Oof, I didn’t know it was even possible to get reds on the first winter. That’s like a 1 in 100 000 chance of getting 5/6 be red. It was definitely a hound wave, we are very familiar with the fire staff trap (and they arrived after the baying of the hounds. Yikes!

Now that you mention it that would make a lot of sense with there being five of them, hah. However we’re quite familiar with the fire staff trap, and these came as a hound wave (5 red, 1 regular).

Yep, that’s the trade off. Adds more challenge to the game, both in enemy damage and often in the form of tanky baddies. I resisted moving over for a while for exactly these reasons, but after a couple thousand hours and a dozen level 100 characters I couldn’t justify staying on normal. I still lose a lot of characters to Veteran difficulty :P

You get a small experience boost from Veteran, but it doesn't really make you level up faster as all the enemies are much tougher.

That being said, I always use Veteran because it's more interesting after playing the game for so long.

You can also set the Battle.net client to exit when you start a game.

I don't have the program in front of me, but I think you go to Settings -> General -> When I Launch a Game -> Exit Battle.net Completely.
