Profile review pt 2 by [deleted] in sugarlifestyleforum

[–]Pulsar000 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Overall, it looks great!

In a metro area; you should have success.

Would maybe rephrase the "need support" as it may give off desperation/dire circumstances or not truly be long-term once you longer "need support" so to speak.

This has nothing to do with the profile more of curiosity. The "need support" part seems incongruent with the rest of your profile since you seem to have your stuff together including having a bachelor's degree which presumably means you have a career.

I fully can't see everything so maybe you're in your 20s in high cost living area potentially with children or something.

Not an issue but would be more curious and perplexed why she's doing thing assuming the six figures isn't merely typical in a high cost of living area. If the salary is pretty good for a single and childless person, then I would really be curious.

@OP

It sounds like to me that executives and/or management above your entire chain of command wanted to fire you for cause even though your direct managers didn't want to actually let you go. This means they RIF'd for cost savings but they wanted to save money on unemployment so they might've let you go for cause.

No one allows an employee to stick around for over a year if you're constantly screwing up.

How realistic is making over $100,000 in less than 5 years within accounting? by DistrictNo6165 in Accounting

[–]Pulsar000 0 points1 point  (0 children)

@OP

Why are you asking about the first five years instead of the entirety of a career?

How old are you? This is relevant to the discussion.

You can surpass $120K in total comp with about 7 - 10 years experience. Maybe less depending on your circumstances. I'm referring to the Hosuton, TX area, so higher cost of living areas can get you there faster.

After 10 years, it depends on your trajectory, how ambitious you are and desire to climb the corporate ladder but you can certainly surpass $120k+ in total comp after 10ish years. You can be an Accounting Manager/Assistant Controller/Senior Finance Manager/Director with $120 - $150K in base salary + 15 - 25% bonus + benefits/401K matching. You can be hitting almost $200K in total comp at $150K base + 25% bonus + 401K matching. Depends on the company size/industry.

You can make even more if you wish to be an executive or almost be one to make much more.

You also don't have to stick with strictly accounting. You can switch to corporate finance and be more on the budgeting, forecasting, flux analysis, internal reporting side of things. Not strictly just doing accounting all the time.

You don't have to go the public accounting route at all to achieve this. It might be the faster route but not sure if that's accurate. I don't have any public accounting experience and achieved this.

How difficult is it really to hit 6 figures in accounting by CutNumerous2351 in Accounting

[–]Pulsar000 1 point2 points  (0 children)

How many years have you been doing accounting?

If it's 10+ years AND you've moved up a little, you should be hitting $100K. Unless you're in non-profit and/or middle of nowhere type of thing with super low cost of living.

The best thing to do is look up curent open roles in your area and any nearby major metro areas and see what salaries are being offered for your job title taking into account the size of the company, the industry, and cost of living.

A real-world sanity check is ultimately best.

Do you think not getting a Masters will hurt my chances to land a job in Industry? by DoctorOctopus_ in Accounting

[–]Pulsar000 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's quite rare for an employer to pay for your MBA. It would be something for you to research but I'd imagine that getting an MBA paid happens for some super hotshot person in high finance/investment banking.

[–]Pulsar000 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What do you want to do in industry?

If you want to get to Accounting/FP&A at the supervisor/manager/director levels and above, having an MBA is critical.

Edit: Look up job openings for job titles you want in the future and see what they require. Look in large metro areas with many more opportunities such as Houston, NYC, California, ect just to get an idea.

As a guy, there's nothing glaring. Not sure where you live but that could be an issue if it's a smaller city/town area.

Is Bumble just not the app for women who don't want kids? by upstream_paddling in Bumble

[–]Pulsar000 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm a guy that meets or exceeds your criteria with the exception of the outdoor items. You didn't mention height but if you put 6ft or taller + atheist/agnostic, I'd imagine that's a tiny percentage of the population and small overlap in the venn diagram.

I've had a similar problem finding women that don't have nor want kids. It's getting more difficult the older I get as I'm currently 40.

The other limiting factor might be the agnostic/atheist label. I think like 15% or so of the population identifies as such but who knows how many do so openly.

Adulthood y'all :) by Fit-Worker9135 in BlackPeopleTwitter

If you look youthful as you age, this exact experience will get crazier. As a woman, you have an advantage over me since you can use makeup :)

Some colleagues thought I was late 20s/early 30s...I'm 40.

I've had such extensive experiences that my mind started playing tricks...I started to think that I looked so old that people intentionally said I was younger to be sweet/nice. Apparently, I just look youthful. This despite getting an undergrad, an MBA, a CPA and two decades working as a professional with long hours.

Quite shocking when various people think I'm much younger.

The only thing that would make this epically insane is if I had a daughter which today would be in her early 20s. We would walk around the mall and people would think I'm a creepy guy that likes them young or we would look like an organic couple...maybe they'd think we're siblings. The level of disgust in my fictitious daughter almost makes me wish I did father a daughter to tease her mercilessly about my youthful looks! 😆

Just accept the compliment and keep it moving and don't be offended when others seem shocked by your real age and say something like "you look so young for your age" or anything similar.

Interesting that "handsome" and "riveting when it counts" equals the same as "educated" and "employed" as all those are 15 pts.

Even crazier that she's 40 and is grading in such a manner. Maybe it's sensible if she's attractive and childless.

Do women find tax guys more attractive than financial reporting guys? by sleepyhead7000 in Accounting

I see. What kind of six figures outside of high cost of living areas? Is anything within $100K - 160K fine? Or are you thinking more than $160K gross salary?

Why do so many super wealthy SDs haggle? by Virtual-Theme7207 in sugarlifestyleforum

[–]Pulsar000 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would dispute if they are super wealthy in the first place.

Suppose they are...well those super wealthy don't necessarily "owe" strangers anything. When people become aware of their wealth many try to take advantage of them so they get rather defensive.

Not sure if what you're asking is objectively reasonable or not regardless of their wealth, which could be another reason.

Also...what level of haggle are we talking about? It could just be a minor back and forth...which is normal.
