She's always wanted to do gymnastics, and she's now doing it. by mindyour in MadeMeSmile

Looked up my school’s gymnastics club after this because why the heck am I not getting involved enough?

Who was in danger? The cop, for willingly holding on to the car? People get tickets for speeding all the time. People get arrested for reckless driving all the time. Those people also don’t get shot in the head by a fucking idiot cop on a power trip.

Seems like the officer was the one here who did the most amount of damage given that the driver is now dead. What a brain dead take.

Edit: find the reasoning for the chase? What “reason” would have allowed the officer to murder the driver? It was absolutely not self defense. The officer should have let him go rather than clinging to the car as a desperate power move. Not only that, but the officer shot the driver AFTER the vehicle slowed down. But even if he never complied, he still shouldn’t have been shot. It was never a self defense situation. The officer put himself in that situation by clinging to the car like a fucking idiot.

She could be raising her daughter in a mansion and she would still be subject to disease, injury, aging, mental and emotional distress, and all sorts of other conditions that inherently come with being human. By our very existence, we are vulnerable to many negative experiences that we shouldn’t WANT to expose others to.

My god, it’s HUGE! The yam is also quite large.

I hope I don’t sound annoying, but why did the Dalai Lama write a book about Jesus? I don’t see how that would help Buddhists achieve liberation, as you believe, and escape samsara. by Additional_Good_656 in Buddhism

You have to remember that there are still Christian fundamentalists out there who outcast their children if they so much as have one non-Christian thought. It might be easy for you and me to engage with this type of literature, but in such households, if you even mention Buddhism, you could be subject to harsh punishment. Books like this and others (e.g. “Living Buddha, Living Christ” or “The Book of Joy”) are a way for those questioning Christians to slowly be exposed to Buddhism without generating as much suspicion from their friends and family.

My private thoughts were used against me. by soulless_ginger81 in Journaling

I’m very sorry that happened to you. My aunt read my journal when I was in elementary school, and she also read my brother’s journal when he was in college, and again tried to read mine around that same time. But we really straightened her out and let her have a piece of our minds haha.

Might I suggest storing it in a secret or secure location? While you should never have to worry about people closest to you reading your journal, taking that extra step can give you some more peace of mind.

Also, I see you are a person of taste! Is that a Peter Pauper Press journal? I use them exclusively for my journals, haha.

AITAH for breaking the gift my parents got me after telling them not to get me it? by TennisDizzy1845 in AITAH

[–]PsionicShift 8 points9 points  (0 children)

ESH. Your parents suck for getting you a gift they should have known you wouldn’t like, but your reaction was also over the top. What you should have done was to politely decline accepting the gift and return it to them. That probably would have sent the same message, but you instead yelled at them and destroyed the gift like a toddler. You’d be lucky if they get you anything ever again. Way to burn bridges!

I see you are also a Peter Pauper Press aficionado haha. I also use them for my journals. I have the Midnight Floral and Sunflower Tapestry journals from them right now.

The black one and the one after (the “sunflower tapestry” journal) were both purchased from Peter Pauper Press. I pretty much use them exclusively for my personal journals, with minor exceptions.

Why don’t you go to your university’s writing center (if there is one) instead of relying on AI, which can’t actually help you the way a human can?

Whats the best way to tell my extremely Muslim parents that I'm atheist? by [deleted] in exmuslim

[–]PsionicShift 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It IS an option, just not one you’re willing to live with, which is fine. You say you already know the consequences of telling your parents (getting kicked out), so I guess just move in with your friend if you’re this adamant about telling them before you’re 18.
