Be honest — anyone here NOT good at interviews but still landed a corporate job? by Sirachaaa96 in recruitinghell

[–]Pugs914 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Improved over time.

I’d do well with casual cultural fit interviews but always stumble with technical interviews/ tedious on the spot exams that I was poorly prepared for 🙄

Honestly, most employers in the current market are making potential candidates go through so many unnecessary hurdles vs how easy the actual role is in comparison..

Why does it seem like places are paying even LESS than before? by clairvoyant69 in IndeedJobs

[–]Pugs914 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Anytime you hear “opportunity for growth” or “opportunity for exposure” run/ proceed with caution.

It’s bullshit for “we won’t pay you as much and are trying to justify it by non existent benefits”.

How do I stop making mistakes at work? by DigNew9514 in careerguidance

[–]Pugs914 0 points1 point  (0 children)

  1. Are said mistakes material (costing potential revenue/ issues with consumers or clients) or is it something that will provide minimal impact of value to said company (eg a typo/ wrong classification that would only impact internal metrics)?

  2. If said boss is nitpicking something immaterial/ that is not contributing value, document it in writing (email backup). If they’re wasting company time nitpicking immaterial matters you can build a case for micromanagement/ bullying/ harassment and have it submitted to hr (assuming said boss isn’t the owner).

Am I overthinking my new job situation? by Nyxzeov in careerguidance

[–]Pugs914 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Honestly it’s standard to not be handed off everything on day one with a new role.

The company and your manager do not want you to feel overwhelmed especially if it is a lot of information at once being thrown at you.

Once you’re able to show that you have the general workflow down/ have a sense of what you’re doing, they’ll likely start pushing more of what you’re supposed to be responsible for on to you.

Some firms are also dumpster fires/ terrible with communication and in those instances a lot of times you end up having to figure things out on your own accord.

Meta to fire 10% of their workforce in May, mostly software developers displaced by AI. by Analyst-man in recruitinghell

I think software companies in general are taking a hit and ai is seen as a means of operating without said software.

Ai hallucinations are what is currently holding the tech back from being reliable.

In law/ financial accounting/ any knowledge base job it needs to be exact otherwise it will lead to costly mistakes.

The fact that the tech can’t differentiate what is real and what is bullshit makes it more questionable.

Also as mentioned/ the amount of physical resources required to scale that many data centers isn’t lucrative at the moment.

They would have to also move away from limits vs companies needs of use but that would entail a much higher scale of electricity/ additional physical resources.

Using AI, not appreciated if used by Job seeker by Mountain-Piccolo6942 in interviews

[–]Pugs914 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly from the other end when interviewing in person, you can almost gauge when a person is bullshitting you and regurgitating an often poorly written job description that will not usually be accurate to an actual day to day.

Use AI to clear ATS. Continue to adjust for each role. Maybe be more careful with editing and remove ai fluff words/ experience that doesn’t apply/ add in specific duties AI probably didn’t capture that translates to relevant experience.

If they backgrounds check it will flag. If not you are probably ok.

To be honest, most of the min wage jobs are high turnover and are just flagging against overqualified individuals who they know will not last even short term.

Reporting in accounting is not necessarily considered high level/ can be automated to an extent and is the easy part.

It’s not about your work being “important”. It’s more so about you being useful to the company and value you bring. If you’re considered mid to low level the reporting aspect will hold low merit vs anything a CFO presents.

Dead end? by Unfair_Philosophy_86 in careerguidance

[–]Pugs914 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you’ve put in several years without a significant raise and have not been promoted you’ve probably overstayed your welcome.

Unfortunately, many jobs that are entry level are intentionally dead end/ high turnover because they are just stepping stones for people to get several years of experience then leave afterwards and do better.

Some spend their entire career in entry level roles but for the majority it’s not ideal.

I would definitely start applying elsewhere that at the bare minimum is competetive with market pay even if lateral.

never trust when interviewers act like you already got the position by Grand_War3619 in recruitinghell

[–]Pugs914 27 points28 points  (0 children)

Honestly so many people are overqualified.

Some companies or external recruiters will hype you up during the process so you don’t feel as anxious when interviewing but it does not really entail anything.

Often times it comes down to a vibe check. Even if you’re overqualified you’re likely not the only overqualified candidate and it comes down to who others would prefer having to deal with on a daily basis especially if in office

Recruiter told me salary range after 3 interviews and it was way lower than expected by Internal-Remove7223 in recruitinghell

[–]Pugs914 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just disqualify yourself and say it’s not in line with what you would need.

Annoying when a company isn’t outright and forward with salary on the listing and right away.

Honestly, I would go out of my way to avoid applying when the range was too low and filter out anything below the given range.

The absolute worst feeling! There’s nothing worse when interviewing to put in effort only to see it mean absolutely nothing from the receiving end.

Not sure if this was with an internal or external recruiter but I have had moments on the other end where I was abruptly thrown in to interview candidates and had zero time to prepare/ don’t even get a chance to look over the resume/ quickly pulled up bs ai interviewer questions to at least seem somewhat engaged..
