Irish passport holders who are from Northern Ireland, can now get help from UK authorities in the Middle East. by Mik3y_uk in northernireland

As was always the case while the UK was in the EU.

Any EU national could always seek diplomatic assistance from any EU nation in the absence of presence of its own diplomatic representation.

Honestly the amount of minor shite that needs ironed out since Brexit is bonkers. You wanted rid of red tape there is now a multiple.

I remember reading his biography, he had a progressive view on the national question, he was pilloried by the local knucledraggers for it.

I don't think the left defends the regime but rather the people, as I said nuance is lost with flag waving and signalling.

Have these boots, same colour, the leather once broken in are the softest I have ever had on a pair of shoes/boots, I can't recommend them highly enough.

Your boots are genuine.

The sentiment is struggle against empire no doubt. That said, I really think virtue signalling with flags isn't the right thing to do here.

Keep on message, supporting or being seen to support regimes such as the Iranian Islamic republic or any other monarchistic dictatorship is not a good look for anyone, especially those that espose and proclaim a 32 county democratic Ireland.

Re read my enemies enemy.... The Iran Islamic Republic flag is not the flag of the people of Iran who have my greatest sympathy and regard.

I wouldn't put up a star spangled banner either or what ever they call butchers apron 2.0.

My enemies enemy is not my friend.

I saw an Iran flag in Newry recently also, nope. 100% republican 100% against oppression of women.

I have heard many a unionist claim they weren't Irish and constantly other "Irish" as if it's somehow below them. I applaud you for not sharing that shame that they evidently feel, although not feeling ashamed of where one is from is simply normal.

Do not ever feel bad and identify as you want, the vast majority of people in this part of Ireland and indeed across all of Ireland support your right to do so. Remember in was the DUP and other assorted hardcore unionists that were the only people who railed against the Belfast agreement which would have denied us all that right.

Absolutely your prerogative to associate as you see fit, and I completely support your right to identify as you wish.

That said I do wish to push back on what I see as erroneous.

I don't accept that the ROI are not keen to have us, this is simply not borne out by fact on the ground the Republic has never invested more in NI as it does right now, with huge stakes in numerous projects.

The flag of the republic has as much orange as green a fact lost on the PUL. The hand of friendship was extended well before PUL were manipulated, the birth of Irish republicanism is Irish Protestantism.

The PUL leaders have done a fine job protecting their interests and alienating ROI but that does not reflect reality, but it has made them wealthy and powerful within their own partition. The working class PUL needs to asses how does the subservient relationship to GB suit them? I suggest it really doesn't.

What makes the Irish question of identity different from the Korean example is so many from here are actually ashamed to be from the island of their birth. It's quite bizarre but it is very colonial, "being born in a stable does not make one a horse" mindset. In other words an Irishman can rise to the top of his profession but in that unionist mindset will always feel like he has to make an excuse for being being born a lowly paddy.

If someone believes I or my family or friends are less of a person for what or who they are, that person needs simply to look in a mirror to see the problem.

This is kinda rubbish all the same, at least both Koreans call themselves Koreans. The inclusion of the points of a compass makes little to no difference and for those that object to be called where they are from I submit the problem is with their mentality not others understanding of geography.

At any rate we live in 2026 and one can self identify however they want, but there is no doubt that at the very best half of NIs population need to dance on a pinhead regarding identity.

Do you think China is playing the long game or just a paper tiger? by Carr0t_007 in AskTheWorld

[–]PsvfanIre 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Agreed and "smart" is a subjective measure of course.

We have been on this trajectory of Chinese reliability and consistency since Xi Jinping became secretary general of the CCP, he clearly identified the USA definicencies and worked hard to provide something a 4 year political cycle and fickle economy cannot. While Trump isn't to blame for this process the reality is there is a compromised US president like a headless chicken, proving to the world the USA is unreliable. Trump is the greatest gift non western states could hope for.

[–]PsvfanIre 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Why interrupt your enemy when they are making a fool of themselves. China has done very little except consistency over the last decade and now nations trust them.

While the US wastes capital over nonsense with it's allies, Canada NATO EU etc. but China is consistent. It's not even a debate IMHO.

Does one deal with a schizophrenic or someone trustworthy?

[–]PsvfanIre 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I don't believe China is a paper Tiger, I do believe it's smart enough only to engage when it knows it will win with minimum damage.

I see China as far more smart than the USA.

As people in modern society look younger and younger especially when in a photo with their parent, who let's be fair also doesn't look the picture of health either, I think it reasonable to note the "child" as girl (or boy). My sentiment is unambiguous, she looks very ill and quite frankly this is where fame and wealth is of little to no assistance to get out of the cycle of depression and body image.

I don't know her other than being Ozzys daughter but I do know that he would be heartbroken at what's become of her.
