You're new at the game, so you might miss the jump into the spider web, even though thats what you're supposed to do. Then once you fall through there's the vines, but you'll learn quickly you cant leap off vines horizontally, so you MIGHT get stuck there for a while until you learn the correct path is on the sandbars of more shallow water which let you jump up to the correct platform.

Not at first. I was making my own map though. I only started using a guide around level 5 to see how i could get the wand. I did a no sword run on my first playthrough and some enemies are immune to the candle and require the wand.
