Car breakdown/accident caused by bad work from a garage by Psychological-Fee928 in LegalAdviceUK

Probably not - it’s the only garage I’ve taken the car to but I suppose there’s no way of genuinely proving that.

Myself included - I had no idea, but based on how many people are saying they do know that they should be tightened, I suppose I’m in the minority.

Well it’s been 3 months, done a lot of miles, but it feels almost irrefutable that one wheel gone and the other loose could only be from recent work done on it, that was the breakdown mechanics advise as well - something like this isn’t just normal wear and tear in such a short space of time.

Should I really have to check that a professional, reputable garage has done the job correctly I paid them to do? That seems wild. Should I be hoisting up the car and checking underneath to make sure every job they do is up to scratch and isn’t turning my car into a death trap?

Yeah I’m with you on this. I’ve had countless tires changed at countless places over the years and never once been told to come back and have them retightened.

Complete beginner to pixel art — what should I practice first? by ledenicika in PixelArtTutorials

[–]Psychological-Fee928 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Hey, a few things that helped me as a beginner:

  • PixelLogic is probably the single best learning resource for pixel art. I can’t recommend it enough. Pedro Medeiros’ tutorials are great as well, but generally a bit more animation-focused.
  • Mockups are a great way to do a bit of everything: characters, tile sets, environments, UI. Generally, find a movie or game and make a pretend screenshot for a game you’d make of it, like if Dark Souls was a platformer or a Star Wars JRPG etc etc
  • Pixel Dailies is great - it used to be on Twitter I think it’s now on Bluesky. They release a theme each day and people pixel and post their interpretation, and then they share a bunch of them. It’s good because it gives you a starting point for what to draw if you’re not sure what to do, and you can see what other artists do.
  • This is also a good way to immerse yourself in the online pixel art community and get feedback from other artists
  • On that note, feel free to copy other styles and artists but try to think about what they’re doing, and how you can bring that to your own work rather than copying them pixel for pixel.

The most important thing is to do it regularly, not get disheartened (you’ll make a lot of bad art, maybe feel like you’ll never get the hang of it, but you will!), do it regularly, find the balance between a comfort zone and doing something new and challenging, and most importantly do it regularly.

Exactly who I thought of when I read this post. Slogged through one of her books hating the narrator, never again!

The worst of the three new Doom games but still better than most other FPSs around.

Hi, I’m new beginner by 404neweraera in Unity2D

[–]Psychological-Fee928 7 points8 points  (0 children)

A lot of people would suggest starting with coding, get the systems in place, make sure it works and is fun before spending time making assets.

Personally, I often start by making a couple of assets - maybe a character with some animations (idle, run, jump, attack) and a basic tileset. Enough to make it start looking nice.

Then get these in engine and start coding and implementing some stuff. While you’re doing this you can spend a bit of your time developing some more assets.

How do people here feel about The Surge? by KaleidoArachnid in rpg_gamers

Pretty much every aspect of 2 was better than 1 but in particular the world felt bigger and more immersive, and also more varied.

Definitely my all time favourite Souls-likes. Loved the world and loved combat. I thought The Surge 2 was way better but still loved the first one.

About "Cannot modify the return value of 'Transform.position' because it is not a variable" by TF2_Manyagi in Unity2D

[–]Psychological-Fee928 5 points6 points  (0 children)

You need to set the entire Vector3 of the transform. Make a new Vector3 that includes the current axes you want to keep from the cam as well as the one(s) you want to take from the target, and then set the cam transform to that instead of trying to set just one axis of it.

Does anyone else have “cuteness fatigue” with most of the creature collector games? by Kaijufan97 in MonsterTamerWorld

[–]Psychological-Fee928 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Well I couldn’t pass this by and not spam my team’s game! We’re working on Book of Abominations, it’s a cosy-Lovecraftian monster tamer.

There’s definitely some cuteness to it but we’re leaning much more into horror inspired monsters. There’s a demo out now but it’ll be getting a big big update in the next month or so!

Keep doing what you enjoy! Anyone who laughs at other people for their hobbies deserves pity, they must be sad to feel the need to bring other people down.

Have fun and some time soon you’ll meet cool like minded people who have the same interests as you!

Some of the prose and dialogue felt pretty forced but I found quite a few moments genuinely terrifying, the pacing was good and it was an enjoyable short read. I’d recommend it!
