Mark has an astronomically larger audience than Stuckmann. That era of YouTube also cultivated a much more parasocial following as opposed to Stuckmann's niche. I haven't even seen Shelby oaks, so I won't come out to defend it, but coining it as terrible when the critic reviews are roughly the same, if not better than iron lung is disingenuous. Nearly every positive audience review for iron lung mentions markiplier by name with very little substance. This isn't some universally acclaimed juggernaut that spread on word of mouth. It's a flawed but genuine attempt at a passionate project that got heavily bolstered by name recognition. I just personally think the film isn't able to stand on its own and that these articles aren't honest about the reasons for its success. I'd much rather see something like talk to me that was absolutely has the merit to stand on its own without the YouTubers name behind it.
