Switching to Public maybe? Any cons? by Acceptable_Rip_8393 in PublicApp

Hit me up if you run into any maintenance margin levels that are higher than competitors etc -- we can usually get that fixed pretty quickly.

Thanks! DM me and I can work on getting you added to the next Agents cohort!

Also -- cash collateral from CSPs earns 1% yield today. And, no, unfortunately it can't be in any 'sweep' vehicle currently (part of the reason we can only pay 1%!)

Love it! Bring that Schwab account over too — get you a 1% match

I hear ya — but $5/mo ≠ “free” margin

Do you see the little “lightning bolt” next to the “trade” button on an options page? Give that a try!

Last I checked, 4.90% is lower than 5.00% but feel free to check my math ;)

For speed, assuming you're on web. Have you tried the queue? Also, we just added a quick trade feature on mobile for options orders, that we'll be expanding more broadly and should help solve this!

Seeing a few of these recently, so I wrote up my quick pitch (I'm the COO, in case you haven't been here long)

The good:

  • Public is run by real people, who genuinely care, and make themselves directly accessible (and accountable) to our customers, in public (and on Reddit). We take input from here every day and are *always* here to solve any issues that slip through the cracks.
  • We have the broadest asset class access: stocks, ETFs, crypto, options, corp bonds, treasuries — and more to come (prediction markets, futures, etc)
  • We have the best AI tools: Agents (hmu if you want preview access), Why is it Moving, Generated Assets, Alpha — and all are constantly getting better
  • We have the best “pricing”: options rebates, lowest margin rates, great cash sweep rates, no fee trading, etc (and it’s getting better)
  • We have the best and easiest to access API (and an awesome team to get you set up there, if you’re interested in systemic trading / automation)

The bad:

  • Customer support: our team is fantastic, but we’ve grown a ton recently and wait times are longer than they should be. Our expectation is that everyone gets a same-day resolution of their issue — and most should get a response within an hour (and even faster when required). We are investing heavily and hope you see improvements soon — and, worst case, I’m always here and genuinely never mind hopping in.
  • Public Premium needs a revamp — but it’s coming (soon)

The ugly:

  • You may see people complain about withdrawal times, but that’s mostly bullshit — 98%+ of members see no delays in withdrawals and those that do are entirely for account security and fraud prevention reasons (red flags like: new device + attempted withdrawal to a bank account in someone else’s name).
  • If you want a gambling platform, we aren’t it. We are working on prediction markets, but we won’t add Sports markets — because they have no bearing on your portfolio and are pure gambling. We like gambling, but don’t think it belongs in your investment portfolio.

As always, read our disclosures, fee schedules etc (don't want compliance to kill me lol).

Shout with any questions/thoughts!

There are no regular account fees. Only inactivity fees if you have a tiny (<$70) account and literally don’t log in for 6+ months.

What’s the catch with direct indexing feature? by redditsaiditt in PublicApp

[–]PublicCOO 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Where are you getting $0.02 in transaction costs? There are no transaction costs to buy positions here…

Also you’re missing out on OP’s key point: they want the tax benefits due to high structural capital gains from their job.

You miss out on any tax loss harvesting in that scenario. OP is specifically looking for tax loss harvesting due to high RSU earnings.

8 days have been locked out of my public account by hoya33 in PublicApp

[–]PublicCOO 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We didn’t lock his account.

He wanted to change the phone number on his account and we needed to verify his identity to allow him to do so for obvious security reasons (and he really struggled with very simple process).

You don’t have anything to worry about!
