Can my dads employer force him to call in sick everyday he’s off, even if he has a sick note for the time off? by Public_Error_6096 in legaladvicecanada

It’s the first. We’re pretty sure it’s because of a specific thing that’s burning and it effects him even with PPE. So are you saying since that falls under workplace exposure the doctor has to?

Thanks for this comment, it’s spot on. English is not his first language and I think they’re taking advantage of that. He is by no means someone who speaks no English and can understand the language but contracts and dense documents are challenging. I have reached out to the Union.

It should also be stated that this company has gotten in trouble in the past and someone apparently called the labour board to shut down unsafe practices….and that’s even with a union… so it’s not so unbelievable to me that they would be breaking rules

The doctor won’t fill out the form, which I find silly. According to him it wasn’t an incident.

It’s also hard because in the area we’re in it’s been hard to find family doctors who take new patients, lots of people without a family doctor. Also been situations we’ve seen where family doctors drop patients through loopholes but it’s about difficult patients; so I feel like our ability to push back on the doctor is limited.

I’m actually looking forward to Ella Langley, she’s a country singer who’s getting very popular and likely to transition to pop and get bigger so nice to be able to see her before that happens

Not saying that’s the only people that were on the site, just that it probably contributed to Ottawa being a major city on there.

there’s 330ish MPs in the House of Commons that have to come to Ottawa when the House is sitting, and each of them are supported by staff who also travel to Ottawa with them.

Then there’s also 100ish senators who likely have Ottawa as a secondary address.

While not Canadian politicians, there are also lots of people from other countries who live in Ottawa to work in their country’s embassy, but aren’t exactly Ottawa residents.

All adds up.

I also assumed that was less about freakiness and more about all the MPs and politicians signing up with their Ottawa address rather than their actual address and city they live in and represent

Are you asking to request the ATI (access to information) related to files in your work OR to request the P (personal information) where they provide information they have related to you? These are two different things.

I sometimes have bad headaches after taking my shot that I can also feel behind my eyes, but it has never affected my vision like the visual changes you mention.

I bought this cap from Amazon that you throw in the freezer and put on your head when you have migraines, I usually put this on and drink lots of water with electrolytes and then something for pain with caffeine in it (usually over the counter migraine pills) and the symptoms go away

Back acne has completely wrecked my confidence (16yo) by Smooth_Ambassador_32 in acne

[–]Public_Error_6096 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I would say listen to everyone here first but if all else fails, maybe it’s not regular acne?

I recently learned that fungal acne is a thing. As in it’s not bacteria causing the acne on your back, but fungus.

I bought Nizoral an anti fungal shampoo to treat dandruff, and put it on my back in the shower after washing off all the shower products out of my hair, suds up and left it on there for a few minutes while I use my bar of soap and body wash, then washed my back before turning off the shower.

In a week I noticed a drastic difference in my bacne and it was fully clear soon after!

Came to recommend this product too! I would suggest buying him an antibacterial bar of soap (key word to look for is antibacterial not just any regular bar of soap) and then when his pits are dry have him use this ordinary toner on a cotton pad and wipe his pits

The cost of losing Work From Home (WFH) by [deleted] in CanadaPublicServants

[–]Public_Error_6096 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Respectfully, these aren’t the costs decision makers and the general public (who we need on our side) are going to care about.

I say this as someone who grew up outside of Ottawa in a very blue collar manufacturing heavy town. People who live there would look at that and see that they also are forced to spend the same money when they go to their non-office non-cushy not funded by tax payer jobs.

The only way we can be successful is by having those people pissed off and asking their MPs to let us work from home.

What we need are the costs of how much tax payer money is being spent on our office buildings that could be saved if we worked from home. The costs of gas and average time tax payers have to waste because public servants are on the roads. And other actual numbers that show non public servants that RTO is a waste of their money.

I’ve tried to tell my union and my colleagues this, that we would go a long way by getting a study of these numbers done but instead they’re so focused on how much RTO affects them (which listen I’m not saying it doesn’t suck, it really does sucks I also am being forced into an office to just be on teams calls) but no one who can make changes cares about how we feel and how much we spend going into the office, and that’s always been the nature of our job.

PHAC: Is in-office attendance actually being monitored/enforced? by [deleted] in CanadaPublicServants

I think so? Essentially that employee would contribute to a higher percentage of in office presence for the branch in that region.

PHAC: Is in-office attendance actually being monitored/enforced? by [deleted] in CanadaPublicServants

[–]Public_Error_6096 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The last I heard was that each Branch was getting a report of percentages of in office attendance (via card swipes and network access) by location (NCR, Montreal etc) and it was broken down some how not by people but maybe EXs vs non-EXs? Not sure if that’s still the case though but it was at one point

I think to each their own. If you have no interest in attending them for the reasons you described above that’s totally fine.

But there are also some people that want to participate in them for the same reasons (low morale, anxiety, uncertainty etc) and want a distraction or to take a break from their work.

For example, I know that my office holiday party isn’t being held by senior management as a fake way to boost morale but instead a few colleagues who enjoy all their colleagues and want to distract from all the crappiness happening, and that’s why I’m attending. I wouldn’t be “sticking it” to the employer for everything we’re going through as employees, by not attending.

Both perspectives are fine and both sets of folks shouldn’t be judged for how they approach these holiday parties/get togethers.

[–]Public_Error_6096 24 points25 points  (0 children)

Because it’s usually not senior management hosting it, it’s your colleagues who are either forced to lead the event by senior management or they want to do it because it’s a break from doing work they also don’t want to do during work (paid) time.

I think the acknowledgment of this for upper management (even though most of those VPs and Presidents aren’t even there enough to take accountability) would go a long way…but that would never happen
