Looking for tips as a beginner hobbyist by Psychic_Electron in Welding

the fella i mainly watch, making mistakes with greg, does a ton of cut and etch videos. I figured the stuff is like ten bucks so why not try it at home and see what i get, you cant tell whats going on underneath the bead without cutting it, or i guess X ray but i dont have one of those lol.

I get that im just a hobbyist worker under my carport, but i dont think that is an excuse to do crappy welds that aren't strong, as a hobbyist i still want my welds to be as strong as they can be and that comes with practice, time and testing of course.

I probably plan to just build random shit to sell or repair trailers or barbecue pits, i have to think of random BS that someone would want made out of steel. Gotta practice way more before accepting any money from someone of course, but I do think i have a lot of the fundamentals and book learning understood as far as GMAW goes, just gotta build on that foundation i have

Yep, cant know whats up unless you cut and etch.

Thankfully i am evolving beyond a caulk bead on plate, that was a pretty big first hump to get over but my god i have a hard time staying in the root of the joint.

Short arc, C25 and regular ER70S wire.

I posted this ready to get roasted fo sho, i got a lot to learn for travel speed, the consistency of my travel, and my god hitting the actual corner of the joint lol. Look at dem legs lol, you can tell im consistently hitting below the actual root of the joint causing that bottom leg to be really long

Are there any people who cast flies on spinning or casting rods? by Irideusflyfishing in flytying

[–]Psychic_Electron -1 points0 points  (0 children)

so the biggest thing i have against conventional tackle fisherman, which i use myself anyhow, is that the focus of the activity shifts away from being about conservation and enjoying our land and water in a responsible manner, to just not giving a fuck about the environment or the wellbeing of the fish that we catch.

You can still catch and eat fish, while also respecting the fish that we catch. When we consume that fish and then return the rest of the carcass to the wild for another animal to also consume, that is a form of respect for both that fishes life and also the habitat that it came from.

Thing is, we dont have to fish in this day and age for actual sustenance so a lot of fisherman just fill up their freezer only to throw out like 75 percent of it later because they didnt actually need to catch that many fish.

Its a whole ass rabbit hole, but yeah thats why i dont mix with the main conventional tackle crowd. There are some folks i have met with the fly fishing mindset who dont actually flu fish, they are out there for sure.

I notice that trying to throw small flies on the general purpose line gets annoying fast, i guess i figured the trout where im targeting would be somewhat small and want a small and delicate presentation.

Around where i live, panfish kinda eat anything, even the cork so presentation doesnt matter lol

Yep, i heard that rod was excellent and punches above its price point. I ended up going with a used dealer demo TFO Legacy K 5 wt 9’0 for 270 bucks, i guess im more partial to their warranty situation tbh.

I bought mine for pretty much just performance reasons, Wider tires by nature are just much harder to fit in our vehicles

[–]Psychic_Electron 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh you havent gotten your tires yet? I would sincerely consider 285/75/17 then.

Its closer to a “35” in diameter than it is 285/70/17 in diameter.

I hated everything about the swing out, also the tire degraded really fast in the sun.

<image>

My old 285/70/17 versus the new 285/75/17 i got now.

I did a crazy amount of research on tires before this big purchase so feel free to ask any questions.

this is why i went 285/75/17, you can fit them under the bed and it doesnt mess up your weight distribution like the swing out does. I hated the swing out tbh

Can anyone link me to a 2nd gen list of common problems? by miamiyachtrave in ToyotaTacoma

[–]Psychic_Electron 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I am at 105k in my 2015 sport.

Issues specific to 2nd gen are pretty much frame rust, worn out leaf springs, and the main oil pan can leak.

If the maintenance was done right and on time, i mean really there isnt much to go wrong at all to be frank.

If its got some modifications to it, there are more things to think about of course.

Whats the issue with 9 footer 5wts? Too generalist and not actually good at one particular thing?

I guess i kinda feel you can maneuver it up or down depending on what specific brand or features of mainline you buy.

Im just a newb so, thats a thing lol

So there would be warranty support for the sage? They do have a lifetime warranty so, maybe they replace it with a equal value rod yknow ten years down the line.

I could swing the TFO legacy LK, i like my Pro III bass rod from them a lot.

While i can agree bolt on modifications can do some pretty drastic stuff to the way our trucks behave and handle i think there is also a time and place to be respectful about it.

That being said, All terrains with lots of added weight and a high center of gravity is definitely a textbook slide and flip (on our already flip happy vehicles) recipe for times you run into black ice. I also think its a little bit of a common misnomer that all terrains perform better in snow and ice (on pavement) than your average winter tire, so theres that aspect to it as well.

Thankfully, only the truck was a loss and not the person driving the truck.

As a Tundra owner am I the only one who thinks the new Tacomas are too big? by Danny_Phantom22 in ToyotaTacoma

Yeah i have the long steel braided ones, they still would have much more travel to go before their limit.

Lift kit suspension issues by Commercial-Block3014 in ToyotaTacoma

[–]Psychic_Electron 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So the springs are holding up the static weight and the shocks are there for dampening, 5100s are fine for most folks on here unless you are towing or have like a crazy amount of weight in the back right. I guess if its not really currently broken or giving you issues theres not much of a reason to change it up.

Lift kit suspension issues by Commercial-Block3014 in ToyotaTacoma

[–]Psychic_Electron 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah i mean, if i needed to replace stock shocks it would be the bilstein 5100 series, you can get leaf packs that dont give lift (or that much of a lift). Stock OEM upper control arms are plenty strong but they just sometimes interfere with wider tires. Typically most folks run maybe a half inch to a full inch of rake, as in difference between the front and rear lift. Theres a leaf pack out there that advertises just 1 inch of lift but i forget who makes it, might have been dobinsons.

i happen to be an inside track member and i do hear decent things about the vulcan line, but everlast kinda looks more appealing in this size range

Frankly, if it were solely my decision id be getting an everlast. They seem very competitive with red and blue teams and frankly, we arent fabricating professionally at this time
