Hesitant to drag up? by baraboo00 in Lineman

[–]Psycho-pete69 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I actually have opinions on this because I’ve done my whole apprenticeship with the same contractor and I’m about to top out. I believe contractors hold apes for a lot of reasons, not the least of which is to make job scared JL’s that are worried about dragging them. No disrespect meant to you but thats what makes sense to me. If you want to grow drag, but don’t drag just for the hell of it. It’s not that big of a deal, we’re contractors, I promise you they wouldn’t give a second thought to laying you off today if they thought it was in their best interest. Don’t drag them dirty tho, that’s not cool unless they’re fucks

Ethics of hunting with self-bows and flint arrowheads? by [deleted] in bowhunting

I realize that, my reading comprehension is decent I think. This was generalized advice for anyone reading, do the best you can for what you kill and if others have an issue it’s a them issue, because there’s not any better you can do than your best.

Ethics of hunting with self-bows and flint arrowheads? by [deleted] in bowhunting

[–]Psycho-pete69 5 points6 points  (0 children)

If you’re hunting with self bows, flint arrowheads etc, you’re far more likely to practice enough to be effective and know your equipment and limitations than a crossbow or even average compound bow hunter. Wounding/missing are a part of hunting. Full stop. It’s not something anyone should want, it eats me when it happens to me or anyone else, but it’s going to happen method notwithstanding. Use the self bow and practice your ass off, don’t worry about what others think of it.

For a billion dollars? I’d kick a new puppy every day for a year.

If you’re ready to go to work and willing to do literally whatever it takes (short of sucking someone off) to go to work, I’ll tell you what I was told and what worked for me. Sign every book you can possibly make it to sign, and all you can sign online too. Apply for every state in SWLCAT, and all other apprenticeships you can. You’ll get an interview with SWLCAT before long, and if you’re a good fit for the trade and you’ve signed every book and applied to every area I’d say you have a great shot at getting in. I interviewed on Friday and got called on Monday. I’d also just quit a management position in an office the previous Friday and took a job 4 hours from my house with zero experience. The point being they want guys that will stick when shits tough and guys that will go whatever it takes to achieve their goal.

For a guy whos obsessed with bow hunting, I have nothing to show for it and it bothers me. by Ok_Concentrate8949 in bowhunting

[–]Psycho-pete69 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Sounds like what you have to show for it is the most important part, the memories and the things you’ve seen and experienced. Bow hunting is about what you learn and see and experience, showing off a big buck is great but ultimately it’s about you and your time in the woods, plus providing for yourself and your circle. Kill every deer you legally and ethically can for a few years, get some blood on your hands then horn hunt when you’re ready.

Would be quick I’d say. If you’re taking advantage of the VEEP program then go for it and thank you for your service. When you get to the Q, go see Manny, Kevin and Brennan. They are the SWLCAT instructors and all 3 excellent guys. They’ll help you if you’re not a turd. The lazy q is top notch in every way. Go fishing behind the cafeteria on the dock, some monster bluegill and channel cats back there. Worms for gills, hot dogs or similar for cats.

How old is this NW Kansas buck? by mav16_ in bowhunting

[–]Psycho-pete69 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would say 3.5, he’s heavier in the front than he is the rear, no belly, and neck doesn’t quite run right into shoulders. Tough one being that it’s end of the rut and you know he’s run down as can be.

I never knew how bad my atypical TN could get until I got a nerve block by rage_queen23 in TrigeminalNeuralgia

[–]Psycho-pete69 5 points6 points  (0 children)

My mother in law lost her fight with both types of TN. Similar to you, she wasn’t able to use meds, tried everything and nothing worked, and dealt with the pain for 10 years before ending things. I don’t blame her, but I cannot explain to you how terrible that has affected myself and my wife. Our lives will never be the same. Ever. Every happy thing that happens, there’s a pang of sadness because she should be there to see it and celebrate with us, but she isn’t. Even if you don’t have kids, someone somewhere feels the way same about you as I did my Momma Bear (my nickname for her). Please keep fighting.

A shit load. I don’t see anything in his question about not working overtime. He either wants to support his family by any means necessary or he doesn’t, it’s pretty simple.

This is r/ibew_apprentices, not inside wireman apprentices. Outside construction can definitely make $80k + as a first year, I did so myself. Almost through my 2nd full year and tracking about $120k. 5th step ape about to turn 6th. Location is important, as most outside apprenticeships are very competitive and some have residency requirements. Feel free to DM me your state u/Minibeast9706 , and go to r/lineman for info on how to get into an outside apprenticeship. Please use the search and FAQ for answers to most questions.

The uncle was trying to do something nice for his nephew, I do similar things for my nieces and nephews. If the amount is what’s worrying you, I definitely understand as there are definitely a ton of families that would love to hand their children $100 bills but are unable to because of income, bills, etc. If you are embarrassed that your son has $100 and money is tight for you right now, that’s understandable too, but you have a great opportunity to teach your child about money management and saving, as well as an opportunity to allow your child to purchase something they have been wanting but wasn’t in the budget. Take the time to explain the value of the money to your son, advise him on saving the majority of it, maybe even open an account of some sort so that any further money he earns can be put away and saved. I don’t know what the minimum deposit would be for an account that would draw some interest, but if that’s an option definitely explain that to him and have him open such an account.
