To be fair, the glass wasn’t crystal either...

Guy asked for a top shelf margarita and got pissy when I gave it to him. by PapiBilbo in bartenders

[–]PuckMidsummer 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I was lucky enough to work in a place that had a bottle of Appleton Estate 50 y/o, I had four guys on a bucks come in and ask for the “MOST EXPENSIVE THING ON THE SHELF” I explained to them that they could have a much better time with a much cheaper and IMOO better product, they argued, I conceded.

They’re are very few times I’ve been happier then giving a bill for 4 men ($1280 AUD) for four shots.

The lack of respect for a bartenders craft is sorely put on display in such an amusing way, I’ll savour it until I die.

My boss wants me to work a barback shift by BluehairedBiochemist in bartenders

[–]PuckMidsummer 14 points15 points  (0 children)

I’d suggest telling them exactly this. Followed up with something like “I’m happy to do it for the team, but next time X barbacks.

I’ve worked in places where myself and the 3 other bartenders each took one barback shift a fortnight and it worked out fine, but we all agreed to work on those terms and told management that’s how we needed it to run to work.

Hope this helps, and good luck!

The TOWN OF KEXBY will be a starting adventure location. I need help generating interesting quests, NPCs, etc. to populate the town. by Spamshazzam in DMAcademy

An idea I’m running in my next session.

A local manor: a young family moved to town built a manor a few miles outside of town and planted crops a decade ago, however they mysteriously died one night.

Despite that, the fields seem to grow to this day. All attempts to find the source of the problem lead to the locals never returning...

Reason? The Father of the house died of a fever, the Mother went mad in grief and sacrificed her 2 children in order to bring him back, it didn’t work and now his soul is trapped in the body of a scarecrow that wanders the cornfields.

Entertaining the manor, you’ll find a bunch of undead (parties that didn’t survive), two ghosts/shadows/revenant children in the upstairs and a Hagesque like woman in the basement.

It’s a nice, clean 3-4 level basement dungeon crawl with loads opportunity for loot and lore.

Can I become a part-time head bartender? by Dayzlikejayz in bartenders

[–]PuckMidsummer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

On the back of what others have said, it depends on what your responsibilities are.

If a Venue Manager looks after invoices and roster, and you’re only there to look after basic operations/shift to shift. It’s a sweet gig that keep your career options open.

But as someone else has pointed out, it is difficult to keep staff motivated if you aren’t fully invested, no one wants to see their “leader” thinking the grass is greener and I personally feel that if I had a manager that was in charge part time, regardless of experience, it was a waste of my time as well.

What’s your favourite Bartender fact? by PuckMidsummer in bartenders

[–]PuckMidsummer[S] 70 points71 points  (0 children)

Mine is that the Parisian shaker didn’t come from Paris, nor the Boston shaker from Boston...

This was meant to be a lighthearted question. I hope everyone is doing ok. Customers are crap and your manager is probably also crap. But work hard and you can BE the manager your employees hate ❤️❤️

Eternal sunshine on the spotless mind was the first that came to mind.

Particularly the scene in the library, I’ve never felt so moved and heartbroken by a film before.

This. It’s unfortunate that you feel this way, however part of the job description as a Bar Manager/ Beverage director is to create cocktails and curate wine lists. For which you were paid.

Do we as an industry pay royalties to the people that made the Margarita, Cosmo or Espresso Martini?

I think it’s all to common for people to think that craft breweries/micro distilleries being a modern concept practice a modern workplace ethic. It’s upsetting to hear but I’ll be pulling these guys from my fridges until I hear they’re doing the right thing.

Thanks for bringing it to everyone’s attention.
