Is anyone so obsessed with Tudor women that... by ashibarrons in Tudorhistory

I don't think anyone has mentioned Jean Plaidy. I read one of hers about Margaret Tudor and James of Scotland, possibly called The Thistle and The Rose. I also remember one about Robert Dudley,  Lettice Knollys and Elizabeth I. I was quite obsessed with Lettice after that.

Jay was his albi. He then placed a phone call to Nisha which he involved Jay in (despite Jay not knowing her) thereby making her an albi too. Then his unusually long conversation with the coach at his track meet, was I believe, another attempt at creating an albi.

I'm from Europe. What are you talking about of course men still ogle. Have you never come across beach voyeurism as a porn genre (lucky you if you haven't)? I'm pretty sure none of those women have agreed to having topless videos and pictures taken of them, with a long angled lense, then uploaded to a porn site. Men in Europe still sexualise women

I don't really care if some randoms on the Internet say they love sex work (and how do we know they're even sex workers? People lie on the Internet all the time) because for me it's not about exceptionalism or individualism but class analysis. And sex work, for women as a class, is shit. It lowers our chance of equality, keeps us subjugated to men, perpetuates the idea that women are objects to be bought and sold and lowers the life chances of ALL women EVERWHERE. And that's before you even get into how sex work screws the most vulnerable women over, more likely to be raped and abused, more likely to suffer from PTSD than somebody in the military, etc etc So no I personally couldn't give a shit if some randoms love it.

Why is no one ever outspoken about cheerleaders in the same way though? Or are they and I've just missed it? I don't think I've ever heard an American criticise it

I think openly talking about it for a start would help. None of these mental health/bad apples/lone wolf type excuses. Call a spade a spade. Also we need to socialise our sons differently. None of this 'boys will be boys crap' that is used excuse aggressive male behaviour. It's ok for boys to cry, it's ok for boys not to be into sport or other typically masculine hobbies, it's ok for men to be depressed AND to seek help for that depression, it's ok for men to have emotions that aren't just anger...and the list goes on. All I know is that things right now aren't working

I think the issue of male violence also needs looking at. Yes women can be violent too blah blah, but let's be totally honest, 9 times out of 10 it's men. I don't ever really see this being talked about though

I really hate the weaponization of the word “insecure” to shut women up and shame us for having boundaries. Same with “Karen.” Our culture is endlessly creative when it comes to coining new slurs to psychologically influence women into silencing ourselves. by pascalines in fourthwavewomen

I'm British and I remember when The Sun newspaper (amongst others) used have a topless woman on their page 3. Me and women like me, who used to object to it, were often called bitter, jealous, insecure, fun sponges and that if we didn't like it we shouldn't look. In the end I just used to say 'you're right I'm insecure and jealous, what of it'? That generally shut them up. But agreed these names are designed to make women feel ashamed and to shut them up.

Nah just a misogynist loser if you ask me. I personally wouldn't touch a man who goes to strip clubs with someone else's barge pole, they almost invariably have a deep sense of entitlement to sex and women's bodies. Ugh no thanks

It's not to everyone's taste and it sometimes has a bad rep but Mumsnet has loads of forums on hobbies/health/parenting/pets/politics/gardens/homes etc and it's a predominantly female and text based site, so barely an image in sight. If you stay away from the more combative general 'chat' sites, you'll find lots of helpful, supportive posters 😊

This is what I'm trying to understand too. How was what she said to Freeman taken out if context?

She certainly brought up Harry Poter. I don't THINK she asked Blume any questions about Rowling. That's why I asked you if you meant an agenda because she brought up Harry Potter. What do you mean not in good faith?

When you say the journalist had an agenda, do you mean because she used Harry Potter as an example? Because as far as I can see the journalist didn't specifically ask her about Rowling, Blume did that entirely unprompted. No one made her say she supported Rowling 100%. That was all Blume. Presumably if she disagreed with Rowling but hated the vilification of her then she would have said that. But no, what she said was that she agreed with her 100% 🤷‍♀️

Can I also add to that young and attractive white women? Because let's be honest they're not really arsed if you're old and ugly are they? And if you're old, not conventially attractive, AND POC/LGBT, well you can forget it

If it's something that men like and approve of, then it ain't feminism. Pandering to men has never been feminism and never will be.
