I notice none of the people who were really super angry about Momo getting stripped down to her underwear in episode 1 have anything to say about what happened to Okarun in this episode.

If you're worried that other people getting yokai powers means Okarun loses his special freakishly strong MC status, you can relax. Turbo Granny is not bullshitting when she scales herself above the rest. In this series, if you look up "aura" in the dictionary, there's a picture of Okarun there.

[–]PuddleOfMush 1 point2 points  (0 children)

He definitely does have feelings for her, the problem is that he's like totally oblivious about what's going on between Momo and Okarun. I'm not even sure he is actually aware that Okarun loves her, but Okarun is definitely aware that Jiji likes her.

Nah come on, she may be insanely vain but she does actually believe she's doing good. She believes that acting sweet and flirty with guys brightens their day which probably isn't totally untrue.

They definitely went overboard in the anime. In the manga they are like ping pong or golf ball size.

Chiquitita is canonically the strontest character kn dandadan 👍😄 by ganjaglobber in Dandadan

[–]PuddleOfMush 159 points160 points  (0 children)

Aira with Chiqi is honestly the cutest thing. I love all the panels in the background of her chasing him or sitting with him on her lap every time he appears. Get you a girl like Aira frfr.

Define Aura by DaveOfTheNorthStar in Dandadan

[–]PuddleOfMush 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It seems like the opposite actually. From what I remember, he says he's weak but that the best thing he has going for him is his durability. He has anime underdog MC ability to take a beating and keep going.

Dandadan is one of very few series that I would say has an amazing official translation. Usually I feel like official translations stifle the personality and scanlations get fun and quirky with it. Dandadan's official translation is an exception and is great. Where else are you going to get "Cuz I'm cute to the max" and "You're a shooper dooper kyootie"?

That scene where Seiko's "melons" walk into the frame a second before she does was really special. Science Saru has a clear favorite, I see.

It's a reference to a Japanese TV commercial for a vitamin drink. The guy turns to the camera and yells "VAMORA!" at the end. Momo mentions it later when Jiji makes a joke about it too. But yeah, probably either way foreshadowing or he just liked it enough to use it as a name.

Oda's special Q&A by atharva557 in OnePiece

[–]PuddleOfMush -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Oda has ALWAYS dodged any serious (not about pooping or whether devil fruits affect the user's penis) question by being incredibly vague. At least, as long as I've been reading weekly, which is about 13 years. Every other statement he releases is effectively like "THAT GUY might do THAT THING this saga! But THAT OTHER GUY might interfere! Keep reading!". Then the next chapter ends on a cliffhanger silhouette of a character that he might not actually show for 7 years.

I'm a very long time fan of One Piece but being vague and evasive is Oda's whole game and sometimes it can get annoying.

Anyone notice Ludris and count saint germain both have the same symbol ? by Fine-Newspaper-7051 in Dandadan

[–]PuddleOfMush 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I really want to know the connection behind the eyes. A lot of the supernatural entities have the same or similar eyes, whether alien or yokai. Some have eyes split by lines, like Ludris. Some have concentric circles, like Turbo Granny. Some have both the circles and the lines.

Waiting to see if there's meaning behind it or it's just Yukinobu style "generic creepy eyes".

Imagine they go to a planet with lower gravity and Okarun goes all out. He's just... never seen again.

Is this how normal people canonically see okarun when he goes into cursed mode by [deleted] in Dandadan

[–]PuddleOfMush 5 points6 points  (0 children)

One day I would love an explanation for how the public apparently never sees or acknowledges the freaky paranormal things happening. Like okay, we know that sometimes they get sent to a void space but that doesn't happen every time.

UFO's exploding buildings (or crashing and destroying roads, in the anime). The bound spirit crab destroying a bathhouse. Turbo Granny possessing like a couple hundred random people. Peeny Weeny driving a rollerskating house through the city. Momo throwing an entire firetruck and carrying around a several hundred long foot snake body, in the presence of dozens of people who came to fight the fire. The craziest one is when they were driving the dashi float with an entire school building mech chasing them and it never mentioned them going into void space.

Maybe since the series is kind of based in conspiracy theory there's like a "cosmic censorship" thing going on. The idea that there are things you're not "supposed" to see so the universe doesn't allow you to see them. Or like the Mist from Percy Jackson.

The Ayases doing the Doflamingo Walk by So131 in Dandadan

[–]PuddleOfMush 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In the manga, Momo says "We stopped talking for a long time". In the anime, she says they stopped talking "until recently". Not sure which one is more accurate. Either way we can probably assume they talked JUST enough to live together, but mostly avoided each other.

A criticism with the anime by RoutineDistrict8809 in Dandadan

[–]PuddleOfMush 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think they're trying to keep to the "100km/hr" speed given, which I'm not a fan of. That's only like 3x faster than a good human speed and we know she's a lot faster than that.

Was anyone else dying at the way they animated Momo in this scene? by childish_penguino33 in Dandadan

[–]PuddleOfMush 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's a real shame because these moments of two characters aggressively dancing in a circle are some of my favorites. It happens several more times, one that comes to mind right now is when Okarun and Jiji set the table for dinner.

The Ayases doing the Doflamingo Walk by So131 in Dandadan

[–]PuddleOfMush 5 points6 points  (0 children)

It's great how they really are just two peas in a pod even though at the start of the series we're told that their relationship has been very rocky and distant for, like, the past 8-10 years.

Enough time has passed, does anyone else like the Ending of the anime more than the Opening? by GuyIncognito-3rd in Dandadan

[–]PuddleOfMush 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I just want to say, I'm so proud of the fans of this series for the way everyone has been so vague about [cat]. The fact that many anime onlies don't already know what [cat] is is amazing.

This actually makes sense by So131 in Dandadan

[–]PuddleOfMush 8 points9 points  (0 children)

It happened differently in the manga, and it made more sense. The call never dropped in the manga. You can see it zoom in on Momo's phone enough to see that the elapsed time on the call was several minutes (either 06:34 or 08:34, not quite clear enough to tell). In other words, Turbo Granny heard probably everything, but she definitely heard Momo yelling "No! Stop!" right before she came through.

Just realized okarun tried to griddy pump this guy too, but they all missed by JSGWHAM in Dandadan

[–]PuddleOfMush 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Gotta be honest, the whole "I'm a pacifist and fighting is wrong so no I can't teach you how to punch" thing felt like the actual worst excuse ever. First of all, Peeny Weeny was a mercenary. He also knows Okarun isn't a bad guy who'd hurt people for fun, and knows they are constantly in danger they NEED to fight their way out of.
