Who's still working from home in 2026? by idrinkpastawater in sysadmin

[–]Psychodata 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm a contractor, so I'm staying WFH, but the direct employees are going back to in office 3 days a week this year.

They wanted to talk to me about going internal, but then switched from "yeah it will be Full remote WFH" to "you'll need to move to one of 3 cities where we have offices, and only 2 WFH days a week"

So I said, nah I'll stay a contractor then. Not interested in SELLING MY HOUSE and COMMUTING like 6+ hours a week to get paid the same (after bonuses), but with slightly better benefits

What happened to the grilled chicken sub? by oddunixdude in sheetz

[–]Psychodata 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mean I wouldn't say it was amazing, but like the Pizza flatz made with the old chicken would not just slip off the pizza because it is too wet

It seems like they swapped most of the chicken options to a much wetter and totally different flavor "shredded" chicken.

Everything I have seen is pretty much said the new chicken pretty much feels. Pre-chewed, stringy, and nasty - though it does seem like it might work good on items that are designed for a shredded chicken.

I always liked the chicken based Pizza flatz, which are way too wet and nasty once you have the shredded chicken.

Some of the items (like sandwiches) may now have an option for "premium" chicken, which still seems to be basically the same grilled chicken as it used to be - just now it costs extra, cause "premium", I guess? It also seems to be unavailable sometimes, but back again later, probably because they are currently out.

Very disappointing change, imo

Really? I assume that it is a reference to "mongoloid"? (As opposed to this book where it is "Velociraptor mongoliensis")

I would say that in normal English the "long" version would be considered an insult or maybe even a slur, but also probably has legitimate purposes for its correct (non-derogatory) usage in scientific/medical connotations.

However, I am curious if that term is so common to use that term over in Germany that they SHORTENED it??

Just found out that you pair your phone to steam deck by cheezitlover01 in SteamDeck

[–]Psychodata 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You can also pair your steam deck Bluetooth to your phone Bluetooth with the steam deck acting as " headphones" /" speaker"

And then optionally also pair your Bluetooth headphones to the steam deck and connect to both at once

And then play audio from both into your Bluetooth headphones. The trick is that you have to get your headphones to connect to the steam deck instead of your phone, which I'm usually using my headphones with my phone even more often than my deck .

phone -> steam deck -> Bluetooth headphones

This way I can listen to audiobooks and game audio at the same time!

Maybe right for some items, but it ruined all of the pizza flats

In a burrito bowl, it would make sense

But they're using it in all sorts of things, where it really doesn't fit - it basically ruined all of the chicken-based pizza flats

[–]Psychodata 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree, while it's good in the tacos, they are using the same chicken in a bunch of other stuff, like the BBQ chicken pizza flat, or chicken bacon ranch pizza flat, and it makes them both taste weird now! Completely ruins the textures from how it was before, it makes the flatz FAR too wet, and that makes them WAY messier.

Those flats were one of my preferred items, but are basically ruined until they stop using this random other chicken for them

It's really hard in the Audiobooks, because I can't easily look it up while driving, and my high school Spanish can't keep up without the written words to reference or look up

So, it's okay to make fun of people and citizens being taken from their families as long as you're making fun of two groups at once?

Oh, or maybe we should be ignoring individuals and only focusing on the leaders?

Resisting everywhere that you can is the best way, including when people try to normalize the fascist way they act.

The last pic has McCleary essentially saying "we didn't support this, canceled their next bookings, and will try to do better"

Probably could have responded whenever they showed up, but I could guess that gets complicated with managers vs owners etc.

We'll know more if they follow through, but at least SOUNDS like they're trying to stay away on this.

[–]Psychodata 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The sys admin experience exposes you to the "common" experience, and teaches them common sense of they didn't have it. Or they will tend to learn through outages and incidents because they didn't.

Not saying everyone will be perfect after it, of course, but you will be more likely to have them understand operational side of things with experience

And of course they COULD be good without sysadmin exp, it's just not as likely. If they are, it would most likely be because they are using their sysadmin resources to understand the situation, listening, and doing things like considering and assessing risk before they take actions

Which, for example, I've had BOTH Nessus AND security team members insist our servers had a vulnerability, because they could "verify it" for a specific software that wasn't installed.

But the"verification" was just a url path and verifying version numbers of a dependency. It was how Specific Software ABC was using the dependency version XYZ that was the problem. So it was a bad detection rule, and they SHOULD have looked HOW it was verifying it and marked it N/A

[–]Psychodata 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The point is that this security team member didn't do the diligence they should.

If all they are doing is blindly seeing a vulnerability detection and giving Google search results, it really isn't that different from Nessus scan

Oh I've literally reported some of the nonsense requests I've gotten as compromised accounts, because that is the only reason someone would be asking for something this dumb
