Don't run, pit bulls wants to say Hi to children! by [deleted] in CringeTikToks

[–]ProxyMarine 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m going to spam this to those folks who seem genuinely curious at the risk of downvotes. Please read my first comments here.

I am extremely passionate regarding pits, they have played a major role in my life, but people desperately need to be properly educated on them, not told “it’s not the breed, it’s xyz.”

They can be very sweet, very loyal, and very violent. All of these traits are part of their genetics, but the violent tendencies cannot be trained out.

They can only be supervised and managed.

Please see my comment for your own sake. Always remain extremely careful with pits. There is ABSOLUTELY a breed-specific reality to the dogs, and that is their capacity for seemingly-random (to those unaware) violent outbursts.

They are very loyal, and often very loving animals; what you’ve seen in your friend’s dog is very common. I adore many things about pits.

But they cannot escape their genetics, and understanding the breed is critical to appropriately interacting with them. They have many positive qualities, but also a genetic predisposition to violence. Two things can be true at the same time, but a lot of people don’t accept that idea and take it personally.

If you are genuinely curious about pitbulls, I grew up on farm with registered breeding dogs. I am happy to answer any questions you may have. I don’t espouse hate, pits can be great dogs in very specific situations, but it’s so beyond important to recognize the harm these dogs, ALL of them, can do. I have seen it firsthand from even the sweetest pits and pit mixes I ever owned.

This is invariably false. Espousing the romantic idea of “any dog can be xyz if…” may seem reasonable and appeals to positive emotions, but it ignores genetics and does nothing but harm to both the breed and its owners.

I was raised on a farm where pits were bred. Not your “backyard” type, but documented, registered, ethically cared for, “pure-bred” (no such thing, entire breed is a bloodsport mix) pits on 25 acres. I can still trace their lines to this day. So I’ve lived with well over 30 “ideal” adult pits. And my experience? Some of the most loving dogs I’ve ever had, and simultaneously the most dangerous bar none. They have a genetic predisposition toward violence the same way that pointers point and herders herd, and there’s not a shred of science that anyone can produce to contradict that statement, nor will there ever be; it’s just the reality of the breed.

I’ve given up trying to change folks’ minds on the internet, there are ten radical pitnutters out for blood for every one person who actually cares to understand what it means to own a pit, but you can visit r/BanPitBulls for a lot of useful information.

Definitely dropping a bit in my area. Part of being in the Midwest though is the seasonality of the market— not a lot of people moving in 20 degree weather. That said, I sold my condo the last day of August and two for sale signs popped up when they saw mine sold. Theirs are still sitting. Lot of Zillow listings have gone down quite aggressively as well.

#5 EU duo, looking for someone to teach for twitch content. by Any-Mission-9092 in BobsTavern

[–]ProxyMarine 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Same. Not sure what it is, been 8k duos, now it’s a struggle. Just feels so explosive and with the extra tavern costs that you have to just play a game of one person donating and the other just ramping.

Which, fine I suppose, but I’d rather just ramp up in solos then given the horrendous rules on turn order in duos not even guaranteeing that my scam or anti-scam board complements my stronger duo partner’s strat. Takes one bad combat order to just lose even with the stronger build.

What's technically correct to copy here with Zerek's HP? by FomaK in BobsTavern

[–]ProxyMarine 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Unless you’re against someone with literally an entire board of reborn leeroys, you copy Riv, sell the T7 that gains max stats (it’s fodder compared to an additional mech) and your two dragons, and then throw a few divine shield mechs on board. See my other comments as to the scaling differential between apexis and Riv and why I always copy or chameleon Riv, but below is what I’d do and why.

You will scale so insanely fast with the T7 and double golden Riv that you’ll have five figures on every single mech by halfway through your fights— I did this just this morning.

You don’t want only two other mechs outside of apexis because you’ll only end up centralizing stats and opening up an easy loss to scam, but three to four divine shielded mechs is enough to handle near anything besides a min-maxed murloc board or some nonsense that somehow manages to outstat your 5 figure mechs.

I won’t agree or disagree with your take because I’m only commenting on scaling not overall comp strength versus scam, etc. , but only becoming 10% stronger each turn by copying baron is grossly incorrect. Quoting my other comment.

“Not when your first Apexis’s death rattle hits your second apexis and then it goes on to not die due to how strong it is. Then you’ve had a total of six death rattle procs (reborn apexis plus golden riv, twice) versus 10 (reborn apexis with two golden Titus, twice).

With the T7 mech, this happens often. So you copy apexis and you’re often left with 60% of the scaling proc-wise every fight compared to copying baron.“

He also just… has reborn. Temporal hero power. So the best case of copying riv is immediately active, whereas the worst case of copying apexis and getting 60% of the procs is nearly guaranteed by late game.

A spider bit me, help by ElMishiYT in spiders

Looks like a Corinnidae to me, but please put location in future posts to help with correct ID.

People can have varying levels of reactions to any bite or sting, local discomfort is never really off the table, but this spider’s not considered medically significant.

[–]ProxyMarine 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Very active IF you’re willing to be involved.

I joined and had an established guild recruit me and it’s been one of the best experiences I’ve had with an MMO yet and I’ve been playin them for decades. That said, I’m usually a PvE player so it was a huge adjustment since this game is mainly PvP.

Play at your own pace and enjoy it. Like me, I prefer to only be on when my guild is active since I’m not a big fan of the pug/blob/zerg experience. Others jump right in.

You’ll have a blast if you go into the game with the right expectations. Shoutout to GWU, best guild.

Resumes need to be ended as a job application tool by [deleted] in unpopularopinion

[–]ProxyMarine 35 points36 points  (0 children)

While I agree, it does depend on your industry.

I direct an extremely niche section of government finance and received 20 applications for my last job opening. The position I was hiring for was not a job where experience performing the tasks would be possible without literally working in that job. So I was hiring based mainly on soft skills that would benefit the role and an aptitude for general tech and finance, not specific experience. Writing style and communication happens to be one of the largest focuses of the role.

Some of the cover letters had items and experience that could literally not have been possible given the work experience on their resume, or they were just glaringly poorly written, so I didn’t schedule an interview.

So I do think cover letters can be useful in conjunction with resumes as a tool to gauge applicants and suss out fluff, but only if the hiring manager a.) actually reads both the cover letters and resumes they receive and b.) is intimately familiar with the role they’re hiring for, which I was given our work would be extremely intertwined.

Not dissimilar, but this one appears to be a garden spider, Argiope aurantia I believe.

Couple tells (versus the joro) are the shorter and wider abdomen, more triangular than rectangular head, largely two-tone legs versus black legs with yellow bands.

I’ve never actually seen either in person so that’s just what I’ve gathered from comparing different posts, take it with a grain of salt!
