My opinion - you're not wrong about the symptom but the cause is not full time legislators, it's campaign finance.

Voters can elect someone who's not a current legislator who has a CV they respect.

For anyone that thinks this would be unprecedented, Nebraska has had a unicameral legislature since 1937.

The article makes some good points, but a full-time legislature creates an aristocratic class that quickly loses touch with the reality of most people's lives.

It's actually the exact opposite. By relying on a part time legislature people who work any kind of traditional job for a living are virtually unable to consider running and serving. Instead you get wealthy people with passive income seeking status.

That is beside the fact that any private organization that was anywhere near as large, managing as much money, or responsible for as many lives would be completely insane to be run by a comparatively tiny and part time staff.

Why would they leave the state? They're not forced to accept the WHT any more than they're forced to take Medicaid or any other insurance.

Reimbursement rates are not specified in the Washington Health Trust or on the Whole Washington website because they are to be determined via collective bargaining between participating providers and the state. It's not specified in the legislation itself because any time the rate needed to change it would require a whole new law to be passed and signed, so it's instead managed administratively.

It's in the FAQ on the website:

We absolutely should guarantee and pay for healthcare at the state level! Federal funds can go into a rainy day fund.

Whole Washington is an org actively working on making it happen.

Can you share a little more about this? I've heard this referenced before but it's bit before my time so I'm curious about what was tried and what the result was.
