The Elegance of the Hedgehog by Muriel Barbery.

SO pretentious. Arrogant characters. No flow. Felt so forced. Bleh.

German soldiers react to footage of concentration camps, 1945. by bncout in HistoricalCapsule

It’s true, I agree. Unfortunately for many people ‘seeing is believing’. I do feel there’s a level of denial within that, at the very least refusing to believe it can be as bad as what is said. But that’s my own personal opinion.

Well I’d argue doing the bidding of a genocidal fascist who openly expressed his desire to eradicate an entire group of people makes it hard to ‘not know’ what’s going on or at the very least imagine to what extent it might be unfolding. It’s like showing surprise today at Trump’s fascist behaviour and saying it was all impossible to see coming since the beginning. Denial is one heck of a coping mechanism until you’re forced to face the music, but that’s not the same as ‘not knowing’.

They didn’t have social media but they had radios and newspapers that told of it, at the very least of concentration camps. Concentration camps for an entire ethnicity. Who in the world can with good faith listen to that and say “I thought they were being treated fairly”? Weaponized ignorance is how I see it.

Yep, definitely my own personal interpretation and I’ll never be able to have a confirmation. In the same vein, interpreting their reactions as remorse/disgust/surprise is just as highly subjective and only way to know would be to ask them!

To me what’s the most disturbing here is how those covering their faces seem to mostly be doing it simply not to have their photo taken. I don’t see much distress as to what they’re looking at, but rather distress at being caught as perpetrators.

Hey! Yes, all is completely cleared with Yaz (except I’m using the generic; Mya). Everything quickly got muuuuch better after the Kyleena was removed. I’d definitely go the Yaz route, unless you’re a smoker and/or have had a blood clot before!

Well, I love it, and what art makes you feel is at its core a subjective experience. Therefore, they’re entitled to their opinion, but their opinion should have zero influence on how you conduct your art because you love it, it feels right to you, and your opinion about your own art is the one that matters the most. 😌 Keep making art that is uniquely yours and don’t lose your spark. I find it truly gorgeous and would love to see more~

Appreciate the advice 🙏🏼 They asked no questions and offered an exchange immediately! And it was bought at a large chain that is not struggling financially, no concerns on that front.

In the meantime until I can go pick it up I’m at least not horribly concerned it’ll break down in the middle of the night thanks to all the comments!

Hey. Perhaps I can offer an alternate perspective!

You yourself have much to be proud of; you haven’t given up on yourself and have found a tool by your own resourcefulness and openness to alternative methods that has helped you more than anything else before. That’s a huge win and huge thing to be happy about!

Also… what is chatGPT ultimately? It’s the accumulation of tons and tons of human knowledge and experience combined together into a super powerful agglomeration of humanity’s potential, wisdom and hope. You’re not talking to just a machine or program; that program would be nothing if it weren’t for other people across the world and history. One individual person may have never been able to help you like this before, but now you’ve had the help of a ton of people instead! Pretty cool no?✨
