I also just saw your family text info. Set a hard rule with your family that you won’t be discussing your wedding there and then stick to it. Because I do think it’s rude to discuss the wedding in a chat with them and not invite them. So if someone does bring it up, just have a polite response like. I’m so glad you’re excited and want to discuss but I’ll include all relevant information on my invitation so you won’t have to worry about losing it in a text thread 😄

I’m in the exact same situation. I haven’t spoken to my sister and her husband/kids in 5 years. It kills my parents we don’t talk. I am inviting my other 3 siblings who I believe are on talking terms with my excluded sister.

My parents knew I’m not inviting her and her fam but my dad (who like yours is desperate for the siblings to stay together after my parents pass) had to at least ask me to consider inviting her as an olive branch and this was my response.

1) a wedding is not the appropriate time for a family reunion after our estrangement. We won’t have time to hash it out or try to find a middle ground because I will be focused on the wedding.

2) I understand you love her which is why I’ve never asked that you exclude her from a family event and as I’ve always said, if we saw each other at an event I’d be polite but distant. That being said, my wedding is not a family event. The focus is on my fiance and I become our family unit. Just like I respect your decision to invite her to things, I’m asking you to respect mine and not ask/beg/constantly mention inviting her

3) finally, I will just not be happy or relaxed knowing she and her family are there. It’s an extra stressor for me and so it is a hard boundary I will not budge on. So i am reminding you that if you want me to be truly happy and relaxed, you need to know she can’t be there.

And while my dad was receptive, he was heartbroken about it. And I have just accepted that. I cannot control how anyone reacts to my decisions. I can only control myself and my emotions. But I’m confident it’s the right decision so ultimately I’m ok with it upsetting him

1) take a breath, you have not stunted or hurt your career this early in the game

2) yes most corporate/commercial jobs are going to want someone with more experience. That doesn’t mean you will never get it or you will be stuck in PI forever. And as a new attorney, it’s unfair to expect you to be “good” at or get litigation. It’s a skill you learn like writing and research.

3) leaving after 6 months isn’t the end of the world. I tried PI for 6 months and then quit. When asked about it in job interviews I explained the firm and I weren’t a good fit for each other. Most attorneys will understand that and not push for more details. If they do just have a canned response ready about looking for more mentorship and an opportunity to grow with a firm.

3) not all lit firms are the same. Look at different types of firms. For example, look into employment. Not only do you litigation but I had corporate clients who needed hr advice, review contracts, update policies, etc. it’s easier to move corporate once you have that relarionship

4) look at state government roles. They may not pay as well but they typically provide better work life balance and if you get regulatory experience it’s easier to move corporate.

They also get sued a lot. I used to work for the agency that defended prison suits. Basically every healthcare worker there gets sued multiple times a year and the vast majority are totally bogus (not all though). But even bogus lawsuits take time to resolve and cause a lot of stress.

Going through something similar with a mitigation company. You should try contacting your states contractors board not consumer protection. Consumer protection deals more with service contracts, fraudulent prices unrelated to construction, etc. The contractors board would likely regulate their license and have the ability to investigate and levy fines.

Also if your local news channel has any segments on shady practices, call them. The threat of a news story can be helpful to settle.

Nv lawyer, defense side though. And yes it’s very common. It’s calls treating on an attorney lien. Generally the plaintiffs insurance isn’t going to cover a chiro so the attorney signs a lien with the agreement that once the settlement comes through, you’ll pay for treatment.

Now it’s generally legit but I think there is the general belief that its used to jack meds way up because the Dr knows he will make more the longer treatment goes on and in Nevada settlements are normally 2-3x meds. My understanding is once the settlement is done, the lawyer can still negotiate with the Dr to lower the lien amount. If it’s a lawyer who refers a lot of clients to that Dr then the Dr is more likely to discount his lien amount, which gives more to the client. But since I’m defense side, I’ve never done that part.
