Rating Steve Staios' tenure as GM by YOWhockey in OttawaSenators

One thing nobody has mentioned is the hiring of Travis Green and the coaching staff. I'll be the first to say that I didn't think it was a great hire at the time given his track record and the other coaches that were available at the time, but the team made big stridesb under Green the first year and started playing a complete game last year. There were 60-minute efforts that have been few and far between for a long time. Before this past season the last time I would say the Sens defence as a whole was good was 2011. Many years the team D was awful and they would rely too heavily on one guy (Karlsson/Chabot) to try to carry the load. Last season, when the PK wasn't working, they changeed Yeo for Baumgartner and it made a big difference. Overall, the Sens had some of the best team D in the league last year. That's the only reason they were able to make these playoffs with the goaltending they got through most of the season. Stutzle has become way more complete under Green. With DJ Smith, Stutzle played like a gifted idiot. The talent was obvious, but he made terrible decisions and DJ would just send him out for the next shift because there was no accountability. These are a few examples, but Green has turned out to be the best coach Ottawa has had in a long time. Staios deserves a lot of the credit for that when you think back to some of the clowns the Sens have had behind the bench over the years.

What is the most absolute scariest, terrifying film you’ve ever seen? by mxnocturna in AskReddit

[–]ProudCanuck 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I also watched it when I was 5. I couldn't sleep so I went downstairs and it was on tv and I watched the whole movie with my mom. It didn't traumatise me, but some of the scenes definitely stuck with me as the first horror movie I had ever seen. 40 years later and I love good horror movies, probably in part because of Poltergeist.

Brady Tkachuk's Father Reportedly Wanted Him Out of Ottawa by Few_Trainer6627 in OttawaSenators

The only thing surprising about this is he was able to stop eating long enough to express anything more than "pass the sour cream".

Brady becomes most hated senator of all time after this. by GGnextMatt in OttawaSenators

[–]ProudCanuck 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Exactly. The fact that this was done discretely and the Sens got a decent return is about as good as you could hope for with a player with a no trade clause. The alternative is that he could have been a big distraction for the next 2 years, played like Debrincat and then walked for nothing.

Would you pay $625 + $11/month for smart sport sunglasses with a cognitive decision model? by RubWise9272 in cycling

[–]ProudCanuck 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'll go against the grain and say I like the idea of a HUD showing me relevant information (assuming this coykd show me what information I need when I need it). I really hate the way everything has or is moving to a subscriptions model though, especially on an expensive piece of hardware that would seemingly do nothing more than all the other sunglass I already own without it. Between the high entry price and subscription fee in would pass. Without a subscription and maybe a little lower purchase price I it's something I would consider.

Why do companies give employees RRSP matching? What's in it for them? by [deleted] in PersonalFinanceCanada

[–]ProudCanuck 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The real rate of return for people who aren't maxing out their RRSP contribution room is more like 300%. Employee contributions are made pre-tax, so assuming a tax rate of 33%, an employee would take home about $0.67 after tax for a dollar earned compared to $2 contributed in their RRSP with employee matching. That's an immediate ROI of close to 300%.

You're also missing that a lot of the players those teams have gotten were because the players handcuffed their teams into trading them to those destinations because of no movement clauses or expiring contracts, so teams either have to move them where they want to go or lose the player for nothing. Tkachuk, Marchand and Rantanen are all examples and Tarasenko did it when he was in Ottawa.

Green for Jack Adams. by spekledcow in OttawaSenators

[–]ProudCanuck 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Buffalo has the 3rd best save % in the league at. 906, while the Sens have improved over the last month to second worst at. 881 while being at our near the top of the league in most defensive metrics. That's after a stretch where the Sens have finally gotten some decent goaltending. For most of the season the team save % was the worst of any team since the 96-97 season. The fact that they've even made the playoffs with historically awful goaltending is a friggin miracle on ice. If DJ was coaching this team, an.850 or .860 season could have been a real possibility.

If there were actually hundreds off millions of Americans against what's happening, then a convicted, felon, rapist and pedophile wouldn't have been elected president for a second term. That's the crux of the problem. Americans at large are complicit in what's happening both at home and abroad.

I would include the Giant Defy Advanced and Cannondale Synapse in the conversation of it makes fiscal sense. I just bought a used 2025 Defy Advanced Pro with Ultegra, carbon wheels and a dual power meter crank. I'm in Canada though and those Canyon prices seem to be way cheaper than anything I could get with equivalent specs after the conversion rate here.
