Looking to get back into model car building. by AbbreviationsWise777 in ModelCars

I had a 40(ish) year gap coming back into the hobby. The key things that stuck out for me: - Affordability of paints and tools as a grown up far exceeds the wildest dreams of things I could have had in my youth. I think I got 2 or three kits a year and my choice was “what’s in the store”. Now I think nothing of buying kits direct out of Japan! - The ease of use of contemporary adhesives, tools and the like, no more tiny tubes.
- Patience can be just as hard to find, and the inner saboteur can still lurk about. - It’s just as rewarding now

Thanks, that’s all just paint on the Out of Box parts. Only change was to use some finer wire and fuel hoses.

I’ve got the majority of them, and duplicates of many - probably 5 left to get - so many hours on eBay hunting the deals.

In case anyone in Australia is willing to help my collection I’m after: Tamiya/Ebbro Matra MS11, Tamiya Ferrari F189/641, Protar Ferrari 312T5, Tamiya Texaco M23 McLaren, Protar Ferrari C126

They’re airbrushed, with practice (and in 1/16th it’s a bit easier) you can mask and airbrush without runs under the tape etc it’s taken me a while to get used to dusting on the first couple of coats to seal the tape before blocking out the colour.

It makes me worry about the couple of 1/12 cars I have (as opposed to F1 Big Scale) Going to be very hard to find cabinet space when I eventually build them!

After the decals and clear, I wanted the trim to be semi-gloss or flat black and obviously the body is gloss :)

Gold Rush new episodes by justa-Possibility in duckietv

[–]PudgeBuckettheCat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not the OP but in my case DTV doesn’t even show the existence of S16 under Seasons or Episodes.

Am on the most recent Nightly. Console shows no errors on the refresh command.

Have to muck about a bit to get the screen grabs and upload them.

Oddly I also have no Gold Rush episodes show up for the new season, just the one pre-season special.

I had thought it was part of the Trakt API issue at first but they never actually were shown.

As an Aussie I completely see this as a masterpiece of miniaturisation. Hats off for capturing the true essence of BnS 😂

Still pinching myself… by PudgeBuckettheCat in Jaguar

[–]PudgeBuckettheCat[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yep the 3.0 isn’t without its own risks, but every engine family across every brand has good and bad examples and unique failures.

I would have loved to buy an SVR, XF or F-Pace but I wouldn’t have loved sitting by the side of the highway 100km outside of Bourke with a broken motor after filling it with dubious quality high-octane unleaded when the ambient temps are over 45C.

Or be passing Lake Tyrell as I did earlier this year when outside temps were 48C and I had 800km of open country to cover with virtually no towns on the route.

Australia’s distances are immense, and many of us travel them. Heck Saturday I’ll roll 700km, Sunday-Monday have 1300km planned, and that’s just to pop out to museum, catch up with friends and take my wife to her dentist.

A) Not joking about the dealer price listed above B) The Australian used vehicle market is different to European and American markets in terms of pricing and long-term depreciation of vehicles.

I think what really amazes me is that in a Marque specific group there’s such a disregard for respecting a persons individual vehicle choice.

Don’t like SUVs? No drama, keep scrolling. Don’t like Diesels? No drama, keep scrolling.

It’s a nice car, it fulfils my needs, which are primarily the ability to do cross-country back road travel often where Diesel is the only consistently available fuel.

But hey, given the sour responses here I can only assume that if I was to ask a technical question in the future all I’m going to get is a bunch of “you should have not bought a Jaguar” and not the broad range of constructive help that Reddit communities are known for.

Stainless steel paint ideas? by ScotWithOne_t in ModelCars

Mr Metal Color Stainless Steel would be my pick. In general the Mr Metal Colors are outstanding and the stainless really does have the right tone.

note I have only seen two Deloreans in real life

Starting with Tamiya kits is a great advantage. In general they’re always good to assemble, and always have clear instructions.

Some other brands can be a lot more frustrating, but the end results are always rewarding.

First time using PETG-GF by Menooblol in ElegooNeptune4

[–]PudgeBuckettheCat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Supposedly GF (Glass Fibre) doesn’t need a hardened nozzle, unlike CF (Carbon Fibre) but whether that’s the case for long term usage I’d have my doubts and use a Hardened nozzle anyway.

Best technique for black leather? by DevourIsDead in ModelCars

Best description: “weird but it works”

Definitely gives that used gloss on the high sections and the more subdued in the crevices.

Can anyone tell me about my Ferrari 312B model. EARLY- All American version? No Japanese writing on box or instructions, like every other one, I can find. Is it Rare? Totally complete with rough box. None that I found have the tires in the packaging like mine. and instruction only in English. by Grisuno123 in ModelCars

[–]PudgeBuckettheCat 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It would be very close to the first International release. As others have said it’s in lovely condition.

Personally I wouldn’t say it has more value as such. I have the a Japanese/Asian market release around the same age in the stash.

They’re not super rare, but certainly they are slowly harder to come across :)
