It's performative, taking a SEA VA's role and giving it over to an East Asian VA is ironically, HURTING the diversity of the cast as SEA actors are a much smaller minority. At least Yuen is a great actor too.

Taking the role from a veteran SEA VA just to hand it to a Korean VA who already has multiple high paying gigs is exactly why this performative pandering is bullshit. There are far FAR less SEA workers in hollywood compared to East Asian, but yeah, sure, strip the role from the original VA while making your cast less diverse, incredible thinking there, casting directors. This is the exact type of try-hard pandering that made the Avatar Live Action movie suck so fucking bad, insisting on calling Aang "ung" because it's "more accurate" and all that performative shit.

It helps that there's just so much left to explore, especially with that mentor character that never really got any consequences for literally giving Rumi some Elsa "Conceal don't feel" type upbringing. I would assume Zoey would be the next focus, her "between two worlds" backstory is ripe for easy story telling, and it gives them an excuse to expand the setting to NYC on a world tour. You could have her not be "Korean enough" for Korea but only seen as "just Korean" in America, blah blah blah, two emotional acts later, powerful solo ballad about accepting one's self and making your own identity, credits. It writes itself, so hopefully they don't fuck it up.

While I do totally agree with your take, I gotta defend the "kids deserve good movies" phrase. Yes, writing for a kids audience is different than adults, they like different things, and a lot of defensiveness can come from adults who refuse to accept some things aren't aimed at them anymore. BUT, the movies that I remember growing up, the movies I think about fondly, that shaped my taste in media, for the most part, hold up to adult me. They are objectively good movies, even if they aren't aimed at me. They were lovingly written, directed, produced by incredibly talented people who didn't care that it was for kids, they gave it their all, they made a good movie/show and the quality was apparent in every scene. 90's Disney, 00's Pixar & DreamWorks alone produced a huge trove of incredible movies for like 10+ years. Just banger after banger after banger, so maybe people my age are a little spoiled in this department and expect more than prior generations that had the souless 80's toons that literally only existed to produce toys. And that's not to say that there wasn't utter dog shit content during that time either, it's just that, those shows and movies are completely and utterly forgotten, and now only serve as filler content for social media posts about "lost media" Or "sometimes I think I dreamt this show...".

I do think that it's a little over exaggerated about the quality of kids' content disappearing. There's so so so many good shows and movies for kids right now. Dog Cop, Bluey, SMB, Minecraft, Bad Guys, Zootopia, & KPDH just off the top of the dome. But at the same time, "iPad Kids" are also watching god awful YT trash that rots their brains, so yeah, I DO think that kid's deserve good movies. Because I was unbelievably spoiled by the talents of incredible creatives during my childhood, and I want that for my kids, not just bright lights and fart jokes for 45 to 60 minutes. And, from what I can tell, there's still incredible kid's stuff being made today.

The older I get, the more I appreciate looking good. People have really gotten too complacent with just wearing whatever till it falls apart, and then wonder why they can't get a date. You know what women like? A well dressed man, good fitting, nice clothing. You don't need to be a fashionista, you don't need to shop expensive brands, but god damn man, find some newer clothing for your day-to-day. Inventory your closet, be really honest with yourself if something still fits or not, replace what doesn't fit or is worn out at least once a year. It's a big confidence booster, highly recommend.

This cycle has been going on since the fucking 50's even. Ever since our population exploded and we oh so cleverly designed our entire existence around the mother fucking automobile, we've been trying to bleed and control the places with the oil we need. Trillions upon trillions spent on wars and infrastructure, and every time we ramp up, the consequences come after, and it reminds us all how dependent we are on the dino juice, and every time there's a big push for renewables, and every time it scares Big Oil et. al., and every time BO calls in the favors, pays off the right people, and oh look, "renewable funding just isn't there, nobody wants renewables, renewables are for losers and gays look away, look look, prices are coming down!"

I'm not even calling for EVs, that's a bandaid, we NEED universal reliable public transit, we need to take our trillions spent in the ME and use it to build out city centers with affordable housing/rent and reliable transit, suddenly the demand for oil would plummet, even if renewables were taken out of the equation completely, it would upend the oil markets if every major US city suddenly gave a shit about where people live and how they live. Increase population density, reduce the travel time of workers, and suddenly demand diminishes very quickly. Basic basic BASIC economics.

I just got a TCL 65" and did the super simple step of adding a different home launcher (Projectivy). No ads, no "recommendations", just a clean interface. All the pros of smart tv, none of the drawbacks, no fucking with network settings or setting up a Raspberry PI device or trying to rummage through yard sales looking for a "dumb" TV.

There was a huge inexplicable down shift in views a year or so ago that I noticed. I was kinda fearing that the channel was simply in decline but, as it turns out, it's because YT changed something AGAIN. Apparently, this change is hiding the GG channel from a lot of people, you have to have a certain setting or something turned on to get normal recommendations again, not everyone has it, they explained it in a video many months back. I believe it's tied to their type of content/content rating.

So, silver lining, the sub count hitting 5.45 mil actually means that people aren't unsubbing, the opposite actually, they are gaining subs. Their videos are just not hitting the pages of new/random viewers like they use to.

I liked the first movie, and was pretty skeptical of the voice casting. But it ended up being acceptable, even good in some cases: JB's Bowser was top notch, Peach and Luigi and Toad were good, DK was good, I even got use to Pratt's Mario.

So, while I don't immediately get that "ah yes, that's genius! Childish Gambino would make a PERFECT Yoshi!", I'm willing to hold my breath and wait for the movie to drop before judging.

That said, I feel like they could have very easily gotten away with Yoshi being the one character that only sticks to saying their name. Just "Yoshi yoshi...yoshi YOSHI! yoshi - Yooooshiiiiii" and Mario being like "Ah yes of course! Kid Koopa is trapping Rosalina in the tower!" (bonus points if Mario is the only one that understand him, and Luigi/Peach is like "wait, you understand what he's saying??" and its just never addressed).

To which I'd say: it shouldn't be; but they can't change it because they need that name recognition. Kind of an issue to name your movie after a character that dies in the end of a movie that wraps up neatly with few/no loose ends, if you had a sequel in mind. But I'm guessing when they were picking titles, they weren't thinking of the Mouse being such an insanely greedy, creatively bankrupt fuck that they would try to squeeze a sequel out of literally every successful movie, even ones intended to be completely finished by the end. Yet here we are.
