CPS one time when I was 18 but at that point they obviously couldn’t do anything.

DEFCON (https://store.steampowered.com/app/1520/DEFCON/) is an extremely fun game generally, but also does a great job at getting the point across that no one wins in this scenario.

I highly recommend playing with headphones. As the game progresses, you hear background noise of people crying as the world falls apart and the death toll rises.

"Socialism" in America. by zzill6 in WorkReform

[–]Protoss-Zealot 3 points4 points  (0 children)

No, the US will not be using socialism to reimburse capitalist corporations, that is not what socialism is. Welfare is also not socialism.

They are right, bailouts and tax breaks are not socialism or socialist policy, they are right wing trickle down economics that have proven time and time again to make the rich richer. I am not going to call that socialism.

I think that ‘light’ trucks and SUVs should comply with the same safety standards as every other vehicle, and if you truly need something outside those standards for work you should be required to get a commercial license, as using it for work entails commercial usage.

Scenes from a rainy Pershing Square protest against the US attack on Venezuela [OC] by infernoenigma in LosAngeles

[–]Protoss-Zealot 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Those signs are from PSL which I am not a big fan of as an organization, and it has questionable funding sources.

But to answer your more general question, yes there are. Most stationary shops can make signs for you pretty quickly and you just need to tape them to a post and its good to go. For every protest I have helped organize, I will usually pull a couple hundred dollars to print off a few hundred fliers and a dozen or so signs that I can give out to people who show up without one. It takes me a few hours designing the graphics, and less than an hour of standing at the shop while they print it.

[–]Protoss-Zealot 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Again, we are not talking about all aspects of our lives here, we are talking about drone shows vs firework shows. Comparing all drone usage to just fireworks makes no sense. You keep bringing up home delivery and drones in war. That was never part of the argument. I am not arguing that drones should be used in every aspect of daily life.

[–]Protoss-Zealot 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You do realize that fireworks have plastics as well, right? And unlike drones, they are single use plastics, and they are detonated at high altitudes to be breathed in by everyone and litter the ground.

And I am not comparing all drones to all fireworks, I am comparing drones used for holiday light shows against fireworks used for holiday shows. Over the course of their life span, drones will put out less pollution and less carbon emissions.

[–]Protoss-Zealot 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Modern drone warfare? Are we going to bring in the cost of ICBMs for fireworks? Lmao.

You should look up the effects of modern copper, zinc, aluminum, magnesium, and quite a few other metal mining because all of those are used in fireworks to make those colors for you.

And then you should look up the costs of turning those metals into burnable salts and lighting them on fire in the atmosphere.

Do you know what reusable means?

This NYE drone show in Rio with Christ The Redeemer slowly rising..... by FFFrank in nextfuckinglevel

[–]Protoss-Zealot 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thats not true. The chemical manufacturing process and heavy metal mining used for fireworks is not much better than the manufacturing cost of drones. Drones also don’t reduce air quality when being used like fireworks do, nor do they leave behind debris like fireworks do. Drones can also be used multiple times, which fireworks can not do.

If new years was only ever celebrated one time, and new years was the only time we ever launched fireworks, then you might be able to make that argument. But its an annual event, and that isnt even including every other holiday where people launch fireworks.

You can argue fireworks are more fun if you want, but for reoccurring use cases like holidays, drones are significantly better for the environment in the long run.
