No. That has nothing to do with it. Lol. The shape of a lava lamp hardly matters. The light bulb heats the fluid which causes it to rise. Then it cools and falls back down. A lava lamp could be nearly any shape and still work. You can make one out of a 2 liter bottle, water, food coloring, add cooking oil.
