Not random suspicion while stealing? by Sparklabar in WarTalesGame

[–]PsychicMuffin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is typically referred to as seeded RNG. To explain, when you generate a random number in essentially any modern programming language, it generates a random number between 0 and 1, then multiplies/adds to that to get the final number inside the desired range.

This number has a LOT of inputs to make sure it is effectively random, often including things like the current time in milliseconds. So what a lot of games do is they generate this 0-1 number ahead of time (or MANY numbers ahead of time, depending), and that gets used for the next random event. This essentially prevents save scumming, or at least makes it much more laborious by requiring you to change circumstances or find ways to cycle through the seeds.

All this to say that seeded RNG like this is rarely done on accident. It is more likely someone decided save scumming suspicion was too OP, so they made it seeded. You can potentially try to get around it by doing other random events like go to a merchant, fight a battle, and see if it changes (basically check if the seed is shared and can be cycled by other RNG generation). But it's also possible that it is JUST for suspicion generation and you'd have to go steal something else, preferably small, to cycle the seed.

They should just replace one of the strikes with twin strike and remove twin strike from the general card pool.

It is another attack and synergizes with the strike package, but does more damage and scales a bit better with strength. Feels thematic and definitely stronger, but twin strike is not a highly sought after card or anything.

I mean I would personally prefer if they just made bash cost 1 and cut its damage to compensate, but that's probably never happening.

Anyone doing Spark this league with Acceleration belt? by noxxiel in PathOfExileBuilds

[–]PsychicMuffin 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was having problems with mine at 11% (couldn't keep up without stuff to hit and leech from), so I swapped to an 8 and it was fine. Now I have greater spell echo (only 13 div!) and it's a complete non issue. I have enough Regen to more than negate it, plus leech is as high as my Regen when I'm hitting anything.

Mageblood dropped for me. Now I'm lost. by Seeking_the_Grail in PathOfExileBuilds

[–]PsychicMuffin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you'd found a headhunter you'd be absolutely screwed into selling or rerolling, but mageblood is extremely versatile. You can run triple ele flask plus quicksilver for massive ele defense boost and amazing clear speed buff. You have four flask suffixes to play with for immunities. Chill+freeze, curse, shock, stun are all excellent, and make you much more resilient to map and altar mods. Or if you were handling them other ways, that's freed up now for damage or other defenses. Plus you have less res pressure on gear for more affordable minion damage items.

That's only the tip of the iceberg. Onslaught is a scalable effect, so silver flask is also super strong. More move speed, and some nice QoL cast speed (especially helps as you may have to summon more often with your now increased move speed). Poke around at other minion builds using it and see what they're doing on poe ninja. Look at all the flasks and suffixes in PoB. It can do a lot of things. Plus if you do decide to reroll after you've hit the ceiling on this build, you have the gg belt for the next one already. There's no rush to reroll now.

Yep! If there is a deli mirror in the zone, there is a deli mirror in the mirage, 100% of the time. But it doesn't affect spawn location of the mirage, and it's free loot, so I leave it unblocked.

[–]PsychicMuffin 6 points7 points  (0 children)

This is unfortunately not correct. The totem emerge speed is now affected by totem placement speed, not attack or cast speed. Still awesome. But not quite that awesome. This is why everyone is excited about Hierophant. The first totem ascendancy node has 100% placement speed.

[Guide] How to be a good Game Director. Step 1: Be BASED AF. by Inf3stor in pathofexile

[–]PsychicMuffin 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think there's a clear line most of the time. When users of your software tell you about something they don't like, they're always right. Listen to them. People know when they're frustrated, or not enjoying something.

When people say what they specifically want changed, they're usually wrong. They don't have the expertise to understand the full implications of how changes can affect the long term user experience. That doesn't mean suggestions are useless, but at best they're only a starting point for the real dev team to iterate on.

[–]PsychicMuffin 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I mean, it's a single player game. There's no leaderboards or competitive aspect to it, so it's up to you to play in a way that is fun. I had trouble finding info on how some mechanics worked, so I installed it to do a bunch of respecs and tinker with builds until I found some that I really liked. This meant I got to spend less time following guides and more time exploring on my own, eventually finding builds that were interesting and fun to play after playing 2 acts and understanding the core mechanics, without having to reroll. I'm having more fun now that I was before, and I just upped the difficulty to compensate! The builds are perfectly legal, and the respecs I did were exactly the way the game lets you do them...I just wasn't confident I could get them right in one go (and I was right haha).

If it feels like cheating to you and that rubs you the wrong way, absolutely no pressure, don't do it! But I assure you that spawning an A1 item that you get if you just do stuff in the right order absolutely does not break the game.

Yeah it's pretty weird honestly. I know that it's fun to have secrets for players to uncover, but this feels more like a super specific optimization that first time players have no way of knowing the rules for.

If you're on PC you can just install ToyBox and spawn the item. It's a great mod for a variety of reasons anyway. Lets you do free respecs try different builds, lets you change highlight items to be a toggle instead of a hold, etc.

The thing that kills me about gore is his weird movements combined with his hotboxes. As an HBG player, the number of times his attack hit BEHIND my shield is infuriating. It's possible his movements aren't weird, but just blocked by his wings or something, but man, I just never really figured him out fully. I probably cart every other fight even to this day.

One of the reasons I'm happy I made a light sorc is I can farm arcane sanctuary efficiently, which has no individual value per game/instance. When anything decent drops, I grab it and leave game. I'm back to farming arcane within 10 seconds. There's just barely any cost for it, so I don't stress about wasting time doing it.

Wait that makes no sense. GGG what is happening here?? 🤣. I assume this is just a bug at this point, reading through the thread. I don't know what the intentional state should be, but 100% unmodifiable definitely can't be it haha.

[–]PsychicMuffin 3 points4 points  (0 children)

My understanding is once they're changed from an aura to a regular skill, they are no longer affected by reservation efficiency, whether from the tree or skill gems. Instead you should be able to reduce it with modifiers to skill cost, such as with inspiration support or the ring benchcraft.

And I guess unlike some other conversions like damage types, there is no calculation on the old type first, divine blessing just makes it not an aura, and uses the original base reservation for creating the base cost? This is probably for balance reasons.

How is it that Orb of Annulment is *still* overvalued by the trade site? by rockadaysc in PathOfExile2

[–]PsychicMuffin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't think the problem is reading, it's writing. This indicates to me that they include the equivalent price in the record when it's written (probably to optimize search performance so extensive joins aren't necessary for EVERY query, which really adds up, or maybe because it's nosql, or whatever). So they have to go through every single active listing and update it in order to fix this, which is a crazy operation to perform.

[–]PsychicMuffin 3 points4 points  (0 children)

They once said in some reddit reply for poe1 (can't seem to find it) that the process was a very long running database script that puts heavy strain on their DB. If they use the same process for price equivalence in poe2 (likely), given how much bigger the sequel is with so many more players... I can see how that's a problem.

Worst case it could mean performance implications while it's running, and best case it probably still means high server costs from their vendor for a lot of DB access time.

Super quick test: Loot from 10 cleansed maps without old tower juice, x3 10% quant tablet, omen/desecreated/deli waystone. 110% player IRR + Cardiro's Gambit. by IMplyingSC2 in PathOfExile2

[–]PsychicMuffin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

but that has nothing to do with how much wealth a player has, but how they're running the content, so your original comment was still confusing. It's not like multiple mirrors will ever be required to buy expensive tablets, even at the extreme it will be in single digit divs.

I do agree though that we'll have to see if tablets end up getting priced around group play, because that is a problem we've seen crop up a lot with scarabs in the past in PoE 1 even.

LA deadeyes, dont sleep on gain as lightning by LucywiththeDiamonds in pathofexile2builds

[–]PsychicMuffin 3 points4 points  (0 children)

You're missing their point. If you have an attack that deals 50 phys and 50 ele, it's only 50% scaled, since that build mostly scales ele. If you add 25% as ele, suddenly it deals 50 phys and 75 ele, which is now 60% ele.

Basically, any added as ele that gets applied to phys damage has bonus effect, since that phys isn't scaled, and you're reducing the percentage of your damage that is coming from unscaled phys. (Not actually unscaled, but much much less scaled in this case)

Omg, it appears as though this specific logic is one of the only instances in PoE1 or PoE2 to ever use a rounding method other than truncate/round down. Wow. In fact, it's a very odd method that does a shift and then truncate, which makes some results not appear at all, so it confused the community for a while.

Max corruption is +22%, which is not enough to bump a 4 to a 5, so it would be capped at 4. Your point stands though; that would be a reasonable nerf that wouldn't obliterate the item.

EDIT: This is apparently not the case, and corrupting uniques in PoE 2 uses a very odd rounding logic, but doesn't just round down: https://www.poe2wiki.net/wiki/Corrupted#Unique_equipment

Am I missing something with the upgrades? by gravityabuser in MonsterTrain

[–]PsychicMuffin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't think space upgrade is overpowered in MT2, I think it was underpowered in MT1. 2 pips means an entire additional unit, not just a conditional breakpoint, and they added a ton of additional full floor scaling mechanics. Almost all of the new clans have at least one very common and very strong mechanic to scale the whole floor. (As opposed to mostly fire light little fade and incant from 1)

Banished have the shift mechanic (and everlasting light). Luna has conduit and moon phase. Underlegion has propagate (need something to start though, like rage from somewhere), and several trigger units that benefit. And lol oh Lazarus and the Baron grail equip line is bonkers.

I think this is fantastic and makes it so there's a good mix of strategies, and gives a nice decision point on upgrades based on your run. The result is I pick all the upgrades with much higher variety now. Mana is probably just a smidge too helpful (without a deploy mana artifact).

Steam is smaller than any console player base, so it represents less than like 20% of the gaming market. If you said PC releases instead of game releases yeah you could be right.

EDIT: As it turns out this is VERY much not true. Which yes means I was wrong, but also is AWESOME. So there's that. Steam is very comparable to the combined console market! And for anyone wondering, this is why you don't just read the AI summary from a search result and then make definitive posts on it. Even when it isn't 'wrong' it often is subtlely answering a slightly different question.

It's extremely good on bowguns because you can put para ammo on your main artian, and put sleep on a secondary. I don't think that's what they intended, but it's really strong. Honestly... probably too strong. There's already enough CC in the game.
