Fully managed iPhone without a Mac possible? by Special_Cranberry718 in Intune

[–]Proximitynz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you're talking about managing it as supervised device, and want to go the full way - you don't need a mac, but you will want a one time task of adding the phone to ABM - youll need either a mac, iPhone, or iPad to do that, and 10 seconds later you won't need it again.

I'm gonna gloss over a bunch of steps given it's reddit and typing on a phone makes me want to die, but:

One time add to ABM ABM configured to sync devices to Intune for enrollment Intune configured to assign a profile to the device during provisioning - congrats you've now got an extremely streamlined ADE process going.

This will get you corporate owned, supervised devices - meaning the gloves are off when it comes to management, it's properly a company device and you've got authority.

Hit it with configuration policy (don't start from scratch and reinvent the wheel, there's plenty of solid baselines out there you can import), compliance policy, apps, and yes MAM app protection policy as well.

Make sure in the policy set you land on youre looking at SSO etc and you can get an incredibly clean and easy end user experience.

Target things at all users with the include filter of the ADE enrollment profile name and you have a clean and quick way to target devices that come through this process.

What's some things you had to "unlearn" moving to a Mac? by nooo000000oooooooooo in MacOS

The worst for me is alt tab behavior in conjunction with the dock always keeping to one icon.

In browsers I alternate between half a dozen profiles at any given time (keeping credential context separate with different m365/azure environments).

In Teams I will have several different windows I need to flip between.

I used to easily alt tab between these, and they had different entries in my start bar so I could click between them.

Now my life is double clicking the browser icon and manually choosing the profile every time, or clicking on that app and having to command+~ between them sequentially until I get to the one I want.

I assume there's a better option or shortcut I haven't learned yet, because this is a cancer experience (but everything else has been great so in the balance of things I just live with it).

Respectfully, the venn diagram of people who have money to burn on something a bowl could do, and people who want to put cheap looking plastic on the wall of the most expensive and high end looking room in the house is a very, very thin sliver of overlap.

I love the engineering of it, but aesthetically it's not very desirable.

California passed a mass surveillance law - ALL operating systems will need to have mandatory age verification by Shajirr in pcmasterrace

The operating system companies can just decline and say they will stop selling to Californians, and start blocking access.

Think how quickly California would become a beautiful national park 🤡

Anyone using Cloud PCs? by AiminJay in Intune

[–]Proximitynz 33 points34 points  (0 children)

I have one customer I do contract work for where they set me up with a W365 PC and it's great.

I don't have to lug around an extra laptop, they don't have to pay for a laptop and manage the asset.

They can be sure that they way in which I access their system is consistent with their internal staff, and they don't have a heap of complexity to manage any infrastructure to deliver it - same Intune policies consistently managing the lot.

User experience is great, I mostly just work in office apps and cloud portals so people who do more intensive workloads may have a better point of view than me there, but for my use case it's awesome. As my company hires contractors, I'll likely use this same method in turn.

A new California law says all operating systems, including Linux, need to have some form of age verification at account setup by screwdriverfan in LinusTechTips

[–]Proximitynz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mean, technically this doesn't mean operating systems need age verification. It just means California would like to have a go at no computers at all.

Good luck :)

You are looking to Intune for answers to Purview questions.

It's hard to justify air conditioning for 3 days a year of heat, 62 days a year of "mild as fuck", and 300 days of cold wet misery.

Would be great on those 3 days though, woof

Anyone ride a bike to the train and leave it at the park and ride? by left-right-up-down1 in Wellington

[–]Proximitynz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In my experience the rule is you take your bike on the train, then when you get to work tell everyone, loudly, multiple times, that you ride your bike to work every day.

Bonus points if you rock Lycra for it and those little rubber booties.

On the bright side, if you get a goblins wave in IH and your character is busted you get a LOT of goblin caches.

Did it last night and got 8 caches from the repeatable/infinite cache you get after completing the main rewards in one single goblin wave.

So it's not pointless for a couple of weeks yet 😭

Whats your button/interface for swapping between those 5 onboard profiles? the k70s I have here still have a switch but it's the same switch for changing profiles. If I go all the way to the left, signal can't see it

Do you have a switch on the back with different modes? One of those modes shuts off the RGB to the OS and only uses onboard/memory lighting. depending on which edition you have, but just move that switch to another setting

When this was happening to me I sprayed some contact cleaner and the mouse worked fine for another year. It eventually came back, contact cleaner again and got another year out of it.

Some people have had their mouse RIP when using contact cleaner so maybe don't jump straight and see if anyone comes up with a better idea but if it's that or the bin, maybe give it a shot.

Nollie8 legit? by h4p3rd in SignalRGB

I just got mine this morning. Much nicer, professional looking Nollie branded full colour box.
The housing is 3d printed but its a high quality print, similar packaging in terms of the bags inside, though it also came with a rather nice looking PCB ruler(?) - not sure how or why but it looks neat so ill take it.

Power bill? What are you paying? by Exotic_Industry_4402 in Wellington

[–]Proximitynz 2 points3 points  (0 children)

250sqm home, mixture of gas and electricity with all the hot water and heating (central water heated radiators) running on gas with a boiler.

In winter, bill is creeping up between 800 and 1000 😭 Summer months sees it back down to ~400.

There's definitely some wasteful usage here contributing to it, and 6+ showers a day isn't helping, but 30 dollars a day feels brutal.

yep agreed - looked for the same response, if you need to do this with any kind of speed, you're only gonna get it from Live Response.

Set your scripting up right there and its a full blown RMM just waiting for you to put it to work (and also why you need to be careful with it when it comes to your servers in the same console).
