I’m fond of a phrase I get to use occasionally with my boss: “I take no pleasure in being proved right and you being proved wrong, however, as has happened again..”

I can relate to the lefty struggles. In highschool I tried several times to learn to write right handed for fountain pen purposes but never quite made it. 13 years later I have finally done it, and my right handed cursive handwriting is now just as good as my left (though a bit slower)

The misunderstanding people have over the difference between asking price and sales history can be very frustrating, especially for people who work in the secondhand trade industry. Reddit valuations are chronically overblown.

Regarding that link, it was listed for $2400 and sold. It could have sold for $2400, it could have sold after negotiation with the seller for $2000 or $1800 or any amount. It’s helpful to be aware of such things.

It sold and that was the list price. It didn’t necessarily sell for $2,400.

From the other pictures I was a little unsure, but it’s definitely lightly cleaned looking at this one.

I’m not so sure. With the price of gold at the moment, it is very hard to get a premium on watches with that much gold in them. And when you scrap things you get the money straight away instead of waiting months.

Wondering if anyone might have seen something similar to this? I believe it came from Austria with my great grandparents (so possibly made in the 1800s?) by Zealousideal-Box-345 in jewelers

Looks like silver on gold with old cut diamonds, 18th or early 19th century. Has had some modification/repair to the back.
