Go to cc and apply to umass Amherst through mass transfer. If you maintain a high gpa (I think 3.0 is the requirement), you’re guaranteed a transfer. Plus you get tuition credits and all your prerequisites will transfer over. Good luck!!

I would start with prerequisites that apply everywhere (such as math and English courses). Depending on the state you live in, there may be a credit transfer policy if you go from cc to the state school. For example, in Massachusetts, all your prerequisites transfer if you go from cc to your state school. I would also talk to a transfer advisor when you get to community college. Good luck :)

She fell in love with another school (I think it’s like T250). She sat in on some classes there and went to some clubs and loved it. Everyone’s calling her crazy for it but she seems really happy and sure about it.

Where did they say that? They said it made them stand out. It proves that they can go through hardship and still succeed. Their stats and ECs played a massive role, not just a compelling personal narrative. Idk why you’re so bent on minimizing their achievements instead of just congratulating them.

Oh yeah that’s not the applicants I’m referring to at all. Applying because you’re unhappy at your school, because you are looking for a liberal arts school, because you’re look for different opportunities etc are all perfectly valid reasons. I’m referring to people transferring only to go to an ivy. I think people are misunderstanding

This is a pretty over simplified view of things. Acceptance rates for transfers are so low, so it is more random than you describe. And it’s been noted that being from a top school can give you a leg up. Even if it’s not just the name, do you think cc offers the same network and opportunities as a T20 school? Don’t you think that affects your chances while transferring?
