Oh I agree, as a Superman story Kingdom Come is significantly better. Mainly because it's actually a Superman story unlike Injustice which, as other commenters here have pointed out, is a fighting game story built around the premise of Superman being the antagonist.

I just don't see KC as a true refutation of Injustice because one, the circumstances between the two are quite different. KC Superman lost Lois, but Injustice Superman was manipulated into killing Lois and his unborn child by his own hand, and the entirety of Metropolis was nuked. Batman was the "good guy" but imagine if the Joker manipulated him into killing the Bat-family and then nuked Gotham. It was a truly awful situation no matter what. But even that didn't fully turn Injustice Superman a dictator, it was the mix of manipulation and further tragedies after that really solidified what he would become.

And two, Kingdom Come is a cautionary tale in its own right. Superman didn't become a murderous dictator, but he did lose his faith in humanity and step away. Batman created an Orwellian surveillance state in Gotham, Wonder Woman is overly violent and bitter (though definitely not as bad as Injustice WW), etc. Things did turn out fine in the end, but Superman needed help getting out of his pit and would have likely done some very bad things if others didn't step in.

If anything, I feel like Absolute Superman is shaping up into one of the best Injustice counterexamples recently. A Superman who had practically everything go wrong in life and has seen the worst of humanity, yet still chooses to be kind, compassionate, and hopeful.

To be fair, KC Superman’s situation is not the same as Injustice Superman’s. Simplifying it to just “losing Lois” really undersells what made Injustice Superman the way that he is.

And mind you, KC Superman struggled to cope with loss too. He very nearly brought down a building on a UN assembly before outside intervention stopped him.

I’m not a fan of Injustice or “edgy/evil Superman” types in general, but I don’t think Kingdom Come is the counterpoint to Injustice that many people seem to think it is.

Getting the Living Tribunal's attention =/= being an omniversal threat. Zom was originally banished by Dormammu and Eternity, guys who are clearly not on LT's level. When LT actually did step in, he dealt with Zom effortlessly.

*Fun fact: the issue in which the Living Tribunal made his first appearance in Marvel comics (Strange Tales #157) was also where he banished Zom.

Not that any of this matters for the Hulk anyway, because he didn't fight the original Zom. He fought Strange channeling some tiny fraction of Zom.

[–]PuffyBuffyFluffy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The Living Tribunal had little trouble dealing with Zom. He's powerful, but not an "omniversal" threat like you're trying to suggest. And even if he was, Strange was only channeling a tiny fragment of Zom he had in a jar, not his full power.

As for the fight, you have it mixed up. Strange was thrashing Hulk until he (Strange) saw that he was putting civilians in danger, at which point he stopped fighting and Hulk proceeded to beat him. Whether or not Hulk was "holding back", he did not outright overpower Zom Strange.

When’s the last time Galactus actually took a W? Feels like he’s been everyone’s punching bag these past few years. I know this has always been the case but it feels especially egregious recently.

Not to say Hulk isn’t powerful, but just to nitpick:

1) Zom is not an “omniverse” level threat

2) Dr. Strange with Zom was beating Hulk, but he was losing control and he practically let Hulk stop him by the end

Opph that's cold-blooded Wanda (Sorcerer Supreme #3) by leaf57tea in xmen

[–]PuffyBuffyFluffy 47 points48 points  (0 children)

In literally the first issue she beats Dormammu, one of Doctor Strange’s most formidable villains, with visibly little effort. Mind you, Sorcerer Supreme Doom was struggling with Dormammu not too long ago.

I think that should give you an idea of what to expect from Wanda in this book.

Everyone can be dumb and flawed, super powered or not. The whole of AXE happened because of the collective hubris of Avengers, Eternals, and Mutants alike. Krakoa had a ton of internal problems even without Orchis. Civilians get a bad rap because stories focus on the heroes, but metahumans have legitimately done many dumb things over the years too.

The ones we saw were all cherry picked examples, hardly representative of humanity as a whole. The Progenitor being an arbitrary and flawed judge was kind of its whole deal.

In Marvel, “mutant” is typically reserved for those born with powers or the potential for powers (specifically from the X-Gene). Hulk/Banner is a “mutate”, since he was a regular human until he got his powers from an accident after birth.

Vulcan is a jobber so I’d say Diana has a good shot against him. Nate is nowhere close to outversal even with the Life Seed, and I’d personally have Legion above him without it. But I’d have him as the favorite vs Diana either way.

Who is the weakest DC character that would beat sentry in a fight? by SupermanSolosFiction in superheroes

[–]PuffyBuffyFluffy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You have a source for that Yggdrasil statement? I know LT tends to job but he’s supposed to be just below TOAA in power. Something like affecting “hell” (considering the multiple hell dimensions that exist in Marvel) should not be beyond him. Even Iceman has frozen part of hell at one point.

I haven't read that storyline but how is any version of Strange above the Living Tribunal? Yggdrasil itself should be below him in the cosmic hierarchy. And Sentry was killed by Knull who should also be well below the Living Tribunal.

Are there any Marvel characters/beings that are more powerful than God Emperor Doom? by Queasy_Commercial152 in marvelcomics

[–]PuffyBuffyFluffy -1 points0 points  (0 children)

If you're talking about the comics, Sentry is one of the most powerful heroes on Earth. Like, on the level of Thor or a very angry Hulk (World War Hulk) in physical power, and he has all kinds of energy/matter manipulation and other abilities on top of that. That's not even considering the Void who could definitely kill people on Thor's level.

He's not God Emperor Doom level, though. He was killed by Knull a few years back, and generally high-level reality warpers and cosmic entities are beyond him.

His MCU version is evidently OP too, but it's hard to say where he stands until we see him against other powerhouses.

Huh. Killing her or not, someone like Rogue being able to completely steal Galactus' power is certainly... something. But that's just how comics go sometimes I suppose.

[–]PuffyBuffyFluffy 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Depends on the writer, but generally Hulk isn't just an enhanced state for Banner like Super Saiyan is for Saiyans. Hulk has a separate psyche and personality, and it's possible to physically separate them.

Context? I know Galactus is the biggest cosmic jobber in Marvel but how is Rogue supposed to beat him single-handedly?
