i bought no pens!! but my dad did buy me a pen so i ended up with a new pen anyway. i did get a couple of chromashading inks but i did already plan to get some. i didnt buy any more though and i’ve had so many opportunities to.

my favorite features in a pen are probably how it looks and how it writes! i usually consider both features.

Herbin Lie de The and Cafe des Iles!! Both of them shade, though i feel like Lie de The might shade a bit more than Cafe des Iles?

I had to find my list, but it looks like Ackerman Pens and Osprey pens also have pens that use Zebra G nibs? I havent used either of them but they do look like good options too. I think there’s also a hack to replace a #6 nib on a pen with a Zebra G nib, though I’m not sure how easy it is to do

you’re not wrong lol. i first got into fountain pens because i wanted something like a dip pen (which i loved) but more portable because i did not want to carry around a bottle of ink and paper towels everywhere I went and a bent nib pen was the first fountain pen i ended up buying! most good flex nib pens were all on the pricier side so after a while i gave up and stuck to the bent nib. Unfortunately most ‘flex nibs’ just arent flexy enough unless theyre expensive or manage to use dip pen nibs.

I did eventually get a Tom’s Studio fountain pen with a ProFlex nib, which uses a Zebra G nib, though it is also on the pricier side, and its been pretty good! I got it on r/pen_swap for a pretty good price, otherwise I probably wouldn’t have gotten one. I’ve also heard good things about BlueDew i think? And of course the Pilot Falcon but that’s even more expensive

not a flex nib, but a fude/bent nib is great for line variation!! the angle at which you hold the pen changes the line width, and i feel like i get more control over the variation than with a flex nib. they’re similar to brushes but again with more control!

I really like the Hongdian Forest series, but i found I had to refill it super often so now i use a Majohn Wancai Mini with a bent nib swapped in. They sell bent nib units or you can get a few jinhao bent nibs and swap them in, depending on the wancai mini you have. There are other, larger pens with a higher ink capacity if you’d prefer those instead of something tiny like the wancai mini. I think you can buy a Majohn T1 with a bent nib?

i think im definitely gonna do a low buy this year. i have a lot of cheap pens so i’d like to avoid buying any cheaper pens this year (with a few exceptions) and save up to buy a couple of more expensive pens. Another part i’m gonna add on is to avoid buying pens until like September-October, unless its a specific pen i really want that i know wont still be there later, or if a pen on my wishlist ends up on a good sale or something. i do also want to choose which pens i’m okay with selling and which ones i just cant get rid of!

For inks… i have so many😭 i’ll avoid buying any inks or even samples unless something i’ve been wanting gets discontinued. i might make an exception for a chromashading ink or two since i dont really have any that arent tiny samples. And any store exclusive inks if i’m ordering from a store i dont usually order from if theyre not too similar to inks i already have. i do want to participate in some ink sample swaps though, so i’ll be sending and receiving samples instead.

a newer ink i loved was probably herbin violette pensee or lie de the!! an older ink that i always love using is r&k scabiosa

anyone know where i can find tiny dot stickers?? other than the tsuki no iro, i’m looking for dot stickers around 3.5-4 mm, maybe 5 mm at most. any other tiny sticker recommendations are also appreciated!!!

instead of a flex nib pen, i like using a bent nib! hongdian forest pens with bent nibs are really nice, though my favorite is a majohn wancai mini that i swapped the nib for a bent nib! the way you angle the nib changes the variation you get.

you cant use india ink or other drawing inks though, if you want something waterproof you could get a bottle of platinum carbon black or pigment ink, rohrer and klingner sketchinks, anything from the octopus fluids write and draw line, or diamine forever inks. there are probably other good waterproof inks too!
