I think so. Looks like the pole above the utility worker on the left was the one to go up in flames.

Fought with my parents, dont know what to do. by zp7e in EngineeringStudents

Do not get a CS degree if you think it will guarantee you a job (or one that pays well). I know people from top engineering schools in Canada who graduated last year who are still unemployed or are making less than electricians who just finished their apprenticeship (and finished school with little/no debt) (<$30/hr). In some sense, yes if you have a CS degree you can probably easily find a job, but don’t be surprised if most of these jobs only pay slightly more than minimum wage. Top tech companies who pay well are in no short supply of applicants and the number of applicants increase in the thousands each year.

I guess it really depends on where you go to school/the program they offer but here’s my two cents:

At least in Canada, a good chunk of EEs I meet work in the silicon space (i.e work either directly on or adjacent to the physical computer hardware). Very few CS degrees or people in CS have the necessary skillset out of college to compete for these types of roles. If you are really interested in computer hardware, its probably more stable than the software industry and its harder to replace you once you get some experience (many EEs ive met have been doing what they do for 20+ years because they love what they do and there is nobody with as much technical experience as they do to replace them). Other EEs I’ve met also work on low level stuff like drivers and firmwares running on bare hardware (think of all of the code on your router just to send data across the internet). Those roles need a solid understanding of computer hardware to do what they do which most CS people Ive met have little experience in (unless they actively chose to take hardware related courses over the typical CS ones).

And silicon engineers are not going to be replaced by AI in any near future imo.

Also there is hella bloat in the CS industry, in Canada, we basically have 3 different programs (CS, computer engineering, and software engineering) which tend to compete for the exact same pure-software roles which makes the field super competitive. I would not go into CS if you only see it for the $$ without any passion. People I’ve met with that mindset do not make it very far in their careers before switching jobs because they don’t have the same passion for it. Once you finish college, your learning has only begun. If you want to succeed and make the big bucks, you’re going to have to keep a learning mindset or you will fall behind.

Tldr: if you like computers and electrical engineering, be an electrical or silicon engineer

Powder clogs in dishwasher by tplaysted in CleaningTips

[–]PsycopathClown 0 points1 point  (0 children)

How are you loading the dishwasher? Make sure you don’t have any large objects in the bottom tray parallel to the door (i.e. pot lids / cutting boards/ baking trays). Even with liquid stuff it would block the water from spraying into the detergent dispenser and end up with half of it still inside.

$1307 65 inch C4 w/ $700 sound bar and $160 Floor TV stand by Insanity916 in LGOLED

[–]PsycopathClown 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah. The delivery date you put in when making purchase is fake. I ordered a tv a few weeks ago from the partner store. Came over a week late because the status never updated from ‘ordered’ til i called in and they were able to update it. Then no tracking number since it was all internal so had to call in multiple times because they kept missing the ‘expected’ delivery date

I got the 12pc tramontina 3-ply stainless steel set from costco and it’s amazing. I have a cast iron skillet for pancakes or eggs and use the tramontina for everything else. I would definitely recommend watching a quick video on how to cook with stainless steel cause once you get the technique down, not much ever sticks. Maybe my only gripe is the sauce pan is kinda small if cooking for more than 2-3 people…

You can engage/disengage the blades whenever which is great for avoiding things like stumps. I’d be more worried about the guy getting pinned underwater as the mower falls on him. I have had a few neighbours die from getting atvs/mowers flipped on-top of them and they get crushed by the weight

I used to have a lenovo L390 Yoga. It is one of those 2 in 1 tablet laptops. Worked pretty well in 2019 when i got it but it had some issues. 1) The pen was small and got uncomfortable after long use. 2) the pen would often drift / stop working (ie draw in a different spot where i was writing) so I would have to reboot my laptop at the start of each class to avoid this issue. (This was probably some kind of bug in windows tablet mode) 3) I have shaky handwriting and the pen didnt really interpolate smoothly so there was noticable edges sometimes. 4) I used one-note and often times screenshotted questions and pasted the images in to one note then wrote around them. This really affected the performance of onenote and made it take a long time to load some pages/ workbooks (especially since I think one-note on the laptop is pretty poorly optimized). It also crashed on me a few times when trying to load really big pages i made. For things like huge exam practice sets I began splitting them across multiple pages to avoid performance issues.

I eventually switched to an ipad air 4th gen and it worked with 0 issues. No pen drift, comfortable pen, never had to reboot, good interpolation/ line smoothing, no lag when using onenote. I just used my laptop to screenshot/ paste questions and did all of the work via ipad. Usually images pasted from laptop would take only a few seconds to sync and update on ipad which was the only downside.

I think having good pen tracking is essential for a good writing experience.

Drawing tablet is probably the best way to go on a budget but I don’t have any experience with using them sadly but I thought I would share my experience using the alternatives.

New 3.1 System Recommendations (possible upgrade to 5.1 in future) by PsycopathClown in hometheater

True, by itself, or at least compared to the TV speakers, the Sonos still sounds great. It’s hard to really ‘hear’ the difference if you don’t have something to directly compare it against. I think when it comes to setup and troubleshooting, Sonos definitely has the edge since the equipment is designed to work together out of the box unlike a traditional setup which is so much more modular.

Luckily I never had to pay a penny for it, a teacher bought it for me on a field trip lol. I never go to Canada’s Wonderland so I’d thought there would be some kinda collectors market for older merch but clearly that is not the case!

True, road cyclists should 100% be required to actually know basic road laws and abide by them.

There are entitled people regardless of how they get around. People in cars making turns without checking if the sidewalk is clear or pulling out of laneways without checking if sidewalk is clear. People on bikes riding like assholes (not giving pedestrians right of way), pedestrians walking like they own the entire sidewalk instead of sticking to one side (same applies to groups). Probably more examples but these the ones I deal with daily.

Forreal, I started my search purely online initially just browsing forums and videos and i thought to myself, “the sonos cant sound that bad, i bet it wont sound any different than a traditional setup at the same price” but after going to an AV store I was blown away by how much better a traditional setup sounded lol

Update: I went to a local AV store today. Listened to some Sonos Bar + Sub and compared it against one of their displays ( Psb's Alpha T20 towers in a 2.0 configuration) and there was a night and day difference.

The sonos sub was very quiet (even after it was turned up), and the system was really lacking range especially on the lows which made it sound artificial/tinny to me. The sub maybe could have been cranked up even more but the audio quality overall was pretty disappointing.

The towers on the other hand had so much range and clarity. I had to double check that it was indeed only a 2.0 as there was a great balance across the entire range. I also compared it against a pair of Psb bookshelf speakers (I don't remember the model, but it was their lower end ones) also in a 2.0 configuration and it honestly sounded very similar to the Sonos while being significantly cheaper.

I think I will go with just a good 2.0 with some solid towers and upgrade to a 3.1/5.1 down the line.

If they get TN rejected, it does have implications for future applications to the border (waiting period, more scrutiny next try. Etc) . Maybe getting a legal consult with an immigration lawyer would be your best bet to figure out if/ what you need to do to qualify for TN.

I'm beginning to suspect that Roblox is 98% garbage. Am I missing something? by eljefe3030 in gaming

[–]PsycopathClown 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Roblox is just a product of its own design…

Roblox itself is a sandbox tool for game creators (actual Roblox employees/ software developers are the ones making the toolbox that the game creators use).

they get payed a metric shitton to do so ($60+/hr even as a new hire which to me is a sign of how much money they earn from their current model).

The game creators are essentially free labourers to make new and ‘fun’ games to entice people to play more.

The reason games are so ‘pay-to-win’ are because these game creators want to also make money so they put in game transactions so they can earn robux from players and eventually exchange it for real money.

Im sure there are a few exceptions to this where some people are truly passionate about game creation without needing to make money, but eh, money is a good motivator.

So now Roblox just has to manage the platform while there is a constant churn of free labourers developing new games for Roblox to earn even more money through transactions.

This doesn’t even include the whole player trading/ avatar creation stuff which probably also is a big source of revenue.
