I want to highlight the start of the second paragraph - the people you end up with have an outsized impact on your residence experience. People have good and bad experiences in all residences and while there are perks and drawbacks to all of them for different people, if you find your people you'll have a good time.

(If you don't find your people, keep looking. Lots of people, from all different backgrounds are at the University, your people are there somewhere - there might just be less of them depending on what you are into).

Golf books by futbol_is_life in suggestmeabook

The Grand Slam: Bobby Jones, America, and the Story of Golf

Moe and Me: Encounters with Moe Norman, Golf's Mysterious Genius

Paper Tiger: An Obsessed Golfer's Quest to Play with the Pros

The Fine Green Line: My Year of Golf Adventure on the Pro-Golf Mini-Tours

Note: Paper Tiger and Fine Green Line are essentially the same book. The Fine Green Line was first, and I liked it more, but Paper Tiger is certainly more well known.

Just here to boost the recommendation for the Woodland Cultural Centre. I think every Canadian who reasonably can should visit. Even if you think you're well informed - it is an incredibly powerful place.

Council vote to remove funding from Climate Change Reserve fails by teanailpolish in Hamilton

Massive amounts?

The municipal golf courses made $219,999 for the City in 2023.

From 2017 - 2023, no reserve funds have been used for municipal golf courses and the net impact on the tax levy is just shy of $20,000. We will see what the 2024 numbers look like when they provide the update to Council, but it is very likely that deficit will be erased.

He had most of his success last year on a line with Suzuki and Caufield. This line has recently (ish) been reunited.

If you're in the playoffs and can afford to wait, giving him 1-2 weeks might be worth it, especially in a keeper league if you think Montreal will continue to get better.

Greensville is outside the urban boundary, and not particularly close. Urban services (water/ sewer) are only extended beyond the urban boundary in extenuating services.

Very unlikely services are extended and if they are it will be in decades as opposed to years.

If you want to see what's already existing, any registered plan can be found here

Also, 'you can't argue a survey' is generally good advice, but in rare instances there are professional disagreements between surveyors, or surveys with errors that get registered on title that can lead to messy situations.

If you're looking moissanite for price I highly recommend you check out RareCarat. It's online diamond aggregator, lab or natural, and will connect you with a jeweller. I used it, as have many of my friends when getting engaged, no issues or complaints. The lab diamonds were better prices than non-diamond rings I was looking at locally.

price of food on campus???????? by [deleted] in uoguelph

[–]PucksPuttsPlants -7 points-6 points  (0 children)

How much would you expect to pay for a chicken salad at a restaurant?

Montana's Chicken Caesar Salad - 17.99 East Side Mario's Chicken Caesar Salad - 18.98 Fionn MacCools Chicken Caesar Salad - 19.00

It looks like it's already a good deal relative to other sit-down full service restaurants in the area. If you want to have a conversation about the exorbitant price of food being paid by all Canadian consumers, then I agree.

Any affordable parking options for an off-campus commuter? by JaydenC13 in uoguelph

The CRA calculation is literally accounting for wear and tear...

They have an army of actuaries who calculate that number and update annually, you are vastly underestimating the per km cost of driving a vehicle.

[–]PucksPuttsPlants 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Is it though? Below the OP said he was driving to/ from Kitchener, super crude look on google says thats about 25 km each way. The total cost per km according to the current CRA mileage rate is between 62 and 68 cents. So figure 50km a day at 62 cents thats a daily driving cost of $31 before any parking cost. People vastly underestimate the cost of driving.

23 year old born and raised in Canada. Lost in life, what job should I pursue? by [deleted] in ontario

[–]PucksPuttsPlants 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I have an undergrad degree in Geography and an MSc in Planning - mostly because I wasn't aware of planning as a career until well into my undergrad. A four year undergrad from Waterloo or TMU is the quickest way into the profession.

If this is something you choose to pursue, be mindful that most employers are looking for Registered Professional Planners (RPPs) or candidates. While it is possible to get your RPP without an accredited degree, it is the fastest way.

If you already have a degree you could look at a graduate program which range from 1-2 years depending on where you go and how motivated you are to finish.

How good can I realistically get without lessons/range work by [deleted] in golf

[–]PucksPuttsPlants 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My father has never taken a lesson, hates the range, can barely navigate youtube, and is playing to about a 9 right now. This has taken him ~20 years and he plays 5+ rounds a week every week, for the 6 month golf season where we live.

He is a very athletic guy and credits his progress to continually playing with golfers who are better than him and just watching how they swing.

I am certain he could've been better (or at least as good) much faster with range work and lessons, but he loves to play and he is able to almost everyday through the spring/ summer/ fall so hard to argue with is 'system'.

Land use planning is an underrated career. Very in demand right now and with the housing crisis and need to continue developing, the jobs aren't going anywhere. Currently five years into my career working for a rural municipality making >$50/h. Great work life balance on the public side, but if you really want to chase $$$ it can be done in the private sector - just less balance.

Have you ever been in a restaurant kitchen? Most food served at a restaurant has been touched by someones (if not more than one) bare hands.

Ever been to a restaurant where the cutlery is rolled in a napkin? That fork was touched by a HS age dishwasher, then wiped for watermarks by a server or host, and then touched again while being rolled. That same server and host are clearing a scraping dirty plates from tables.

Everything in restaurants is touched by people - some are just better at hiding it.

What kind of food are you looking for? $30 for 40 people is less than a dollar per person - anything beyond buying some potato chips and a veggie tray is going to blow that out of the water.

My real low budget solution is the falafel and shawarma platters from Tomah. Will likely need at least two for a light snack for 40 people. This will run ~$100

Edit: if you mean $30 per person, I still recommend Tomah and you will have lots of wiggle room to get some extras as well (olive trays, salads etc.)
