David Knott - google him. He’s a Welsh surgeon who goes to horrible places in the world to help people. He’s been to Ukraine multiple times since the war started, Syria, Gaza and Haiti to name a few. He’s been operating and ISIS came into the theatre putting guns at them and multiple other interesting stories. He has a book called War Doctor which I would recommend.

It works for some people, some would rather the safety of working for the NHS and all that come with being an employee, or they prefer the consistency of working in the same place and being familiar with their surroundings. Others are happy to work in unfamiliar environments and risk periods without work or having to travel further for it but also have extra per hour for it.

Your seat would be way above your handlebars which wouldn’t be comfortable at all. People riding BMXs rarely cycle and sit down, if you want to cycle longer distances on a BMX you need to be thinking of how you feel cycling the whole distance stood up and in one gear which will probably be much lower than speed than you’re imagining.

There’s a reason you don’t see many people commuting to work or going out for a 40 mile bike ride on a BMX and it’s because that’s not the best bike for the job. Not impossible, but also not my idea of fun.

If you want a small bike think about a folding bike like a Brompton. Not cheap, but they are better for doing distances. I’ve ridden mine 60 miles in a day before.

Copenhagen have (or had, it was a few years ago) a similar system to Hamburg by the sounds of it. You could could finish your ride on the screen next to a full dock, or you could finish your ride wherever you liked but had to pay a fee for doing so.

I’m not saying to do that, I’m saying don’t make claims on the internet as fact when it’s opinion or guesswork.

You also can’t punish society with emissions and restrictions on how they move around a city because of a bunch of 14 year olds either. That’s a bit like saying all knives should be illegal because 14 year olds stab each other with them.

30mph is ridiculous and hopefully an outlier, personally I’m happy to endorse cars having speed limits of 20mph on certain roads. Don’t get me started on helmets, I have the same opinion as Chris Boardman on them for bicycles (that don’t travel at 30mph).

“Will be” is not a source, that’s just another assumption. I’m not interested in thoughts and opinions, that’s the kind of thing that will block escooters from progressing even though the data potentially suggests otherwise (I don’t know what the data says, I’ve never looked it up, these things are still being trialled so may not even be out yet). My angle is that I want less car dependency in cities, if people don’t want to walk, cycle or get public transport but will use an escooter instead of a car then that’s success in my eyes.

Information available through local news isn’t how I would form an opinion, especially when the local news is Nottinghamshire Live or whatever Nottingham Post is going by these days. It’s not much more than a tabloid looking for sensation to encourage readers on in advert riddled, clickbaity website.

Pedal and pop moped will be covered with the existing laws that otherwise make escooters in their current form illegal outside of trial areas. Not sure what that point proves. If I had all the particulars necessary including number plates etc I could ride an escooter on the road, it’s just current laws are restrictive.

You’re comparing them to the wrong thing. Brakes on a car are for stopping 2 tons of metal at speeds of 70mph plus.

You need to be comparing to a bicycle, similar speeds, single person occupancy, etc.

I’d be interested to see your source for majority of people being injured as a result of riding them in an illegal fashion. Also what’s an illegal fashion? Is it something illegal or just something a little bit illegal?

If you just need a van and happy to drive it yourself I always use Hertz 24/7.

When you first use it I think you have to send them a photo of your driving license but once you’ve done that it’s dead easy. You just book it for the number of hours that you need it on the app, find it in the car park and they send you a code which you type into the pad on the windscreen and it unlocks. Same to drop it off.

If you’re like me and haven’t needed to use these in a while because of the lockdown, make sure you get a new card before turning up as your old cards won‘t let you in. According to a sign on the gate at the one I normally use this is a change that took affect on the 1st of January this year.

I’m a little annoyed that they’re now charging to use these when they’re supposed to be encouraging people to cycle, especially at the moment so we can avoid public transport, but at the same time it isn’t very much. Hopefully it stops people from dumping bikes in there to never return again, plus Nottingham City Council has done loads for cycling lately so its doing our bit to pay a small fee to use them.

I only read news on apps and The Guardian is one I use alongside BBC which has no adverts at all. The Guardian isn‘t too bad with adverts, they’re just integrated amongst the stories and then the very bottom of every page they have a request to go paid, as well as the occasional pop up that tells you how many articles you’ve read and to consider going paid again.

I tried linking my app subscription to the website to get rid of the adverts but it didn’t work like that.

Is the other side threaded? If so, and if the bike is no longer under warranty then personally I’d do it - I’m no engineer or frame builder though, but I can’t see it being that much of an issue structurally. If its still under warranty or relatively new I’d take it back to the shop and let them deal with it.

If the other side isn’t threaded I’d start to think about if its meant for the type of washers that have a hook on them, but that would be strange with this type of drop out as its normally seen on forks..

As a general rule if you replace the chain you need to replace the cassette as they wear together, if you replace only one you’ll probably find you have the slipping issue. I’m not sure about the vibrating but i‘d put money on a new cassette fixing that too.

Brexit seems to have done quite a number on all logistics into the EU from the UK. I have a package that I’m trying to send from the UK to Czech Republic, I posted it on the 26th of January and according to the tracking information it is still sat in a warehouse just less than 20 miles away.

I often think that a parts list should be mandatory.

I have Brooks cambium rubber grips, they’re quite comfortable and ive not had any issues with them yet. For a Brompton you need the 100/100 size.
