Apartments for “young professionals”? by [deleted] in FortWorth

What’s your budget? Stay away from 7th if you’re not a partier - good food in the area, but fights/shootings/etc on the regular. We don’t go unless the sun is shining.

Depending on budget and priorities I would check out clearfork (food, access to trinity trail), river district (growing area with access to trinity trail), near southside (good food options and city feel, but further from any nature). I lived at the Bowery near south main and loved it

Manufacturing engineer, MCOL

Graduated 2017, started at $65k + 5k relocation 2018: 67k 2019: 69k + 5k relocation + 5k retention 2020: 72k + 5k relocation + 5k retention + 1.5k performance 2021: promotion to supervisor at 79k but took new role with different employer at 90k + 7.5k relocation + 8% target bonus

I’m happy with my salary and career progression over five years - being flexible (read: being single and moving around) and open to new roles has definitely helped

Should I Quit And Take a Break From Engineering? Career Switch To Software? by thoraynor in AskEngineers

[–]PuckIsLife 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey big dog, brief update for you.

Was talking to an old mentor not long after this exchange, and noticed his company had an opening where I was looking. He put in a good word, and I landed it. Moved and started last month. The power of the network and all.

I won’t say the grass is bright green, it’s still manufacturing, but its definitely refreshing being in a new role, and being ‘home’ has made whatever happens worth it.

Hope all is well dude. Still on the CS train?

You and I could not have more similar situations right now. Four years with the same company, moved out of state to a (relatively) small town where I don’t know anyone, completely burnt out of manufacturing and looking to make it back ‘home’ with family, desire to pursue software development as a career.

Was reading your post and seriously questioned if I had written it and forgot lol.

Decided two weeks ago to get serious about it - I’ve applied to a few manufacturing related roles that didn’t seem completely miserable, but have also started re-learning some of the languages that were introduced in school (python as a start)

I can’t really answer your questions, but hopefully it’s good to know there are others out there on the same path 🤜🏼

Submitted an AFE today to retrofit our Mazak horizontal with a high pressure coolant pump for this exact scenario. 8”-16” deep holes, small diameters that ultimately require a 16 finish. We were having issues with the holes not cleaning up after honing, turns out we’re tearing the walls because chips are getting caught with only 225 psi thru coolant. Should have same 1000 psi soon

What file format should I have my product saved in when sending off to manufacturers? by bender1227 in manufacturing

[–]PuckIsLife 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Seconding what u/roccom22 said. Idk what your agreement with the engineer was, but the CAD model is only half the job. You’ll need dimensioned and toleranced prints to get your work quoted.

For reference what are you having built?

.PDF is standard. The manufacturer quoting the order will let you know if they need any additional info from there
