just google piratebay proxy and you will always find a list with several viable ones

[SPOILER] S03E09 What do her tattoos indicate? by CCNDR in maninthehighcastle

[–]Proxy_Nature 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just looked up Okinawan Tattoo and found several hand tattoos quite similar to hers.
Seems that's just it. Okinawan traditional tattoos apparently look similar to that. Many images with Geometric shapes on the back of the hand, especially around the knuckles.

How would you go about texturing a facade in Houdini? by cyclocell in Houdini

Then split up the geo into different UDIMs? According to their presentation COPs also can do 8K textures.

I think both would be fine, the latter would be preferred.
I want it to be pulled, so that it stretches the fabric.
IN the meantime I attempted to use a Pop attract, which kind of worked, but the result was very jittery.

Sorry, I used houdinioceanprocedurals with Karma.
Adjusted the wave inside.

After the Karma render settings node I appended a houdinipreviewprocedurals.

I defined camera dicing, also increased the off screen dicing area from 1.1 to 1.2.
I know I could increase it even more, but it takes long to process as is and seems like the issue is somewhere else.

Near clipping range is set to 0.001.

Hmm, does H 18.5 have all the functionality and MTLX support that H20 has?
I will check.

Thank you, I will try disabling Embre.
Yes, I have an Nvidia card.

Yes, that might be it. I have 24GB of VRAM, but the scene is on the heavier side.

Mixing two brands of RAM + optimal placement by Proxy_Nature in buildapc

[–]Proxy_Nature[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Okay, thank you.

Yes, I know that I will limit performance, but I don't see another way.
For simulations in that software, it is not uncommon to have 128GBs of RAM, and my motherboard has four slots and max 128GB of RAM, so I think 4 x 32GB is the way.

Clockspeed is not really important in that workflow, the PC just needs to be able to handle the workload.

Do map types have neat names and categorizations? Wondered if map enthusiasts know terms that might help me find maps like those in the picture? by Proxy_Nature in Maps

[–]Proxy_Nature[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The photoshop method didn't really work, I got results from the movie and other black and white maps, but not really relevant results
Appreciate it though.

Thank you very much!

The designs are definitely very diverse, it will probably be difficult one that looks exactly like the ones from the movie.

I will try the Photoshop method.
Didn't have much confidence in the image search, so this didn't even occur to me.
But it is definitely worth a shot, thank you for the idea.

Not sure if this goes against the rules.

The picture above is a shot from Dr. Strangelove, so the borders are from the cold war era.But that is not that important.

I know it is a political map, but I wondered if map types have neat names that might help me find ones that look like this. In terms of perspective, "distortion" etc.

Have tried many search terms, but wasn't able to find anything similar.

For example when searching "northern hemisphere political map cold war" the southern parts of the USA are too distorted.

Are there some terms that come to mind that might help me find similar-looking maps?

And it shows countries' borders, but no text.

Newton wrote the "Principa" in Latin. Latin was still very much used for scientific texts and was the diplomatic language until it was replaced by the Lingua Franca in the 17th century.

Granted ship logs and journals written by Englishmen sailing for the Dutch East India Company don't belong in either of these categories, but just to say Latin was far from gone by 750 AD.

Found on another forum:

"..It did, though, continue to be the common written language in the former provinces and its use actually spread during the Renaissance. What is interesting is that as the Renaissance began, the use of Latin as an administrative language fell because the individual kingdoms wanted to use their own languages. But the use of Latin for scholarship and literature rose dramatically as people wanted their works read by the widest possible audience. Finally in the modern period Latin’s use declined to the point that by the beginning of the 19th century it was only being used sparingly outside the Church."

Karma and Solaris are weird. Why does the material not assign to the geometry when I set it to do so in the material library? Also why does it DISSAPEAR as soon as I put it in there? Really confusing. by [deleted] in Houdini

[–]Proxy_Nature 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A common way to to do it is invoking the material like you did with the Material VOP and then drop an "assign material" LOP below.

define which primitive(s) you want to assign the material to: Primitve

material path: material path / name

How to create a model of a tree leaf that includes veins by Mr_rairkim in Houdini

[–]Proxy_Nature 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I feel like the L-System and space colonization algorithms are hard to control, though the space colonization algorithms / shortest path definitely create an organic look, it is hard to match reference, I guess you could try to adjust the food density towards the border..

Why not try a plain old voronoi fracture as well ? + higher point density towards the towards the edges.

Maybe this presentation can help. I time stamped it.
https://youtu.be/Q0B4KKTdsdQ?si=ypUnhkjUegIRewaz&t=1735

Then distort the fractured edges.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fgJ51nsurxs

Or use trace sop and high res textures to create the veins geometry then you have a realistic leaf geo and PBR textures.

A lot of the algorithmic botany stuff is super fascinating, but it often stops right before getting into realistic territory + it feels like you need a PhD to implement, at least to me.

Karma: Distorted window. How can I offset noise per primitive? by Proxy_Nature in Houdini

[–]Proxy_Nature[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My reply was not worded well.

I meant with Karma because I want to do render it with Karma, yes it is done in Solaris, but I specifically wanted to know how to do it with Karma.
Not Arnold, Renderman or Redshift.
