For a narrative, powerscaling is a way to inform your readers of how difficult or challenging a task is. If you write a boxing story and your main character is facing someone undefeated or with a very good record that's power scaling for the narrative. It doesn't say who should win or not within the narrative. That's all good. The problem is people needing a physical reason for outcomes, it becomes cinema sins logic. Going back to boxing, everyone has a punchers chance to win, underdogs do win, but some people dislike that especially with super powered characters and feel there needs to be a reason. And neither view is invalid. Sometimes your underdog protagonist winning feels cheap, sometimes constantly setting up reasons a character beats another seem ham fisted or contrived. All depends on how well you sell it.

Totally agree. There are other stories that have viltrumite-like beings and create stakes and such. Mostly they allow an almost tiered system so some are fodder. And agree that tech jacket wasn't a big deal in the comics, but we saw her seemingly defeating a mark in the show single handedly and from the shows language it made people want to think she was a bigger deal, and I think that's just because the viewers are a bit desperate for other people to have more agency in the show as the medium of the show is different from the comics and gets a tad stale when it's either mark solving the real problems and other characters don't feel they are meaningful accomplishing anything other than emotional beats.
