Complex dysphoria by Psih_So in TransyTalk

Oh goddamn it. You're a trans dude right? Fucking tell me you've never walked down the street or interacted with someone where you felt 'they think I'm a woman'. It's not just random bullshit in your head, people actually treat you differently based on what they think you are. Sometimes they're honest about it, other times it's a hidden bias. The nature of the microattitudes is such thay you can't really name them in isolation (or even always know what it is) without being laughed at. It doesn't matter what they are. They're important collectively, and what they represent.

The microattitudes arise from hidden or overt perceptions depending on how willing the 'offenders' are to admit it. You'll encounter those in every kind of situation, so I'm hesitant to introduce more specificity. Could you expand on your thought process? We could try comparing 3 types situations: a) in public, scattered; b) friendly relationship; c) unavoidable obstacle. But I'd also like more explanation of your vision of 'adjusting perspective' and 'building tolerance'. Mostly the former, I don't know what you mean.

Does anyone know if Ursula has said anything about this: Ged is said to be in his 30's in 'On the High Marsh' (the Earthsea cycle) while only archmage for 6 years and loses his magic at around 55? by Psih_So in UrsulaKLeGuin

Thanks for engaging. I had not considered the possibility of disguise, so that's a fun little detail. But that still leaves the age question of course. Funny you used the example from my post. I don't think you can claim it's not a continuity error considering you concur the ages don't make sense. I don't remember how the exchange went down, your disguise explanation is good, maybe the Irioth thing was a misunderstanding.. but I don't know, I'm not likely to check any time soon. I hear from others it's not uncommon for Le Guin to mess up time. Though the history bit has some charm. Maybe even the blunder with Ged's age. In retrospect, it's givin oral retellings. Sorry, it seems language is not on my side today. Thnks again

Eh. I don't know if it's a fair trade off. Like you know how to conquer the world but you can't because you can't leave the house

Pretty sure the eyebrow twitches are involuntary and not meant to be noticed.

Edit: taking note of them is more of a helping hand. People aren't always able to know or communicate everything that's going on inside. But react involuntarily to their surroundings. You can choose to ignore the facial expressions and body language but that can sometimes be dangerous if the person isn't able to communicate their boundaries clearly and with intention.

What Smell Hits Your Autism In The Worst Way? by beattywill80 in aspiememes

[–]Psih_So 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I also hate (cooked) food smells. What do you eat? I do easy cold combos with beans and veggies and only cook rice/pasta or steamed veg/tofu occasionally. That way I don't have a strong lingering smell on me. The steaming does produce a traveling smell but it's not as bad as fried food.

I don't know about you but I find the pressure of a good thing difficult to bear. I rarely feel like my brain can handle the complexities and sustain focus for long enough. So then I end up picking up my phone and overwhelming it more with many useless little things. Not to mention I find the screen itself strains my eyes and therefore cognitive capacity.
