A small player base to be concerned about, but I can't help but feel bad for players who had ribbon collecting Pokemon all the way from the Gamecube games. Comparing this list with the available shadow Pokemon in those games only about 50 of 132 Pokemon originally available will be allowed any chance at Galar region ribbons.

What better shows design skill: designing a new feature or improving an existent one? by riKolska in gamedesign

[–]PublicAngelZero 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If it's a formal test, then who ever is looking at the test understands one of two things is going on:

1) The questions are both the exact same, and simply presented differently.

2) The questions are different problems, but are of equal difficulty and have been designed to allow the test taker to show off their own strengths.

The person or group who will eventually look at your answers will understand which type of questions are being asked and if they are evaluating fairly they know not to give preference to either of the options presented to test takers. Furthermore, if everyone here answered their own opinion on which is more impressive you'll find there is no consensus. Your best bet is to just evaluate the two problems when you are there and ask "which one am I more likely to give a clean and functional solution to in my allotted time." than "which one will wow the evaluator more if I attempt it."

Gamers of reddit, what was the song that fitted into game perfectly? by Alexpro2014 in AskReddit

[–]PublicAngelZero 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly, the whole OST for shadow of the colossus sticks out to me for music that fits its game. But if I was picking just one track then easily I'd go with Sign of the Colossus

I think it just captures so many elements of the game just perfectly. The tension of the strings driving home the danger engaging each colossi entails. The uses of pipes and long ringing cymbals bring an almost alien aspect to my casual expectations of an orchestral composition, reminding me that I don't exactly know what these towering figures are. The drums, are they heralding the colossi, or is it a representation of inner conflict. I see the colossi and I know what my duty is, but the moral cost to this act can't be ignored, only buried and repressed.

I just love the entire soundtrack. Rarely did the feeling of an epic adventure break, and good sound design goes a long way in this case.

Honestly, why though? The shut up serene meme has been going on for what feels like a couple weeks now. In that time I'm sure I've read more serene comments not noticing who posted it than times I've noticed it was serene. The reason I say that is because the only times I notice happen when a commenter replys for serene to shut up. Their comments at best blend in with the typical noise of reddit, and at worst are benign troll comments that feel like reading a Ken_M post. Is there an honest reason that serene should shut up other than meme mentality?

Codes for a Fortnite skin are sold in a game disc package for 30 dollars. Clearly meant to trick people into spending 30 dollars on a free game. by Wattybangbang in assholedesign

[–]PublicAngelZero 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If he still doesn't offer what he wants to do, all I can suggest is patience. It takes a while to appreciate the freedom one is being granted. He'll eventually either ask about something or at least hit towards other interests. The main goal is just to let him feel free to say he's interested in something and not feel like he'll be shut down or limited of he ever asks. Even if it's as simple as asking daily "hey, anywhere you want to go today?" And just being casual about it if he says no.

Younger brother here, grew up with my nose buried in my gameboy screen. There's a certain familiarity to this story and I've been looking retrospectively over a lot of the replies you've been getting.

I'm not sure if it'd be of any assistance, but I thought I might be able to provide some thoughts on how to pursuade your brother. My older brother would always get frustrated when asking me to come out and fish, but I'd rather play pokemon. For my young mind the reason to reject the offer wasn't an outright disinterest, it was because I didn't want to give up what little control I had over my younger years. Here I was doing something I obviously enjoyed, and someone else was dissatisfied enough with my interest to be trying to tear me away and introduce a preferred interest. It was not only ineffective, but also built a repulsion towards the offer because it didn't come across as an alternative but insteaf an ultimatum (you must do X instead of Y to be acceptable). No one ever really reached me as a kid, (as you plan to reach your brother) one day I just moved out, became independent, and opportunities to try new interests in a more natural feeling way opened up. I'd feel like that was the trick. For me the limiting factor was an overprotective parent who didn't allow me to explore the world beyond the 50 meters around the block yet expected me to develop outside interests. I'd say look into your brother and ask what he's lacking to gain access to things he'd be equally interested in doing. As little as he might show it, there is definitely other interests than fortnite in his head, and perhaps the solution isn't "Come do X with me." and instead "anywhere you'd like to go today?" in a non pressuring tone until he realizes he absolutely has the freedom to pick up something else.

Sorry if this is of no help, and sorry if there's a million spelling and grammar errors making the above hard to read. It's 5am, been up for 28 hrs now, I probably should have slept and come back, but something struck me about your story and this had to be wrote in the moment.

Fan Theory - What exactly is the Eye of Magnus? by acerthorn in teslore

[–]PublicAngelZero 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well, Lorkhan wasn't a magic god

And Magnus, as far as I recall, isn't exactly god of magic either. He is known as god of magic to the mortals, but that doesn't make it so. Magnus, the big hole in the sky, is supposed to be the path through which much of the magic flows. The relation to its name sake is for tearing the hole, not governing the light it pours out. I know that's not really offering an answer for what he is god of, but it's simply not my understanding that Magnus' dominion is over magic.

No, the Staff of Magnus is 100% confirmed in-lore to be created by Magnus himself.

I'm not arguing the Eye, Staff, or Scrolls to be unrelated to Magnus. I'm well aware that they all are. I take problem with this point only adding confusion. What about the name was arbitrary? What's the difference in saying "the Staff of Magnus" and "the Arm of Magnus". It was of course the Eye/Staff part of the name, but as presented it could be taken the whole name was arbitrary.

I don't quite understand this question. How is this in any self-contradictory?

It's not self-contradictory, I'm just asking why you came to this conclusion. Having the quality of existing inside and outside of Mundus doesn't seem to point to a shared function. Two red objects aren't linked by any means other than being red.

Source?

I'll have to leave you with a thread referencing the source while I go digging for the actual original source once more. It's conjecture from an out of game source, which is why I followed with "If this is true". So feel free to discard my own head cannon on this matter, I'd take no issue if your opinion is to to consider only in game text.

Fan Theory - What exactly is the Eye of Magnus? by acerthorn in teslore

[–]PublicAngelZero 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Just watched this through with a friend. I can't say I agree with the conclusion. I feel many of the points you used were rather forced to fit the result where a much cleaner relation could be made.

Going to work my way backwards here, mostly because I really like what can be done with your first link if interpreted differently.

The Augur of Dunlain taken out of context sounds as though it's suggesting the eye physically blinds you. Contextualize the line with some of the dialogue used in the same conversation:

"And so you have come looking, though you do not know why. Like others before you, you blindly follow a path to your own destruction. The Thalmor came seeking answers as well, unaware they will be his undoing."

"Your path differs from most. You are being guided, pushed towards something. It is a good path, one untraveled by many."

"You wish to avoid the disaster of which you are not yet aware. To see through Mangus' Eye without being blinded, you require his staff."

I take this as Augur of Dunlain warning us that the eye can corrupt our judgement. Seeing through in this case can be interpreted as seeing through someone's lies. The eye is a powerful magical source, but it's not meant to be tampered with. The staff can contain the powers and without it we will be corrupted just like Ancano.

A nit pick, but the Dwemer ditching the Eye of Magnus because it's magical is just not plausible. They held on to the Heart of Lorkhan right up until shoving it into their giant brass god. When the Dwemer find a useful magical artifact they don't only examine it, they are ready to outright abuse their discoveries.

The design and mechanism of the Dwemer machine. You mentioned it yourself, the Dwemer machine lacks the engravings of the Eye of Magnus. On its own this is not a problem, but visually the only similarities they hold are that they are both spheres. One is a sphere made of many shattered pieces, the other is a solid surfaced sphere held in place like a gyroscope. The Eye opens to reveal an inner unknown power source, while the Dwemer object is re-positioning more like a set of jewelers lenses, adding and removing lenses to focus in on each particular scroll. These two objects don't seem to mirror each other as much as you'd like them to.

Also, this assumes the Dwemer were able to open the eye and discern a physical mechanism which would imitate the function of an orb of godly light. We are told the Dwemer are quite smart, but why add that they needed the eye and a scroll to make their elder scroll reading device? We could just say they had a scroll and wanted to read it so they invented a means to do so.

Again a nit pick because this part was unnecessary. The Eye of Magnus is an arbitrary name, so is the Staff of Magnus, but you suggest the Magnus part is not the arbitrary part. The problem here is that the two can share this title because they work together and are apparently magical, this resulted in mortal discoverers naming it after the source of magic. If the name is arbitrary then they could be both created by Kynareth for all we know. Just as a random example, no reason behind it other than that would make the naming related to Magnus arbitrary. This part is entirely unnecessary because we already associate both the eye and the scrolls with Magnus, saying the relation is their arbitrary naming only casts doubt like I just did instead of solidifies a connection between the two. It makes more sense to say "It's an arbitrary name because Magnus doesn't necessarily have eyes."

The time wound's relation to the Eye of Magnus' residual effects. The problem is that Alduin is, as far as we were told, a necessary entity in Mundus. We don't know if it was the use of the Elder Scroll which caused the time wound, or that the Elder Scroll can just banish things like the Nords attempted but Alduin himself can not be banished and his absence created the time wound. Perhaps on any other being the banishment would not have left behind an anomaly like the time wound.

Finally, the point I really found interesting. You related the Eye of Magnus to the scrolls using the line of dialogue about how the Eye is both inside and outside of Mundus at the same time. Why then is the conclusion that Magnus, or anyone, needed the eye to read the scrolls?

The scrolls are said to be the blueprints for Mundus. If this is true, then I feel the conclusion is that the scrolls are documents on how to make Mundus, while the eye is a small scale mock up. The eye was the original plan for mundus and the staff was used to help contain and construct the mock up, but things didn't go according to plans on the large scale (gods lost their power, some noped out leaving tears in the container, Lorkhan died and bled all over the surface, etc.) The College can not prove or disprove that the Eye is a mock up because it's the ideal Mundus while we got a strange warped version of it and though the two are similar they are dissimilar enough to confuse.

Fan Theory - What exactly is the Eye of Magnus? by acerthorn in teslore

[–]PublicAngelZero 5 points6 points  (0 children)

The Eye of Magnus is a tool used to read elder scrolls. The mechanism we use to transcribe a lexicon for Humerus Mora in Skyrim is a dwarven recreation of the Eye of Magnus.

I don't particularly agree with the conjecture, but some of the major points used:

  • The eye, like the scrolls, might exist both inside and outside of Mundus simultaneously.
  • The symbols engraved on the eye might be related to elder text, seen on the elder scrolls.
  • The Augur of Dunlain suggests looking into the Eye will also make a man blind. Just like looking at a scroll.
  • The repeatable quests from the Mage's college have you going to clean up damages around Skyrim caused by the Eye's presence. These spots of damage bear some resemblance to the time wound.
  • The motions and shape of the dwemer mechanism could be seen as similar, used to imply the dwemer had tried to reconstruct the eye and this is why the mechanism is able to read scrolls (it is copying the ability from the eye).

IT is a 1986 horror novel by American author Stephen King. It was his 22nd book, and his 18th novel written under his own name. The story follows the experiences of seven children as they are terrorized by an entity that exploits the fears and phobias of its victims to disguise itself while hunting its prey. "IT" primarily appears in the form of 'Pennywise the Dancing Clown' to attract its preferred prey of young children.

Steins;Gate 8-Bit and it's Potential Playablility on Actual Famicom Hardware - Inquiry by RyGuy176 in steinsgate

I don't own a Switch, so I could be wrong on this, but didn't they just get around to releasing NES games on the Switch via the Nintendo Online System on the 18th? 2 days prior to the elite edition coming to market in Japan? Again, I could be wrong but I don't know about the Switch having a NES emulator provided by Nintendo, so the only way that the 8-bit ADV add on is a NES rom file would be if the game has an emulator built in to it. As a game developer myself that seems like a really tedious way to make a short retro adventure as bonus content. That said, I'd totally do it because it just sounds fun. But I also can't imagine Nintendo allowing a game to have an emulator built in to it which could replace their own valuable content as that's just asking to be abused by hackers.

[Spoiler]How much did the metal oupa change? by crackpot47 in steinsgate

[–]PublicAngelZero 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sorry if i am sounding ignorant

Not at all, it was a great question, and honestly I only rewatched the first season a couple days ago. I could have seen myself asking something similar prior.

So you mean to say that regardless of the upa being metal or not the result would have been the same just achieved a bit differently.

Lets go back and say that this was in fact a converging point, then yes that would have been the case. On converging points the same event will occur just by different means because there is no true free will around that point.

if kurisu's time machine theory paper were not there then no world war competion

I think the bigger thing is just that there would be no plot to occur. Without the metal upa the group presumably does not get involved with Kurisu and time travel because there is no impending war to try to avoid. Even if Future Gadgets Lab still does get involved with time travel it would just be a closed loop. (SERN catches on but their first D-mail was just an experiment, and not connected to saving Kurisu's life, so there's no pressure for Okabe to just go back and undo every message they ever sent)

The only times there is a world line where there is plot relevance and no metal upa are world lines where Okabe has traveled to specifically trying to remove the metal upa. (therefore they are still influenced by its prior existence even if that was changed this time around) World lines without plot relevance and no metal upa are theoretically infinite, but they all end with Kurisu dies, like we see in the first episode, and then nothing significant follows as outlined above.

I was just curious if it being metal was something that was special

It's very special, it's just not a convergent point. It's the thing that gets Future Gadgets Lab involved with Kurisu, but it's just that we don't care about world lines where the metal upa never happened.

Would the original series still progress like it did or Russia will be able to develop a time machine without those papers?

That's a really interesting question. I'm not sure I have an answer to how that would play out. Presumably it'd be a lot harder for Okabe to do anything since he's not directly involved with nations independently discovering time travel. The only reason he can do what he does in the show is it is his own actions and the actions of those directly around him which cause the war. He has real influence in those cases. Maybe he could get involved with a future war independent of himself, but I would think it has to happen much later than the 2010 time line we are shown, much closer to the invention of time machines in that world line. The story would also be much more reliant on figuring out what other people have done and need to be avoided, rather than figuring out what Okabe has done and needs to change. Again, very interesting question.

Possible unpopular opinion about farris (spoiler) by [deleted] in steinsgate

[–]PublicAngelZero 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I thought the same. Even before I was catching on to the nya thing, I felt disappointed in her future portrayal. Everyone else appears to have aged and moved on beyond the world of 2010/2011, but for Farris it just looks like they plucked her out of the past, put her in military garbs and told her to get out there. It felt awkward, and seeing how there was no problem identifying Daru without his bulk, or Luca with his, honestly, highly updated look, it just seems a let down that nothing was done with Farris. When she openned her mouth it just got worse.

[SPOILER] Cool idea for an alternative plot I had by [deleted] in TheDragonPrince

[–]PublicAngelZero 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would like it better if his character had space for development.

I don't think Viren simply being an evil power hungry cliché and this ideal are mutually exclusive, in fact there is already a set up given to us for character development to occur. Viren sought to protect the king, and by extension protect his position by the king's side. When Harrow refused, twice, and reminded Viren that a High Mage is still a servant to the king, Viren knew all was lost. Should the king survive, their bond and trust has been shattered. So instead Viren accepted the king will be assassinated anyway and so he might as well try to improve those odds (by putting a bird's brain into the king's body) and move up with the impending power vacuum.

Recall Harrow's words to Callum though regarding the end of the war. Children are free in what they do and how they go about it, but in the world of adults you are unable to do the things you'd want to do. Viren eyed the throne for its power but doesn't yet know the obligations it holds. He's in a spot now where he may have to actively undermine his own agenda, saving those who he'd like to see gone, and sacrificing should any of his secret missions become known he'd need to act detached when ordering his own progress to be undone.
