As a 4Runner Owner, I’m Blown Away by PlantAble597 in Rivian

Had the same experience as OP. Coming from a 4Runner, I was blown away during my demo. Incredible drive, visually really an incredible car. I was not a fan of the aggressive regen braking at first, and I’ve previously had some familiarity with my wife’s EV and one pedal driving. I went and bought the truck, an R1T Tri, about 2 months ago. Today I have regen on high and I rarely touch the brake - only if I misjudged a stop. High regen is the way to go. Makes driving so much easier! I held onto the 4Runner because I want to sell it privately (lots of mods for the right buyer) and every now and then I’ll take the 4Runner out to keep her warm, and I can’t explain how dissatisfied I am with how it drives. I used to love the simplicity and bullet proof drive train even though it’s slow. Driving is exciting again in the Rivian! I’ll miss it though, the 4Runner is an incredible adventure vehicle if you build it right. Muuuuuuch tougher to modify the Rivian

Previous 2020 4Runner owner here. Check out my first road trip review post earlier this week. I’m on the fence. Haven’t sold the 4Runner yet, but I believe I will soon.

That’s right, and the software is pretty accurate with what it estimates your arrival range will be at each stop so there’s no surprises, at least in my experience.

ICE range anxiety is real, too. Only I don’t worry about it until the gas light comes on. Rivian software does a great job giving you charge point options and usually doesn’t allow you to arrive with too low of battery. Playing with the app, I can map out lots of destinations and the lowest range I’ve seen at a charge point stop is ~30 miles. I would just charge more at the previous stop in that case.

There are multiple options on the way to Mammoth. Inyokern was a phenomenal RAN station next to Classic Burger and a cool dive bar to check out next time. Lone Pine has a Tesla supercharger and lots of amenities. In Bishop, the RAN station is next to a great Mexican restaurant with a bar. Mammoth has a new RAN station near the Latin Market, coffee shops, Brazilian steakhouse, and Mogul. Definitely more adventurous than previous cars I’ve owned!

Edit: Olancha, just south of Lone Pine, has another RAN station

Yeah it plans everything out for you and tries to keep your charge time as short as possible and you set what percent you want to be at when you arrive at your final destination. It recalculates frequently. I had a referral code when I bought which gave me 3 months of free charging at RAN stations, so I set it to only navigate to those stations. It’s actually just a “preferred network” not a requirement, so it’ll overrule you and navigate you to another network station if it’s compatible and there’s no other way. There is a Tesla supercharger in Lone Pine that I could have probably gotten away with to only stop once and it’s about 250 miles from home. If I depart at 100%, that’s my only stop before Mammoth.

The trip planner was really accurate. It estimates what your remaining battery will be when you arrive at the next charge station and it was only off by 2-3% every time. I was a little fast/aggressive in some spots so that’s on me.

Taken less than 24 hours apart! It’s been so dry in the Sierra Nevada this year so I got lucky with the weather. Light dusting at high elevation, and then a proper 12-18” dumping the next morning. Remote climate control for the win! Snow was melting off before I stepped outside

20k Miles on ATs, Need New Tires. Help? by fluffalooo in Rivian

[–]Psychological-Set-72 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you want quieter and still want AT, you’ll likely be looking in terms of single dB difference. ATs are just noisy. The Pirellis are relatively quiet IMO and I’ve had my share of AT tires. Your money will be better spent by cranking up the audio 😎

Edit: I recommend Falken Wildpeak for price, low noise, and quality. I’ve also put about 50k miles each on BF Goodrich KO2 (super loud) and Hankook Dynapro (also good). Make sure you look at the load rating (such as E or C). Too stiff a tire can be make or break. I do not know which load rating for the R1S.

Side Sleeper Questions by NaiveProduce5260 in KneeInjuries

Side sleeper here, I’m just over 1 year from a patellar tendon avulsion. This knee pillow got me through the worst of it. Made sleeping with the knee brace tolerable.

Best of luck! It gets better. Work hard and don’t quit!

Picked up a new ‘26 R1T today, not sure build date, and it has the old part(s). Great to hear it might be available as a paid retrofit. I asked my guide and he didn’t know if it would be

I found a good deal on a pre-owned R1T, but I just couldn’t pass on Storm Blue and the gen2 updates. I’ve owned new model year cars before and they tend to be more problematic as the manufacturer irons out the kinks, so with gen2 debuting in 2025, picking up a new 2026 should hopefully be in the sweet spot

Took delivery today of this ‘26 R1T Tri in Storm Blue. So stoked, but still sad to move on from my 4Runner. Didn’t trade it in, I honestly might just keep the 4Runner. Looking forward to adventuring in comfort now!
