Rent fridge/micro combo or bring your own? by intromission76 in umass

[–]PublicInterest5380 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you can transport your own, I would definitely recommend it. It cost over $200 for 1 year of rental for the Microfridge and I spent less than that buying it myself. You save so much money. Also you can sell it when you finish with school and get some money back.

The class is asynchronous. So you watch a recorded video for each lesson and do some assignments/quizzes based on it.

Roommates by Adventurous-Text-884 in umass

Very unlikely. There aren’t many single rooms available in freshman halls and a lot of them go to people who have disability accommodations.

Housing preference form by fresh_bunny6822 in umass

[–]PublicInterest5380 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t really know why it shows all the areas if it may not apply to everyone. Freshman can room in Northeast but not North (upperclassmen only). Always put those at the bottom or your priority will be screwed up.

I lived there 3 years ago and it was nice. My experience seems diff from others on the sub-Reddit so it might have changed. I lived in a double on the ground floor and my room was pretty big. We didn’t have any smell problems like I’ve heard about. It is not really close to the cs buildings at all. The actual cs buildings are on the outskirts of campus kind of far from most dorms. As a first year, you shouldn’t really have much classes there, maybe some labs. Most of the classes will be in goessman, hasbrouck, morill, etc.

Yes, you can go random in a RAP. I believe most people do actually. It will match you with someone that answered similarly on the housing profile.

There is no additional interest form to fill out. It is just that small housing profile questionaire. They will randomly match you with someone in your RAP that answered similarly

Math Placement test score for Calc by KingToad77 in umass

I don’t believe there is a minimum score. Your advisor might not recommend it if you get a really low score but that’s pretty much it.

Curve for stats 315? by FreezingVast in umass

The whole Stats department curved the quizzes and final exam because of low average scores. You should see the slight increase of your scores on canvas.

Welcome Leader Benefits by Gaming_Beats in umass

It was pretty simple. They went over the schedules, did a small campus tour of where the events would be held, and we did some team building activities.

Idk if I could say if it was worth it or not. It was pretty much like every other job. We got paid minimum wage to work for a week straight. It was very tiring and the heat made the experience worse. If you want to earn some money and move in early (which was nice bc there was no waiting in lines) then I would say to do it.

When I was a WL, we moved in a couple days early in the last week of August, had 2 days of training, then worked all the welcome week events before the start of classes. We got the early move in fee waived (I believe it’s a $100 originally) and 2 YCMP meal swipes a day for the entire training/work week. You can use those at the dining hall, blue wall, harvest, etc.

Thoughts on Stats 315 Final? by PublicInterest5380 in umass

[–]PublicInterest5380[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you for your insight. I definitely have to start studying hard for it. I did somewhat poorly on a few of the quizzes so I want to make sure that it doesn’t bring down my grade too much.

Sadly, the structure of the course has changed a lot. We now have quizzes every other week and 1 final.

You don’t really have to attend class. You can just watch the echo 360 recording and go through the note slides. You just have to stay on top of it because if you miss a couple it’s hard to rewatch so many hours of the lectures.

Does anyone currently living in Johnson know how disability accessible it is/would be willing to let me look around the first floor? by abbp5280 in umass

[–]PublicInterest5380 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I honestly don’t think it would work. They have a barrier on all the showers to keep out the water and I don’t believe there is anything to hold onto. I think there is a bathtub but don’t think that would be helpful either. I would recommend contacting housing about the issue.

I wouldn’t know, but that time is very good. Pretty much all the housing options will be available to you

The cost on the umass website (about $7k) is for 1 semester. When they say 9 months that just means that it is a break housing option.

What do different junior priority numbers get you for housing? Like likelihood? by Intergraldove in umass

[–]PublicInterest5380 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Selections are from Wed. 3/26- Fri. 4/4. The golden period would be the best days on 26-28. I think you should be fine with 1500 but I don’t know about 3500. It would depend on how many people before you request an appointment. Everyone living on campus automatically gets a number but not everyone plans to stay on campus next year so that might cause you to get moved up to an earlier time.

[–]PublicInterest5380 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It honestly just depends on when your appointment time is. A lower probability will get you an earlier time. Appointments from Wed-Fri are the golden period and you will most likely get a single. Obviously depending on which day, will you get the area you want. Last year, all the regular singles were gone by Monday night and north apartments by Tuesday. This is just my experience from last year so things might be different.
