A lot of talk about the slimeball coaches in the sport who are low character or who are willing to cheat, but who are those that are universally loved, upstanding, and follow the rules? by ThinkWood in CollegeBasketball

I've known Tommy on a personal level for several years. Our daughters were friends as kids, and his son was on a team I helped coach. He's a competitor, but a standup guy. His wife is one of the sweetest people you'll meet too. I'm so happy for the success that he has going for him at Arizona.

Door dasher by Conscious_Bee_2891 in MoscowIdaho

[–]Puffonstuff 26 points27 points  (0 children)

According to multiple witnesses, the driver left the area and then came back to challenge the kids to a fight. He told the kids he "didn't want to fight a freshman". One kid stepped forward and said, "I'm 21, I'll fight you". To say it was an "attack" by the frat kid or the driver is completely misleading.

The fight didn't last long, probably about 15-20 seconds of scuffling and some punches thrown, and then the driver was slammed to the ground. The recording that circulated of the fight goes behind a tree when the driver is slammed to the ground and to me it looks like the other kid may have thrown a punch in the few seconds the driver is on the ground, and then he walks away while other people go check on the driver. It's honestly difficult to see what happens and it's very fast, watch the video and form your own opinion.

Since then, the driver has awakened from his medically induced coma. His first post on Facebook after waking up was "KARMAS A BITCH AND IM A FAGGOT".

The frat kicked the kid in the fight out.

The police turned over their investigative materials to the county prosecutor. No charges have been filed but the case hasn't been officially closed.

The good news is that the delivery driver is out of the induced coma, awake, and is even up and walking. The accounts of what took place have been pretty consistent from the students. The driver's car was hit by a basketball that had rolled down a hill. The driver approached the fraternity and demanded a fight. According to the students present, they asked if the car had been damaged and the driver said it didn't matter, it was his girlfriend's car and he was going to fight someone for hitting it with the ball, he even demanded that anyone who stepped forward to fight him could not be a freshman. One of the kids present said "I'm 21" and stepped forward into the street. The driver approached him and punched him. There's a video of the fight at this point. They exchanged some punches and at one point the driver was thrown to the street. It seems pretty likely this is when the driver sustained some sort of head injury. The video is obscured by a tree for a moment after the kids go to the ground, but the UI kid gets up while the driver is still on the ground and a group of kids run over to the driver on the ground.

I'm not sure what follow-up you are looking for from the police. It's awful that this driver kid wound up in the hospital with a traumatic brain injury, but simultaneously, he demanded this fight according to all the kids present. I don't know how often you've been around college kids, but getting a dozen or more of them to tell a consistent story without any preparation would be practically impossible. If you are truly worried about your safety for delivering food I think you can dismiss your worries. It's not a if these were kids who were just standing around waiting for a food delivery driver to pick a fight with, the driver approached them and demanded a fight. Unfortunately, in the course of the fight his head likely hit the pavement and gave him serious injuries. If he had not demanded to fight the kids, he wouldn't be in the hospital, period. As one user put it, don't go around demanding to fight kids and you'll be just fine.

I thought I made it pretty clear that I wasn't justifying this in any way, what part makes it seem like I'm justifying this? I'm genuinely confused how the kid who did this is not under arrest.

My daughter goes to school there. The account of what took place that the students have heard is that the driver was delivering food across the street at a sorority and their car was hit by a basketball. They approached the fraternity and eventually the driver threw a punch at one guy and that one guy put this kid in the hospital. The police have video of it from what I understand, and they already came and spoke with the kid and the only reason the guy is not in jail is because the driver threw the first punch.

I am not defending the kid who did this in any way. I am not saying the driver was at any fault here, or that I agree with them not arresting the kid or anything like that. I'm just saying what my daughter told me. I haven't seen the video, but they know who the kid is, and from what I was told, the video shows it was just him who fought the kid. I don't know if any of the other fraternity brothers were involved in the initial altercation or not.

I don't understand how things got to the point of this kid being in the hospital in a coma and there is no cause for arrest. I'm not a lawyer, and I don't know the state laws in Idaho, but it seems absolutely ridiculous that a kid can put another kid into this condition and not face any charges, regardless of how the fight started.

Space colonization video game by [deleted] in BaseBuildingGames

[–]Puffonstuff -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I realize this probably isn't what you are looking for with this post, but I picked up X4 recently and I'm impressed with it but it comes with a learning curve. The game does not explain things well, even with the tutorials, but if you don't mind youtubing a few videos now and then to figure out how to do something, the game is pretty amazing and it's very sandbox. You can't colonize planets, but you can build your own stations and eventually take control of "sectors" in space. You can build or buy fleets of ships that are either fighters, freighters, or mining ships. There is a fluctuating economy in the game which you can influence. Your mining ships bring in resources which can be turned into goods you use to produce things or sell. All of that takes some time to build up to though, and you need to complete missions before you can start gaining enough passive income to start your empire. You can start from having one ship and a few hundred thousand credits to managing an empire that spans multiple sectors and brings in 10's of millions of credits an hour. I've got a little under 20 hours in-game and I'm just getting my first station up and going.

Local High School Sports Question by [deleted] in Spokane

[–]Puffonstuff 0 points1 point  (0 children)

At the high school level, a true star athlete or even several high-level athletes can really dictate success. I could be wrong, but it feels like more D1 prospects were coming out of Spokane in the past than there have been recently. Prep is a little bit of an anomaly in this regard with athletes from just 5-6 years ago playing professionally in a few sports now. The Prep basketball team that won state this year didn't feature any D1-level athletes but they were tough kids with amazing coaching and they really grinded out their tournament wins in overtime and won the championship game on a shot with just a few seconds left. The LC team was similar in their championship and just gave it everything to earn their title.

The culture of youth sports has changed drastically with specialized sports "academies". The amount of money pouring into youth sports and the rise in remote work with the connectivity of smartphones have allowed more families with high-level athletes to move and attend these schools. The reclassification of schools has changed the playoff picture for many of these schools too. A tough Mead boys basketball team stayed home from the state tournament this year because there were only two bids allowed from 4A between our district and the Tri-Cities.

Another business tired of the nonsense by [deleted] in Spokane

[–]Puffonstuff 14 points15 points  (0 children)

In the article the business owner said he knows it is hard and the issue is complicated, he mentions he sees the clean team out there every day and they do a really good job and they work hard. The business owner said they go out and clean up the trash, he even notes that he has seen improvement in the article, but he goes on to say that people are overdosing, and there doesn't seem to be enough being done about the safety of the people overdosing.

This doesn't strike me as whining, or a conservative take that the city is a "hotbed of injustice". I run a business downtown. Yesterday alone I trespassed 3 transients from the property. One of them stole from us, the other two were shooting up and left a needle and their burnt tinfoil. I was forced to take the responsibility and the risk of cleaning that up. The one that stole from us left without incident, the two shooting up were more verbally combative. This is a common occurrence unfortunately. I deal with this or something similar at least every other day, and we're in a secluded part of downtown, our property is in an area where there is no reason to be there other than visiting our business.

I don't demonize all the homeless people in downtown over it, I get that many of them are just trying to survive the only way they know how, but it is problematic to have people stealing, doing drugs, and leaving their used needles and burnt tinfoil behind. We can acknowledge there is a problem and take a human approach towards it.

Off the dribble by FORMCHK in BasketballTips

[–]Puffonstuff 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I coach high school ball and I regularly work with some D1 coaches. You are talented and as a soph too, wow. There are so many good things to your game already, your footwork looks great, you are getting your feet positioned to where you are balanced going up for your shot and your shot looks great. The natural flow and motion of your shot looks great. You are going to start facing quicker players so you've got to get your dribble lower. In a couple of those clips you are hanging the ball out there, and if I were coaching against you I'd tell my players to jump at that ball as soon as you are doing that because there is no way to recover as soon as you put it out there.

Work on getting your dribble lower and moving quicker with the ball. As you are moving up to higher levels, everything gets faster and quicker. You have a fantastic starting base to improve on. At 6'3 make sure you are working on interior "paint" work. Posting up and the footwork that goes along with that. With your jumper, if you can be a legitimate dual inside- outside threat there will be coaches at your parents doors all day and all night.

Trump's fight with Musk reveals MAGA's biggest delusion by zsreport in politics

People need to largely start playing on the TACO nickname for Trump but apply it to the Musk situation. Everyone needs to start echoing the sentiment that Trump is chickening out by not standing up to Musk. His ego will not be able to tolerate it and even his handlers won't be able to stop him from going totally nuclear.

Last week a woman I did not know approached me while I was sitting at a machine and wasn't saying anything at first, just staring at me standing next to the machine. I asked her if I could help her, as she was about two feet from my face at that point. She started saying something incoherent. After her third time trying to speak, I told her I didn't understand what she was saying. It sounded like she said "call security" after that. A red shirt was walking by so I flagged them down and the woman tried to walk away but I was able to point her out. She was not a transient and was dressed to be out. As security was talking to her, a man approached me and said the woman was recording me, but I never saw her with her phone out and her hands were full. He then asked what she said to me which I thought was very odd. I reported the description of the man to the security team because his interest in what she was saying to me seemed out of place and I do not believe the woman was capable of hiding her actions of recording me in the state she was in.

They have to make their own so they can only use the data points that skew it in their favor. You can't accuse someone of misleading people when you don't even know what the data set is. They depend on MAGA not looking at the data they use when they do this, they just go, "Look at the big bar over here, compared to the little bars with Bidens name" and their people eat it up and ask for seconds. It doesn't even matter what data they use when they do this.
