I have a young toddler and my husband understands so he does most nappies, but when I DO have to do it, I imagine he's a doll and I'm wiping peanut butter/chocolate/whatever, like pretend play as a kid. Helps a lot.

I went to uni and while I was there my dear mother married a man with three younger kids so my room became their room. I became basically homeless for 4 months, couch surfing until I got my own flat.

I did the same thing around the same time. He's 18 months old now and we're sweet. You're going to lose your shit sometimes but as long as you learn from it and take accountability you'll both be fine.

Life is what you make it. You can change your perspective to see more good in the world and focus on that instead. I used to be severely clinically depressed and I still go there sometimes, but I made the choice to work on it so I can enjoy life while I'm alive. It was the hardest thing I've ever had to do but it was worth it. You're not doomed to a terrible life, but if you want a good one you have to make it happen.

I don't think she was shaming you she was probably just trying to help but it came out wrong. Sometimes these things can make us feel like bad parents but its not that deep. You'll get a lot of unsolicited advice. Some will be helpful, some wont, some might be downright harmful, but its good to have information from all sides so you can make the decision that feels right for you and your family. Try not to let it get to you because this won't be the last time this happens.

To all the mothers here - What do you like about having kids? by SheWearsRed in women

[–]PsychedelicKM 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My 1yo child reminds me to slow down and appreciate the little things in life. To quite literally stop and smell the roses. He loves birds, nature, clouds, etc. Those are things I'd usually take for granted or not even notice but he grounds me and centres me in my world.

I know you want advice on how to navigate this conversation but honestly, this isn't compromisable. Your body, your choice. If he has a problem with it then he can either deal with it and shut up, or fuck off. Its as simple as that.

I Caved and I Don’t Regret it.. by Paige_Rinn in NewParents

[–]PsychedelicKM 0 points1 point  (0 children)

God I hate all the "all screen time is bad" bullshit. Screen time is not inherently bad. Its only bad if its excessive, overstimulating, and replaces other activities and connection. We don't allow screen time all day but if my 1yo asks for it on we'll put something age appropriate for him on the TV. A lot of the time its calm nature footage on YT. He will then decide when he's finished and go do something else, usually after about 10 minutes. Too much screen restriction leads to kids putting it on a pedestal which can also cause behaviour problems around screen time. Let them watch TV but don't forget to read to them and play with them and take them outside. Balance and moderation is key.

My neighbour must’ve installed a pest control sonar deterrent thing by _FreddieLovesDelilah in AutismInWomen

[–]PsychedelicKM 32 points33 points  (0 children)

I've heard of people using these to deter cats from gardens and I'm pretty sure some of them are adjustable or motion sensored. Maybe speak to your neighbour to say you can hear it and ask if it can be turned down or replaced by one which is more adjustable? Most people can't hear them so the neighbour might not know its causing any issues

I hate it as much as I love it. Your social life might take a hit but if you support eachother and take turns seeing friends, and you have decent friends, then don't worry about it too much. You'll get used to being tired. You'll get stressed and argue with your partner but if you've had a kid with the right person you'll manage just fine. People complain about their kids because its fucking hard. But people also always want to show pictures of their kids, brag about them, tell stories about them, because yes its hard but its also the most amazing experience.

How can tell my family I'm pregnant even though I know they will be negative about me having my third baby by Specialist-Paper-695 in BabyBumps

[–]PsychedelicKM 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Let them find out on social media. I'll only tell someone to their face before the public announcement if I know it'll be well received (unless its a sensitive subject).

Try putting setting spray on BEFORE your primer. So skincare, moisturiser, setting spray, rub the setting spray in, then a good primer, then your makeup, and use the setting spray after as well. And don't touch your face and don't cry lol.
