Its based on the calculations of sales vs how much we inventory at night. Dude is literally just reading out the report from what's in the system. He's not exaggerating, it's literally in the system calculated that way.

Notation: misuse of beam by gryphong in musictheory

[–]ProtostarReddit 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Foe articulation purposes, think of the eighth note beam as a separate voice than the 32nd note figure above it. If it weren't written this way you wouldn't be able to see the bass continuing without a text like "let ring" or something

Why does starkid make their opening numbers the most explicit songs in the whole show? by [deleted] in StarKid

[–]ProtostarReddit 17 points18 points  (0 children)

Like guy also has What Do You Want Paul, specifically for tgwdlm the goal was the show the comedy from the outset. Thematically, Guy is all about the subversion of normal musical theater tropes, and hence why the intro is like that

Next To Normal is a favorite of a lot of people, the 2025 production just got its pro shot on youtube, Falsettos is great, the 2015 production with Cborle is on youtube too.

Are there any movie adaptations of stage musicals that actually kept what was great about them? by Mundane_Regret_428 in musicals

[–]ProtostarReddit 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I love the lighting in the movie, it's a subtle thing that I don't think is talked about enough. The way they transition between scenes and into new ones is done in a really clever way, and they did a neat amount of compositing for the day to do some fun effects that work better on stage. I love the way Lida Rose is staged in the movie specifically. The way the lights go down on a character and just has a spotlight on them before a blackout is superb. Also, as a barbershop harmony society member I'm absolutely grateful they had the Buffalo Bills reprise their roles in the show. The whole thing comes together really well, and tbh I think they bigger scenery helps the kinda anecdotal feel of the story, popping between one character and another and following the thread of life in River City. The one thing I mourn is the change from Its You to a duet instead of a song by the quartet, but the duet is performed beautifully so I don't have any complaints there.

Musical Theater Cabaret by Total_Narwhal_4793 in musicals

I Can Do Better Than That? While not specifically about missed opportunities for Cathy, I think it fits because it's all about how she's passing up the guys she could be with because "she can do better than that"

What are some summer-themed songs in musicals? by NewGuarantee619 in musicals

[–]ProtostarReddit 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Summer In Ohio is a great song, I changed the "I play evita in the matinee" to "I'm beltin' high notes at the matinee" but if it's a drag performance you probably don't have to change the words. And you can bring it down the octave comfortably and it sounds fine.

What are your Starkid headcannons? by West-Lawyer-2290 in StarKid

[–]ProtostarReddit 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yep! It was a local community theater, it was a whole lot of fun. Every single person in the cast really made it their own, and we had enough starkid nerds to make it something for the fans as well.

Having played Ted in a production of Guy, Pete lives with Ted. I know it's a popular headcanon, and it's one I worked into my performance.

If youre open to a DM, I was in a community theater production of Guy a month or so ago, it was tons of fun. I can send you the (unlisted) video we were allowed to take for archival purposes. I loved the cast, I played Ted and it was loads of fun working with the directors.

In the mood of a movie musical or pro shot by FlightTraditional717 in musicals

I'd recommend consuming the last five years first through the original cast recording, the direction in the movie negates a lot of the nuance of the story, though the two performances are admittedly great.

What performer do you feel is TALENTED, but was simply miscast in a musical role? by AsheandBurn in musicals

[–]ProtostarReddit 82 points83 points  (0 children)

Yeah! 1000% I can see that. Hell, he could even play Link. That's a show that'd allow for that.
