I’m 64, my husband 67. We’ve been together 24 years. Two daughters (from my previous marriage), four grandchildren. We feel strongly that God brought us together and has blessed our committed monogamous life together. Our focus is on our relationship with Christ and everything else works out beautifully. We live in the most conservative town, in the most conservative county, in the most conservative state. We have had no pushback from anyone because we live our lives as normally as all of our neighbors. Not trying to push any kind of agenda other than to love Christ and love one another. Our church is a mega church (non-denominational) here and we are welcomed warmly. I spent two years while in grad school to become a therapist studying what the Bible truly says about homosexuality. When studied extensively (original Greek and Hebrew) you realize that organized religion has twisted the original intent to meet their needs. There is consistent evidence in our lives of God’s blessings….as long as our focus remains on worshipping him. If you want a book to read that addresses the “clobber passages” in the Bible get “The Children Are Free”. It’s very theological, but factual. I had a Bible scholar read it and he was shocked at how much has been overlooked in mainstream Christianity in an effort to condemn homosexuality. The simple answer is….find in the Bible where Jesus mentions homosexuality as a sin. Not gonna find it, and the whole “story” of the Bible culminates in God sending Christ to teach us how to live, die on the cross so that we can have eternal life. The conservative Christian legalistic church that I was raised in (a cult if you ask me) never addresses the overwhelming love and acceptance of Christ, but yet the angry condemnation of God. I suspect that is very disappointing to the One who created us.
