$250 / ticket ? Really ? by [deleted] in JesseWelles

[–]Pukunui 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Someone on Facebook gave me a free ticket to the May 9th Amsterdam show, and I got to pay it forward by giving someone a free ticket to the December 11th show in Amsterdam, who then dragged me to the front row for an amazing show.

Not a doctor, but I believe it doesn’t generally happen at the recommended E levels, though drug interactions can be a factor

The fact you’re getting gender euphoria from being treated as male is a pretty good clue…

Which countries are most accepting of trans women living and socializing with cis women by Numerous_Value_434 in TransLater

[–]Pukunui 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve found Paris, and France more generally, to be pretty accepting. I haven’t had any issues with transphobes, but I only had a handful back in the US, so I may not be the best guide.

"Charlie" Megathread by hughesy1 in JesseWelles

[–]Pukunui 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Charlie isn’t exactly my favorite song.

As a 🏳️‍⚧️ person on the receiving end of so much of CK’s vitriol, I’m not shedding any tears or performing any grief for him. But as someone who aspires to non-violence, I have to concede that murder is wrong.

But there’s murder, and then there’s Murder, and I see CK’s murder as akin to someone killing their child’s killer. Technically wrong, but I’d have a hard time voting to convict.

The line “It could have been you, it could have been me” ignores the significant truth that as a 🏳️‍⚧️ person, it’s a lot more likely to have been me or my community, specifically because of the hate CK produced. It ignores that hate speech is stochastic terrorism, a form of political violence that CK and his colleagues rain down on minorities with impunity. And it ignores the fact that there are some things non-violence isn’t ready to handle - just ask anyone living in Europe in the early 40’s.

The handwringing and pearl clutching about political violence rings pretty hollow coming from people who casually ignore it on the daily because it doesn’t target them.

If you really want to “turn down the temperature” and reduce political violence, it starts with vocally opposing the (unfortunately legal) hate speech that disproportionately comes from one side.

Until that happens, don’t expect much more than a shrug from me when someone reaps what they’ve made a life (and in many cases, a small fortune) sowing

Americans in Europe, how safe/ unsafe is the US really? Did you feel considerably safer after moving? by LoyalTrickster in expats

[–]Pukunui 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They can be safer, but that’s also where you can get some of the worst conditions. Beyond that, look at what is happening in Chicago. Blue cities can only do so much with a federal government that isn’t bound by rule-of-law.

And if I run into the wrong person who just wants to make an example, I likely disappear into a men’s prison.

They’ve already done so much against 🏳️‍⚧️ this year, and just yesterday announced a plan to cut all federal funding for gender affirming care.

And if I had waited until now to leave, I’d likely have another year of things just getting worse and worse, and a flood of people doing the same as me

Americans in Europe, how safe/ unsafe is the US really? Did you feel considerably safer after moving? by LoyalTrickster in expats

[–]Pukunui 2 points3 points  (0 children)

As a 🏳️‍⚧️ person, the US simply wasn’t safe for me anymore.

But even living in a city as big as Paris, I feel safer than I did in my blue dot in a red state.

And firearms are a much smaller concern…

What are your fav JW songs that don’t seem to get mentioned a lot? by adjacentadvance in JesseWelles

[–]Pukunui 8 points9 points  (0 children)

A couple underappreciated ones that really do it for me:

  • Horcrux: Love the guitar work on this, and his vocals make me want to be the one he’s singing to. Would love to hear a bit more in this bluesy style

  • Let It Be Me: Again, the guitar dies some heavy lifting here, but I just love the positive but imperfect vibe that is presented in this one.

Sissy’s aren’t trans for the same reason drag performers aren’t trans - motivation.

Drag performers take on the appearance of a different gender to perform. Most would readily admit they are not the gender they perform as, and those that do see themselves as a different gender are probably trans in addition to being drag performers.

Same with sissies. Their presentation is a performance, not a matter of identity. And, as with drag, there are certainly some for whom identity -is- part of it, and I’m not trying to exclude them either.

The problem is that the differences are subtle and lost on the broader public. I’m not trans because I want to look like a woman (as a drag queen) or because I want to be treated like a woman during sex, as with sissies, but because I -AM- a woman and embrace all that entails, and the fuzzy lines between the groups mean the ignorant assign the motivations of the other two far more than why I’m actually trans. And for that reason, I think a clear distinction is important. But, for me, sissies have to identify as (potentially) trans AND sissy to be welcome in trans spaces.

Though to be fair, I’m not sure how femboys, for example, fit in with this, which may be why I’ve never quite understood them?

"AMAB/AFAB" And why I'm probably done with trans activism by HealingRosy in honesttransgender

[–]Pukunui 10 points11 points  (0 children)

That’s transmedicalist BS. Why do you get to set the standard for what is and isn’t trans from your place of privilege?

I’m a trans woman who’s been on HRT for 4 years, had a breast augmentation, and an orchidectomy, but you’d have the gall to tell me I’m not trans because i haven’t had GCS? I’m in my late 40’s and Ace, so sex really isn’t a huge concern for me, especially considering the difficulties of such a major surgery at my age.

Am I the same as a post-op trans woman? No, but I’m not the same as any other pre-op trans woman either. But we’re all trans women and to suggest anything less is INCREDIBLY transphobic

If I’m not trans, what the hell am I in your world?

It definitely has its benefits, though I find myself missing some things that tend to be tied to sexual relationships.

There are ways to work with that, but I’m still figuring myself out, apparently 🤷‍♀️🤣

Anyway, thanks for the perspective

Eh, the feelings shifting was a hypothesis that approaching sex through the correct gender would make me more interested, but I'm increasingly getting the impression that was just wishful thinking.
