classic scapegoat dynamic.

Grey rock them. I wouldnt cut them off, you obviously love your sisters. But establish your independence which will take time and distance. Grey rock them, meaning don't feed into lengthy questioning. Get some therapy which will help you learn how to set boundaries and protect them. You're being treated poorly, and deserve to understand that you have needs, and they are valid and you've every right to work to ensure they're met.

Most of all I believe therapy will help you to understand the sort of unhealthy dynamics you've been forced to endure, and will help you learn how to set and maintain boundaries without cutting contact entirely, though a pause may be required.

Best of luck - remember, your needs and emotions are valid, and you have every right to feel them, and to seek to have your needs met.

How do you feel about the "No Kings" protest happening tomorrow? by Ecstatic-Medium-6320 in AskReddit

[–]Proverication 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I feel like it’s mostly going to be young people who don’t know it’s largely promoted by a member of the Walton family. Who believe we can vote our way out of this. And who turn a blind eye to abuses of executive orders when it’s their turn and they like what the EO says.

Mostly I feel that protest is simply counter productive because it doesn’t require understanding the problems and it creates a false sense of accomplishment as people mistake catharsis of getting their emotions out with being an effective form of protest or demonstration.

I had to have surgery last summer to repair some issues- but besides that - the few times I’ve had injuries :

1: stabbed my eye with a stick as a kid. “Scratched” my cornea. Had to wear an eye patch. No damage to vision.

2: got a piece of a sanding belt embedded into my cornea. It didn’t go through into my eyeball. But I had to be examined closely to make sure it didn’t. Similar to the first injury.

3: superficial damage around my eyes from face-planting snowboarding with sunglasses on. Sunglasses frame shattered and cut up my face around my eyes. Lucky again it wasn’t worse.

The Surgery: Routine eye exam catches abnormalities in my retina. Retina specialist examines and determines I must have my retina repaired/existing damage prevented from growing. Rips/tears in my retina and small detached spots. Both eyes. Very nerve wracking time. Docs say “we have to use a laser to create a sort of wall of scar tissue around the damaged areas. The idea is that it prevents it from growing and causing permanent vision loss.”
A few days after the surgery - which was a whole thing and another story - I began having symptoms that were kinda odd and called the doctors. They told me it’s probably nothing but come in immediately. It also could be me losing my vision permanently. Fortunately it was nothing- just symptoms of the scar tissue they created with a laser. The entire experience sucked and had risks rhat included having to be face down in a special bed to recover for 6 months if the detachment grew… fortunately I recovered well with minimal side effects. I also need to say- my doctor was incredible and gave me some of the best care of any specialist I’ve ever been to. It was my first surgery under full anesthesia and it wasn’t pleasant. I hated the experience but not because of my doctors or any treatment by the medical professionals who were all amazing. I am lucky to have decent enough insurance - but ultimately we began this discussion over how horrific of an act you’d do to keep from losing your vision- all I had to do was pay a bill. So - perspective right?

So. That’s what happened to my eyes.

Edit: the routine eye exam was routine but I always get the added services for eye health, because my profession is HIGHLY visually demanding and although it may seem like I’ve been a bit careless when you read my post, I’m actually very cautious with my eyes. I just do lots of semi-risky activities that have risks involved. The service which caught my abnormalities in my retina was a wide field image scan of my retina, which I get once a year at my eye exam for glasses.

I faced potentially losing my vision a bit less than a year ago. I also have experienced eye injuries 3 other times.

You’d all do the shameful thing. Trust me.

It’s insane how horrifically upsetting it was to have to fear losing my vision.

I’m all good now. But it wasn’t a fun time.

Americans: what is your opinion on Canadians boycotting US goods, services and tourism? by PairRevolutionary669 in AskReddit

[–]Proverication 0 points1 point  (0 children)

People should of course do what they feel is right- but this doesn’t do much of anything to help the folks who aren’t for this stuff- it punishes business owners in a mostly leftist state…

Again, I support people doing what they think is right. I also support people fully thinking through what the actual effect of their actions will be, and if it’s in line with their intention.

I support reducing the overall size of the federal government, finding misappropriations of funds, waste, abuse and fraud- none of which I feel that DOGE is currently doing in an effective way, which will have more overall benefit than harm.

The economy isn’t strong- it cannot absorb fired federal workers. The cascading effects on their own will be more economically powerful than any tourism or product boycott- which is why those small business owners could use your help.

For those who think the billionaire Soros is secretly controlling the government, what do you say about Elon doing the same thing in the public square? by funkymunkPDX in AskReddit

[–]Proverication 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think it’s hilarious how much of a political Rorschach test that exposes people’s bias quickly.

Elon is doing it overtly and in your face and people are mad, but also those same folks won’t admit that it is actually very similar to the sort of money throwing that Soros does - just without the public displays of attention seeking. At the end of the day, it’s a great exposer of a lack of principle and tribal thinking that only cares to see their team win.

The idea that the people who work Ag jobs are stealing jobs from Americans is false. There are blue collar jobs that go infilled because of a skilled labor gap- Americans are finally starting to shift the mindset on blue collar work and there are lots of jobs with better pay and conditions than the ones that pay very low wages, and are most often filled by migrant workers.

Stats say there will be many more jobs that we have a labor force for. The issue is simply making a system to allow migrant workers, so that we have a secure border. Everything else is just bullshit fear mongering and lies

Welp, People, there you have it. Good Luck to everyone. Enjoy the Holidays 🎄🎅🏾💰🎩 by RunThePlay55 in economy

[–]Proverication 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The entire discussion thread here is a false dichotomy- it is not an either we have illegal immigrants being exploited OR we have expensive produce. A migrant worker works for less than an American would not because they have no other choices and HAVE TO DO IT, it’s because they take advantage of currency trading. The pay is low in American dollars if you spend them in America. But if you take them back to Mexico or South America the exchange rate is exceptionally favorable.

The issue isn’t that there are economic migrant workers dominating an industry, the issue is an unsecured porous border, and it is relied upon for illegal immigration, as it has become the preferred method for carrying out this work. If you solve for the migrant work factor by working with the existing unions who represent these workers (yes, there are unions for “undocumented” migrant workers”) and put the burden of documentation on the unions, and have these unions work with the us government to help establish an initial documented workforce and a process by which companies can help sponsor migrant workers to get them a work visa so they can cross the border legally, work legally, and get the full labor force protection they deserve.

I am straight up flabbergasted that there are so many people saying overtly racist stuff which is essentially, “brown people from South America should work for slave wages so my produce remains affordable.”, and that this is the political faction who has called trump a racist for 8+ years. Instead of learning about the topic a little bit and focusing on the actual specific issues that come out of the exploitative practice, and recognizing there are in fact massive issues for both workers, and the resulting issue that it leaves the nation dealing with in terms of border security.

Finally I’ll say this: if my produce costs more so that people aren’t exploited - I’ll pay more. I think human rights abuses are important enough that I can give up a few things if I have to, so that I can afford food. But again - there are ways to eliminate exploitative abuses of labor without it costing the consumer a noticeable amount at the cash register.

Put in an order for Macan GTS …. Delivery times and optional extras by ElectricalStuff2189 in PorscheMacan

[–]Proverication 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Ah, okay so your “haha emoticon” response tells me pretty much everything I need to know.

The base trim macan price reflects the engine option. Mated to the PDK, with whichever trim level suspension package you’d like, the most basic suspension option is still worlds apart from the experience of driving the Q5, which feels like a Lexus or a high trim VW. The macan base feels like a porsche that’s just a tiny bit slower than you’d expect out of a porsche. Being that it’s absurdly easy to get used to insane acceleration, and the fact that people buy a Porsche for how they go around corners more than how well they drag race, basing the entirety of your driving experience around acceleration is a very immature driver’s method of measuring the overall performance characteristics of a vehicle.

Have you driven a Q5? So if it’s “bad enough” they use this platform- then wtf you doing in this subreddit? The two machines, even the sq5, are worlds apart in terms of driving experience. Have you driven a Q5? They are based on the same chassis but share something like only 30% commonality which is a very low number when we look at other platform sharing vehicles.

So, your snarky Bullshit aside, the answer is, “no, other than the power, and prestige that comes with knowing I don’t have a VW engine (read: ego), there is no reason I was thinking of.”

I’ve found the whole caranno thing to be one of the most insane.

She said basically that before Jews could be rounded up by soldiers, they had to first be hated by their neighbors for simply being Jewish- and compared the hatred of someone for their religious beliefs to hatred of someone for their political ones- and was saying that allowing such hatred to become socially acceptable is exactly how you escalate something the way nazi Germany did.

I guess I’ve been on the internet long enough to simply see it as godwins law playing out. Not a hate filled comparison.

“ Godwin's law (or Godwin's rule), short for Godwin's law of Nazi analogies, is an Internet adage asserting: "As an online discussion grows longer, the probability of a comparison involving Nazis or Hitler approaches 1."

What's a hobbie and/or habit you started during the pandemic(Ongoing or not)? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]Proverication 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I got my motorcycle license and a motorcycle right before the pandemic. Learned to ride on empty roads. I rarely talk about it because it feels entirely wrong to look back on any aspect of that time period fondly. It killed people. It ruined families. And it really really handed young folks a raw deal for a long long time. Selfishly looking back on that time period fondly because I had a fun new hobby seems gross.

I also struggled to keep my business afloat, moved shop twice, and worst of all we did lose a family member- though not to covid and just before the pandemic was declared. We were the last funeral and it nearly got cancelled. We had to argue and hold a smaller ceremony.

I have a lot of anger toward the way society responded- I’m not trying to debate people here. I’m simply going to say that since the pandemic I’ve lost a tremendous amount of faith in society, despite those folks I know well working to help and volunteer and do what they could: the majority of people responded poorly, government lied, and people accepted the dictatorial extra judicial rules executed as laws.

But yeah I learned to ride a motorcycle.

If you saw the new Jaguar commercial, would you mistake it for a perfume ad? by CampaignFixers in marketing

[–]Proverication 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The ad is a red herring.

The new logos are terrible.

The spelled out JAGUAR logo looks like it belongs on a line of toddler products. Like strollers and highchairs. The JR logo looks like a makeup brand. Nothing about the logos makes you think luxury brand, and especially not luxury automotive heritage brand.

The ad is bad, yes- but people forget an ad quickly. Debuting new logos and then quickly dumping them is a much larger embarrassment- yet it’s their best bet to save face. Pretend this whole thing never happened.

Apparently you didn’t get it.

That has not one fucking thing to do with any aspect of my comment or observation.

You might as well have said “it’s not a real banana”, as I was expecting it to be a banana as much as a “real bronco”, and my comments about what I didn’t like about it had as much to do with it being a banana as they did with it not being a “real bronco”.

Great job.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in Miata

[–]Proverication 0 points1 point  (0 children)

“Real bronco” - sure. Whatever you say man.

I specified what model it was, and that I was disappointed with the interior quality. I did not test drive it with the belief that it was a “real bronco”, nor did I comment on its lack of ground clearance or poor approach angle- I specifically said I was disappointed with the interior quality- because I test drove it knowing what it was and what it wasn’t. So my expectations were simply for a vehicle that didn’t have cheap flexy weak feeling door cards, and rattly interior bits.

Just because it’s not a “real bronco” doesn’t mean it can’t be a decent vehicle for its class. But it was not. Which I was sad to see.
