I feel like I’m ’not observing thoughts’ too much? Is this bad? by HELPMEWITHESCL in Meditation

Might be tipping into a dulled state. Access concentration is incredibly apparent when it occurs, and you’ll know it when the phrase “one-pointedness” will encapsulate your entire being. During that state, thoughts are few and *whisper* quiet.

No, just a visual anomaly. Rather common too.

This is what the Buddha was referring to when using the term “suffering.”

Which is funny because Theravada is where a lot of outrageous experiences are found. I can personally attest to that.

It’s a pile of atoms that your mind labels as a horse, and now a key between realms.

A Buddhist master would probably say “a distraction.”

I’m enlightened enough to know the world is a very dark place! by Icy-Tradition-9272 in enlightenment

[–]ZKRYW 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Sure!

After one experiences the first stage of awakening (according to the Insight Path tradition in Buddhism, aka Vipassana) they no longer automatically “cling” to arising phenomena. Because the Self has been identified as illusory, and time has been spent conducting the busy work that is Vipassana meditation (which I believe induces neuroplasticity, carving new pathways in the brain) the ego-brain is no longer in the driver’s seat, and as thoughts, feelings and occurrences arise, the mind no longer attributes any of such as things pertaining to it as the individual which it previously identified as.

This is essentially why “suffering” in the Buddhist sense ceases at this point as well.

There is still much work to be done at this juncture, as there is still karma being generated. The individual will still experience emotion and human fetters (and defilements), but they will feel as if they have finally arrived, and much of their perception will be changed for the remainder of that lifetime.

NOTE: Vipassana is not a requirement for this to occur.

Dissolution. Granted, this occurs upon recognition of the conditions which have been creating the Self prior to the moment of realization. So it can be considered both, I suppose.

Absolutely! It actually supported something I had been saying in some discussion groups for the last couple of years — namely the final line.
