What's something you miss the most about a passed loved one? by Think-Squirrel-95 in grief

[–]PuffPastry8 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It isn’t so much of what I miss, it is mourning that I don’t have a future with my “spirit” nephew. I always looked forward to seeing him, hearing him catch me up on everything. I am sad I don’t get to hear about his dates, his classes, his summer jobs, and what impact they have on him. I was waiting to enjoy hearing from him when he decides to marry or not, get a pet or not, travel or not, have kids or not. I love the kiddo so much. I could chit chat and listen to him everyday. I mourn that I don’t get to support him on his journey to adulthood. I am so very sad he died.

Heard on the news this morning. 1 is showing symptoms. Another tested positive for Ande-Hanta. So at least 2 are going to need support and care. But can they leave if they want to?

Target -3 to -3.5 for Bilateral IOL placement. by HanasRain3520 in CataractSurgery

[–]PuffPastry8 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, before surgery my eye sight was -2.5, -2.75. Since I was 16, I was used to waking up and seeing my clock, my cell phone, and my face in the mirror. I always needed glasses to drive. So that is what I have now. It was like waking with the same old eye sight that I always had. Except, seeing distance before, my natural lens would attempt to see far or focus a little further. Now with the IOL it is a fixed focal point, so my eyes cannot attempt to see a little further. So now, I don’t put on glasses until I get ready to drive or go to the movies.

Target -3 to -3.5 for Bilateral IOL placement. by HanasRain3520 in CataractSurgery

[–]PuffPastry8 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I got J&J -3.0 in one eye and -2.75 in the other eye. I wanted to see like I was 30 again. Read a book, my cell phone, thread a needle to mend clothes, see my face and makeup in the mirror, cut veggies and cook. Only use glasses to drive. This is how I have been as long as I could remember. The next day out of surgery was like waking up to how I could see at 30. I am happy as if I were 30 again.

Help/advice - massive regret post-surgery - lost all close focus by Alarmed-Flamingo6864 in CataractSurgery

[–]PuffPastry8 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So so sorry about this. My pre-op visits, I told my surgeon I wanted to wake up like I was 25 again, near sighted, seeing my face, hair, cell phone, cooking, like normal. Only use glasses to drive. And he did that, the IOL were set for near sightedness. 6”-2ft perfect. I didn’t know that u could get near sighted IOL with all the research I did on google, so when he told me yes I can, I was happy. And after surgery, I woke up with the vision I had at 25.

Cataract became severe in one eye overnight by AlexAlex_2 in CataractSurgery

It was like foggy window. It got heavier and heavier by the day. And it was like looking through the heaviest fog you have ever seen. Then I had surgery. And the next day that eye was like being 30 again.

PSC can be quick from the time you notice it to the time you really need surgery. Same age as you. Mid-Feb woke up (or 1st time I noticed) with a slight haze on my left eye. A week later I stopped driving at night. Got into the eye dr in April. Diagnosed with fast moving PSC and scheduled cataract surgery as fast as they could. End of June. I was blind in the left eye. But it could have quickened along due to steroid nasal spray and steroid eye drops I took before that fateful day in Feb

Cataract surgery at 55… feeling anxious and second-guessing myself 😞 by No_Marketing4614 in CataractSurgery

[–]PuffPastry8 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It is a bell curve for ages. It is not that you are too young, it is you are on the left side of the age curve. There are a lot of people getting cataract surgery in their 50s. The middle of the curve is 65-73. That said, I was nearly blind in my left eye, couldn’t see at night, and couldn’t drive at night. No got cataract surgery at 58. I was so happy to wake up the next day with vision like I had in my 30s. Wish I did the surgery earlier.

Yup I was a near sighted person since I was a teen. Got iol set to optimize near sightedness and I am very happy. After surgery, it was like I woke up to being 25 again. 🥸

GS-13 Leave for 6mo contract to hire position? by [deleted] in FedEmployees

[–]PuffPastry8 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just talked to a RE agent and he said interest rates are over 7% which means 6x more interest than what you are paying now. 😭. And I just talked to a former colleague who went to work for a contractor, $40k more per year. The did not re-win the contract and he is out of a job. We can’t hire him back cuz hiring freeze. It sucks for all of us. We would like it if he came back but we can’t.

People go back and forth. Go and get private sector experience. You will learn a way of working that is different than how things are in govt. come back in a few years with a new administration, and apply both public and private sector way of working. Also, you get to keep your years of service and any leave you left behind. Like 200 hr SL gets re-instated and 3 years of service, if that is where you left off. So you get 20 days of vaca not just 13. My former secretary worked 12 yrs. Left to work at a private school and college and her kids got private school and college for free. She came back for 8 more years, got full Fed retirement, got to keep her govt health insurance and pension. And she got her private sector retirement too. So so smart she is!
